Everything you need to know about attending the Army's 250th birthday celebration

Yahooa day ago

On June 14, 1775, the Continental Army was formed to fight for American independence. After the successful revolution, the Continental Army became the United States Army and has continued to serve the nation in its mission with the same motto: 'This We'll Defend.'
To celebrate the Army's 250th birthday, as well as the service and sacrifice of its soldiers, a celebration will be held in Washington, D.C. on June 14, 2025.
At 8:15 a.m., a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery to commemorate the anniversary. On the National Mall, the Fitness Competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. and conclude with awards presented by 12:30 p.m. During the Fitness Competition, the Army Birthday Festival, located near the Washington Monument on the National Mall, will open at 11:00 a.m.
The festival is free and open to the public, but online registration will enable attendees to proceed through security more quickly. Security gates will be located at 7th Street. Visitors are encouraged to use the Metro, street parking, or public parking garages. The north entrance of the Smithsonian Metro Station will be closed.
In front of the Smithsonian Castle, Army equipment and interactive exhibits will be on display. Visitors will be able to check out some of the latest Army tech, including night vision goggles, drones, and the Next Generation Squad Weapon. The Army also plans to showcase the new MV-75 tiltrotor aircraft, which is slated to replace the UH-60 Black Hawk.
A total of 56 booths will be at the festival, where attendees can receive free giveaways and meet soldiers. On the east end of the festival will be the NFL Kids Zone. This will feature climbing walls, face painting, photo booths, and the opportunity to meet NFL players. Food trucks will also be located to the east. The festival will end at 6:00 p.m. ahead of the parade.
At 6:30 p.m., the Army's 250th Birthday Parade along Constitution Avenue NW will begin on 23rd Street NW. It will be easiest for visitors to walk from the festival to the parade viewing area. Featured in the parade will be Army mainstays like the M1A2 Abrams tank and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle, along with newer vehicles like the Infantry Squad Vehicle. The AH-64 Apache attack helicopter and the CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopter will also participate in the parade.
The parade concludes at 7:30 p.m., and the concert at the Ellipse will begin soon after. Fireworks start at 9:45 p.m. to end the Army's 250th birthday event.

Kendal Calling issue tribute to 'genius' Brian Wilson

Kendal Calling has issued a tribute following the death of The Beach Boys' Brian Wilson. Wilson was the eldest and last surviving of the three musical brothers who formed the American rock band in 1961, alongside their cousin Mike Love and school friend Al Jardine. The Beach Boys performed at the Cumbrian festival in 2017 alongside Stereophonics, Manic Street Preachers and Franz Ferdinand. A spokesperson for Kendal Calling said on Instagram: 'We are very sad to hear the news of Brian Wilson's passing. 'Genius is a term often overused but not in this instance. Undoubtedly one of the greatest songwriters of all time and a master of his craft. 'We had the pleasure of hosting Brian in the Deer Park back in 2017 - it was one of those real 'pinch me' moments getting to see his name on a Kendal Calling poster.'

Awkward! Tom Brady Gets Booed At Indy 500

Tom Brady was welcomed to the Indy 500 by jeers and boos, but the retired NFL star took the icy reception in stride as he greeted participants during a pre-race ceremony. Widely considered the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) by most NFL fans, Brady remains a controversial figure among Indianapolis Colts supporters, who clearly haven't forgotten the longstanding rivalry between the Colts and Brady's former team, the New England Patriots. Advertisement The Colts and Patriots share one of the most intense rivalries in professional football, having faced off in the 2014 AFC Championship Game—an event now infamous for the 'Deflategate' scandal. During that game, Brady was accused of having footballs deflated to make them easier to throw. 5 shots of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce canoodling at Oilers-Panthers

5 shots of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce canoodling at Oilers-Panthers The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers put on an absolute show on Thursday night as the Oilers picked up a much-needed win in the Stanley Cup Final to take Game 4 in dramatic fashion. The reigning champion Panthers tied the game at 4-4 with 19 seconds left in the third period, but would go on to lose in overtime. Among the crowd for the immediate classic was celebrity couple Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. The singer and Kansas City tight end were in Florida to take in the game, and the pair could not have seemed happier throughout the evening. Swift and Kelce have been dating since summer of 2023, and they were seen being affectionate with each other throughout the evening. Cameras caught the 14-time Grammy winner and the 3-time Super Bowl champ canoodling, laughing and overall just enjoying each other's company. Both were thrilled at the exciting finish of the game, and the NHL playoffs are just the latest in the couple's sporty run. Kelce and Swift made it to both tennis and baseball in the last couple years, and Swift has, unsurprisingly, been a mainstay at NFL games as she supports her beau. Kelce will kick off his 13th NFL season this year, so Swift's sports fan era will keep going strong.
