What we know about MSU basketball's 2025-26 schedule at this point Here's what we know about the Spartans' schedule for next season, which includes a massive home non-conference matchup in December
We are still months away from the official 2025-26 Michigan State basketball schedule coming out but who said we couldn't start piecing together what we already know about next year's slate?
Unlike football, college basketball schedules are typically built in between seasons with only a few pre-planned games from years before included on the docket. Michigan State is no different with most of its non-conference slate still being constructed, but we do at least know of a few monster matchups on the slate for next year.
With that being said, let's dive into what we already know about the 2025-26 Michigan State basketball schedule as we begin to look ahead to next year:
Champions Classic
Opponent: Kentucky
Date: November 18
The annual Champions Classic will continue next year with the Spartans drawing Kentucky in the early season marquee matchup. The Wildcats are widely considered a preseason top 10 team and the Spartans are in the No. 15 - 20 range depending on the media outlet. So this should be a fun early season test for both of these programs that have aspirations of reaching the 2026 Final Four.
Fort Myers Tip-Off
Opponents: North Carolina and to be determined team
Dates: November 25 and 27
The Spartans will take place in a pair of games as part of the Fort Myers Tip-Off event during the week of Thanksgiving. It has already been announced that Michigan State will face North Carolina on Thanksgiving Day, and we are still waiting to see who the Spartans will play in the game before that on Tuesday.
Home vs. Duke
Date: Reportedly sometime in December
The Spartans will play host to the Duke Blue Devils in a non-conference monster matchup from the Breslin Center. This matchup hasn't been formally announced so the date is still to be determined. But Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reported last week that it'll occur in December and will serve as the return trip to East Lansing, Mich. after Duke hosted Michigan State in the Champions Classic during 2020.
Big Ten Regular Season
The official Big Ten schedule will come out over the next few months, but last week we at least got an indication of where Michigan State will play each of its conference games with the official home-road splits announced. Here is an indication of who the Spartans will host at home, play on the road and play both at home and away:
Home Only:
Illinois
Iowa
Maryland
Northwestern
Ohio State
UCLA
USC
Away Only:
Minnesota
Nebraska
Oregon
Penn State
Purdue
Washington
Wisconsin
Home and Away:
Indiana
Michigan
Rutgers
The Big Ten slate includes 20 regular season games and typically begins in December with a few games before the holidays break. My assumption is that will continue again this year, with conference games leading all the way through the first week in March.
Big Ten Tournament
Dates: March 11 - 15
The top 15 teams in the Big Ten qualify for the conference tournament so this is technically not a given that the Spartans will be playing in the event but we can somewhat assume here. The conference tournament will take place at the United Center in Chicago next season.
Other Notes and Thoughts
With what we know now, the Spartans have 24 of the 31 regular season games filled for next year. That means we should expect at least seven more non-conference games to be added to the slate.
In-state foe Oakland is typically on the Spartans' roster so that should be expected again this year. I'm also anticipating the Spartans to add another marquee matchup in non-conference play to go with the three monsters they already have lined up in Kentucky, North Carolina and Duke.
Over the next few months we should get a better indication and reports of who else the Spartans have added to its 2025-26 schedule. But as it stands now, it should have plenty of fun and intriguing games on the slate throughout the season.

