
Spray pads now open in Winnipeg as warm weather continues

The city's spray pads are open again for another year.
Saturday marked the first day of spray pads being operational around Winnipeg.
The majority of spray pads will be in operation every day from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. until September.
Winnipeggers will need the weather to warm up a little bit more before the outdoor pools open.
The city said heated outdoor pools are expected to open on June 20 and then unheated pools would open on June 27.
Wading pools would open shortly after on July 1.

Wildfire prompts evacuation order for Winefred Lake near Conklin

The order was issued at 3:18 p.m. for southern Winefred Lake and Grist Lake. Everyone in the area was told to leave immediately. Anyone needing more information can call 780-623-6767. Winefred Lake is 35 kilometres southeast of Conklin. The Caribou Lake wildfire, which prompted the evacuation, was burning alongside the west shore of the Lake and covered 62,768 hectares at the time of the order. That fire was caused by human activity, according to the Alberta Wildfire dashboard, and started on May 26 in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range. Wildfire danger was 'extreme' across the Lac la Biche and neighbouring Wood Buffalo forest protection areas, due to hot, dry, windy conditions. A wildfire alert was issued for Conklin on May 29 due to the risk that the fire could spread toward that community. That alert remained in effect Wednesday, with the fire burning 17 kilometres southeast of the community.

Thunderstorm warning issued for southwest Simcoe, Dufferin counties
A line of powerful thunderstorms roll into Barrie, on Sun. July 19, 2020 (Lexy Benedict/CTV News -- FILE IMAGE) Communities in the southwestern part of Simcoe County and across Dufferin County are under a thunderstorm warning for Wednesday evening. According to Environment Canada, meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts. The weather agency states that the storms are spanning from Shelburne to Grand Valley and moving east at 70 kilometres per hour. The areas that could be impacted span as far southwest as the towns of Orangeville and Caledon and as far northeast as Innisfil. Environmental Canada adds that local utility outages are likely, as well as damage to roofs, fences, soft shelters or trees. Residents are urged to take immediate cover if a thunderstorm approaches and to seek protection from flying debris and hail.

Snow Lake under mandatory evacuation order due to wildfire

Snow Lake has been shifted from a voluntary evacuation to a mandatory evacuation according to the province's latest fire bulletin. Snow Lake is impacted by the fire burning near Sherridon that is 112,185 hectares in size and out of control. The community has a population of over 1,000 people, according to the latest data from 2021. There are currently 27 active wildfires in Manitoba, and there have been 111 in 2025.
