Our review of the season part two: The emotions

BBC News28-05-2025

Emotionally, the 2024-25 season has been a rollercoaster. Having lost star striker Dominic Solanke to Tottenham mere days before the start of the season, few foresaw Andoni Iraola's side picking up even more points, and scoring more goals, than in the Spaniard's debut campaign in 2023-24. The Cherries even unearthed their own galactico in teenage defender Dean Huijsen, rapidly elevated to the Spain national team before a £50m move to Real Madrid beckoned. It was a season of outrageous late comebacks, befitting a team who scored more goals in stoppage time after the 90th minute (nine) than any other. The gung-ho late smash-and-grab at Ipswich. Evanilson's 96th-minute equaliser at Villa Park with the last kick of the game, denying Villa two (retrospectively) priceless points. And the unbelievable heist at Goodison Park, trailing 2-0 going into the 87th minute and coming away with a 3-2 victory to surely win Bournemouth the Premier League's 'Most Improbable Comeback' award for the third successive year.Dragons were slain. The previously unconquerable Manchester City were finally beaten as the sides met for the 21st time in league football. Arsenal were beheaded twice, both at Vitality Stadium and in a maiden victory at Emirates Stadium. Manchester United were routed 3-0 at Old Trafford for the second successive season. Indeed, the Cherries were only beaten by more than the odd goal three times all season – two of which were to champions Liverpool. Then there were the hat-tricks...Read below for the final part

Action needed after Leicester City crash, says coroner

Part makers may not receive all the detailed flight and system test data from manufacturers, so they cannot fully check if they are safe, the coroner Mason said concerns were raised about the lack of clear rules on how long some important helicopter parts should last and how they should be inspected, especially for aircraft already in coroner wrote of worries that helicopter makers are not currently required by regulations to thoroughly check critical parts after removal from service, which could help catch problems highlighted concerns raised during the inquest about the lack of clear rules for calculating stresses on key helicopter parts and the need for better standards to ensure ongoing report pointed to "failure modes analysis at a system level".The coroner wrote: "In my opinion, action should be taken to prevent future deaths, and I believe that each of EASA and the CAA have power to take such action."On October 27 2018, after a match between Leicester City and West Ham, the Leonardo AW169 helicopter spun out of control after it took off from the helicopter began to spin when Mr Swaffer tried to do a right-hand turn over the stadium to take Khun Vichai and the other passengers to Stansted Airport, an inquest jury previously Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) report found that the helicopter began uncontrollably spinning when a bearing in the tail rotor "seized" after its lubrication broke down, jurors were aircraft landed on its left-hand side on a 1.6ft (0.5m) concrete step, causing a fuel leak which ignited and "rapidly" engulfed the helicopter in jury of 11 people, who heard evidence over two weeks, concluded that the deaths were of the five victims, including Khun Vichai, died due to smoke inhalation and it was likely they would have survived their injuries if the fire had not started, it was cause of Ms Lechowicz's death was given as "significant" head and chest injuries, and she would have died "extremely quickly" after the helicopter crashed into the ground.

Rasmus Hojlund 'must be shaking in his pants' after teammate 'overtakes' him in Danish national team

Danish media have claimed that Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund 'must be shaking in his pants' after being overtaken in the pecking order for the Danish national team. A report from Bold made the claim on Tuesday night after Denmark eased to 5-0 win in their friendly against Lithuania. That saw Hojlund benched for Monaco strike Mika Biereth, formerly of Arsenal, after he enjoyed an impressive season as he scored 13 goals in 16 appearances in Ligue 1. Biereth opened the scoring after just 12 minutes to give his side the lead while also drawing a red card as he was fouled by Edgaras Utkus. The Danish outlet described Biereth as being 'venomous' inside the box - while adding that 'Højlund must be shaking his pants by now. He has been overtaken.' That assessment of Hojlund's status in the national team came after he endured a disappointing second season in a Manchester United shirt. That came after he endured a tough second campaign for Manchester United He scored just ten goals in 49 appearances across all competitions, with just four of those coming in the Premier League. That has seen him linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Ruben Amorim increasingly going to Joshua Zirkzee as his preferred option up front. That saw the Dane give an update on his future amid talk of a possible summer transfer to Inter Milan. The Italian side - who were thumped 5-0 by PSG in the Champions League final - have made further contact with Red Devils about a permanent move for the striker. Speaking after Denmark's previously friendly, a 2-1 win over Northern Ireland on Saturday night, he told TV 2 Sport: 'I have a contract [until 2028], so I expect to play for Manchester United. 'I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway. 'I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United. 'I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season.' His comments came after United are said to be keen on signing another forward. As a result, they are set to listen to suitable offers for Hojlund, who cost United £64million plus a further £8m in potential add-ons when he made the move from Atalanta back in August 2023.

Meg Nicholls ‘bags a belter' for dad Paul in £280,000 spending spree as father-daughter duo smash the sales

MEG Nicholls helped dad Paul 'bag a beauty' as the father-daughter duo went on a huge £280,000 spending spree at the sales. Sun Racing told you that legendary 14-time champion trainer Paul is enabling the help of Meg at the auctions this year. 1 The pair hit up the Goffs Arkle sale in Ireland on Tuesday and got the cheque book out in style - snapping up three hugely promising sorts. The pick of the bunch was a £130,000 gelding by champion jumps sire Walk In The Park, whose mum Lackaneen Leader was placed in a Grade 1. Meg, who combines her role as an ITV pundit with sourcing top talent, said: "I'm absolutely delighted to get him. "We got our three top picks, and thought we might have had to stretch a bit more for the Walk In The Park. "Dad actually loved him from the moment he came out of his box. "His eyes lit up really, the horse had that bit of class about him. "He's really athletic, and we can't wait to get him back and get him going. "We knew he would make this sort of money – he really is classy, he had that swagger about him, and he's by the right sire. "We've been fighting hard against some big stables and as I have got older I've found it easier to work alongside Dad! "To get some pretty smart horses at what we valued them at - I'm delighted. Now we need to find the right owners for them." The pair also bought £78,000 L'Ami Pierrot, who is related to Nicky Henderson's former multiple Grade 1 winner L'Ami Serge. Being by Nirvana Du Berlais, he also shares a sire with Lulamba, so expect him to be a speedy sort capable over hurdles. The Nicholls also went to £75,000 for an unnamed gelding by Vadamos, whose progeny include Grade 3 winner The Other Mozzie and Grade 1-placed runners such as Matata and King Of Kingsfield. Nicholls told Sun Racing he will continue to work with long-time sales ally Tom Malone. But he thought it would be beneficial having another set of eyes helping him too, hence the decision to bring in Meg. He said: "I've been hearing all sorts of rumours, Tom and I are good mates but there has never been any contract between us. "He's a freelance and he buys plenty for me, so do several others. "I'm going to work with everybody, but Megan is going to get quite a bit more involved for me. "Results could have gone better over the last few years but that's the way things are, it's very hard buying these days. "I'll keep all avenues open, but more so than ever I'd like to get Megan much more involved on that front."
