Coldplay's Shocking Hit Reaches New Peaks On Five Billboard Charts At Once

Forbes2 days ago
For the past several months, Coldplay's song 'Sparks' has been rising on charts everywhere. The tune, which was originally released decades ago as an album cut, became one of the rare largely-overlooked cuts from the past that goes viral on TikTok and finds its way to meaningful rankings as both sales and streams exploded.
This week, in particular, is especially huge for 'Sparks,' as it doesn't just reach a new high point – it does so on multiple tallies published by Billboard.
'Sparks' Soars to New Highs in America
'Sparks' hits never-before-seen highs on three United States-based rankings. The track jumps to No. 7 on the Hot Rock Songs chart, No. 9 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs tally, and No. 13 on the Rock Streaming Songs roster. Coldplay collects a seventeenth career top 10 smash on the list of the most consumed rock and alternative compositions in America as 'Sparks' leaps from No. 13 to ninth place.
Coldplay on the Global Charts
The same cut also ascends to newly-established peaks on both of Billboard's worldwide rosters. The cut jumps from No. 86 to No. 78 on the Billboard Global 200, and it almost enters the highest half of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. 'Sparks' could easily manage that feat in a few days, but for the moment it settles at No. 104, up 15 spaces from where it sat last frame.
'Sparks' Keeps on the Hot 100
Last week, 'Sparks' hit No. 79 on the Hot 100, and this time around, it keeps in that position, which marks its best showing on the ranking of the biggest songs in America. Even though 'Sparks' was released decades ago, it has only spent four frames on the competitive roster, two of which have been at its all-time peak.
Coldplay's Surprise Hit Lives on Multiple Lists
The same tune, which has still not technically been promoted as a single, can be found on both the Hot Alternative Songs and Alternative Streaming Songs charts. This frame, 'Sparks' keeps at No. 8 — its more impressive placement — on the Hot Alternative Songs roster, and it slips outside the highest tier on the Alternative Streaming Songs ranking, descending from No. 10 to No. 11 after once rising to No. 9.
'Yellow,' 'Something Just Like This' and 'A Sky Full of Stars'
Coldplay fills half a dozen spaces on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S., and amazingly, 'Sparks' isn't even the group's most notable appearance, even though it reaches new highs. 'Yellow' lives inside the upper quarter of the 200-spot rankings, while 'Viva La Vida,' 'The Scientist,' 'Something Just Like This' with The Chainsmokers, and 'A Sky Full of Stars' decline on the two tallies.

This Mom's Viral Take on the ‘Window of Enjoyment' for Kids Is a Bittersweet Reminder

