Pirates Preview: Rubber match at Dodger Stadium
In a largely back-and-forth game, the Pittsburgh Pirates were ultimately defeated by the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-4 on Saturday night.
Oneil Cruz drove in three runs but Colin Holderman struggled in the eighth inning in his first game back from the injured list and took the loss for Pittsburgh.

The Pirates (11-17) will try for a series win in a rubber match against the Dodgers (17-10) on Sunday.

Former Wisconsin running back Braelon Allen delivered a strong performance in the New York Jets' preseason loss to the New York Giants on Saturday. Allen took seven carries for 34 yards (4.9 yards per carry) in the 31-12 defeat. Just like in the team's preseason opener against the Green Bay Packers, Allen was more efficient than starter Breece Hall, who rushed for just 26 yards on seven carries. The former Wisconsin great is unlikely to claim the full-time workload when the 2025 season kicks off, both due to Hall's talent as a pass-catcher and his status as a second-round draft selection. But it's hard to ignore Allen's current trajectory. At the least, he is showing enough production and consistency to begin to carve into Hall's workload. None should be surprised if Allen improves on his 92-carry, 334-yard, two-touchdown rookie season in 2024. He is currently a popular pick for a sophomore breakout, especially as the Jets work to establish an identity under new head coach Aaron Glenn. Top Alabama commit, 5-star prospect officially shuts down recruitment
According to a report from Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, a top Alabama Crimson Tide 2026 football commit has officially shut down their recruitment. That commit is Jireh Edwards, who announced Saturday that he would be shutting down his recruitment. Edwards joins others such as Xavier Griffin and Kamhariyan Johnson as Alabama commits to shut down their recruitments. One of the biggest names in Alabama's 2026 class, Edwards is currently considered as the nation's No. 33 overall prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, as well as the No. 3 safety nationally. A five-star recruit, Edwards also ranks as the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland where he attends national powerhouse St. Frances Academy. Edwards has been committed to Alabama since July 2025.