Not enjoying every stressful, exhausting, repetitive, challenging moment of your kids' lives? It may be because you haven't reached the 'window of enjoyment' yet — or you already passed it. One mom went viral for her take on the most enjoyable years of parenting, and it's a bittersweet reminder to savor everything before it's gone in a blink of an eye. 'There's one window of enjoyment with kids,' mom Nicole Collings (@nicoleisthisme) said on TikTok, per Newsweek. This sweet spot is between the ages of 5 and 11. More from SheKnows Skechers Is Helping Parents Keep Track of Their Kids in a Discreet Way - & as a Mom of 3, I'm on Board 'The baby stage? Hard — cute, but hard,' she said in the video. 'Once they get on the move — impossible. Especially when you've got more than one,' Collings, who had three babies under age 2 who are now ages 13 and 15, added. But as they grow up (just a little bit!), things start getting better. '3 they start to get a little bit easier, but 4 and 5 is when it starts to lift' and parents can 'see the light at the end of the tunnel. It lasts until they become teenagers. 'All of a sudden, when they turn 11 or 12, the magic leaves,' Collings said. 'Father Christmas f—s off, the tooth fairy f—s off. Disney? Forget about that. All the magic from their childhood goes like that,' she added with a snap. 'All those cute little days out that you used to have at theme parks, the farm, the park, picnics? Gone. Forget it. Absolutely gone. That is replaced with being a constant taxi driver and an ATM machine,' Collings continued. You are no longer the fun mom who builds tents and watches Disney movies with; instead, you are 'a complete embarrassment' who 'cannot be seen out in public,' in your kids' eyes. As a mom of two kids in that magical age (and one who will catch up to his older brothers soon!), this take is so scary to me. I don't want to imagine a world when my kids don't hug me goodnight and beg for one more story or ask me to take them to see the latest movie in the theaters. I love spending time with my kids — but I am also equally glad that they went back to school, and it's not on me to entertain them every single minute of the day. Do I feel guilty for not enjoying more moments with my kids? Yes, of course I do. What mom doesn't feel like she isn't doing enough or having enough bonding time? But at the same time, I am still in the trenches with a 3-year-old, 6-year-old, and 7-year-old. They need me constantly — and the fighting, screaming, and whining gets old fast. It's a physically exhausting and mentally draining time to be a parent, and I shouldn't feel bad for enjoying and valuing my alone time either. Still, I do love how they are already excitedly planning their Halloween costumes and the magic of Christmas and how happy they get from the littlest things, like ice cream cones after school or goodie bags at birthday parties. It's truly so wonderful, and I'm going to try my hardest to really appreciate every moment (even the hard ones). Because I know I will miss it one day when my house isn't cluttered with toys, and I don't hear the sound of running feet down the hall at 6 a.m. Collings spoke with Newsweek about her 'window of enjoyment' idea, sharing how she realized it one day when they were raiding the kitchen and chatting on FaceTime. 'I realized how different things were compared to when they were younger,' she told the outlet. 'It made me reflect on those magical early years.' 'I used to go all out for Christmas, Easter and Halloween, transforming our home into a wonderland,' she said. 'Seeing my children's faces light up with excitement was incredibly rewarding. … They became less engaged in family activities and more focused on friends. The bedtime stories and cozy movie nights faded away, and I felt like the magic had slipped through my fingers.' 'Don't wish it away,' she added. 'Embrace the messiness of toys and a chaotic house because, before you know it, those toys will be replaced by iPads and iPhones, and you might find yourself missing the noise and chaos.' Other moms can relate. One mom commented on Collings' video, 'Ages 5-10 are magical. They're capable of walking for miles on their own. They don't need a giant diaper bag of stuff anymore. And they're up for ANYTHING.' 'Am crying listening to this why does it have to end,' someone else wrote. One person commented, 'My boys are 8 and 9 and they are incredible. This is scaring me.' (Trust me, I'm just as emotional and scared as you are!) 'You've hit the nail on the head, my eldest is 13,' another wrote. 'We're currently on holiday and constantly been called cringe, embarrassing and been told this is the worse holiday ever.' Still others shared something to look forward to: 'I agree and then age 23, they become your friend.' Just hold onto that for days when you need a little extra hope! Of course, moms can enjoy their kids more with supportive partners who ensure they actually get a break from parenting duties. Because while it's good to remember to enjoy this stage of life, it's not good to take on more stress and mom guilt. Despite what the internet might have you believe, no one can enjoy motherhood 100 percent of the time. The takeaway? Try to find moments in the chaos to enjoy your kids at whatever age they are, because it all goes way too fast. These celebrity parents have admitted to . The Spinners' ‘Pick of the Litter' Turns 50

The start of album-oriented romantic soul can be traced to May 1968, when the Delfonics released 'La La Means I Love You.' Inspired by the earlier cooing ballad style of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, Barbara Lynn, Baby Washington and Little Anthony, the LP ushered in a new Philadelphia music movement marked by vocals that expressed true love, sincerity and respect for one's romantic partner. The rise of black-owned FM radio stations playing R&B gave the genre momentum. On the other end of the timeline, one of the last landmark albums in this genre before the onset of disco was the Spinners' 'Pick of the Litter,' released 50 years ago this month. The record became the vocal group's highest-charting LP on the Billboard 200, peaking at No. 8, and it climbed to No. 2 on the soul album chart. The album's single 'They Just Can't Stop It (Games People Play)' reached No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the soul chart.