Michigan State Legacy Prospect Adam Shaw Decommits From Rival Rutgers and Is Set To Visit the Spartans
Michigan State Legacy Prospect Adam Shaw Decommits From Rival Rutgers and Is Set To Visit the Spartans originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Good news hit the Michigan State coaching staff on Thursday, June 12. A Spartan legacy prospect announced his decommitment from conference rival Rutgers ahead of his official visit in East Lansing. Advertisement After being unable to land 4-star legacy prospects, running back Kory Amachree and offensive tackle Gregory Patrick, things seem to be turning around in Michigan State's favor. Head coach Jonathan Smith mid-practice.© Nick King/Lansing State Journal / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Adam Shaw, son of Spartan offensive tackle Scott Shaw, originally committed to Rutgers on June 1 following his visit. With his decommitment, the 3-star, two-way player is in reach for Michigan State to land. His official visit is scheduled for June 13. As a Spartan, Scott Shaw played under then-head coach Nick Saban and was a first-team All-American in 1997. Following his time with Michigan State, he was drafted in the fifth round by the Miami Dolphins and played two games with the Cincinnati Bengals as a rookie. Advertisement According to 247Sports Composite rankings, Adam Shaw is a No. 21 class of 2026 recruit in his state and a No. 87 linebacker. The legacy prospect is also a quarterback at Pascack Valley High School. Last season, he threw for 1,341 yards and 13 touchdowns alongside his 1,021 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. Now with his decision across 16 schools narrowing down, Michigan State is in great position to land the legacy prospect even after extending a late offer. While the Spartans have rallied together a decent recruitment class of 2026, landing a legacy target will only boost head coach Jonathan Smith's resume considering his recent struggles before official visit season. Michigan State Hopes To Keep 3-Star Recruiting Prospect Khalief Canty at Home
Michigan State Hopes To Keep 3-Star Recruiting Prospect Khalief Canty at Home originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith and his Spartans have only been able to break the top 550 overall in the class of 2026 recruits with No. 260 overall quarterback Kayd Coffman. Offensive lineman Khalief Canty can change that. Advertisement The 6'5, 305-pound lineman from Detroit, Mich. announced on June 11 that he will be announcing his commitment on June 23. Out of the 20 offers Canty received, Michigan State is in the heat of the decision-making alongside Missouri and North Carolina. He visited UNC on April 4 and has visits lined up with the Spartans and Tigers on June 13 and 20, respectively. So far, Michigan State has added 10 class of 2026 recruits to its roster with the defensive side of the ball heating up in terms of commits. Despite finding better footing in recruitment during the official visit season, the Spartans are still falling behind compared to their Big Ten rivals, like No. 1 USC and No. 2 Ohio State. Advertisement The addition of Canty, a 3-star recruit ranked No. 429 overall, would give Michigan State a much needed boost and likely a new starter on the field his freshman year. Michigan State's offense looks on from the sidelineNick King/Lansing State Journal/USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Primary recruiter and offensive line coach Jim Michalczik visited Canty at Cass Technical High School with defensive coordinator Joe Rossi and assistant head coach Keith Bhonapha in hopes of keeping the Michigan native at home. The journey to land Canty started back in December 2022 when a Michigan State offer was first extended. Since then, he visited in the summer of 2024 and has narrowed his 20-offer decision down with the Spartans in mind. When National Signing Day in February rolls around, it would have been a four-year journey to lock down the offensive tackle. Advertisement But the appeal of Michigan State goes beyond the staff. Former running back Jaren Mangham, wide receiver Sebastian brown, and cornerback Kalon Gervin among others played for the Spartans after graduating from Cass Tech. Whether Michigan State will benefit from home advantage will be determined on June 23. Michigan State Football Lands Class of 2026 4-Star Prospect Collin Campbell
Michigan State Football Lands Class of 2026 4-Star Prospect Collin Campbell originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Michigan State football secured a significant commitment on Thursday and they landed their first Class of 2026 four-star prospect in offensive lineman Collin Campbell. Advertisement Campbell will bring a massive body and some massive talent to the trenches for the Spartans -- a 6-foot-7, 280-pound offensive tackle out of Gilbert, Ariz., Campbell is ranked as the third-best player in Arizona and the 34th-best offensive tackle in the nation in 247Sports' composite rankings. A Michigan State player's helmet sits on the sideline© David Reginek-Imagn Images 247Sports recruiting analyst Greg Biggins has given a full evaluation on Campbell, and highlighted athleticism and gritty style of play as positive attributes. "A plus athlete who can really get off the ball and has the kind of nastiness you have to have to excel in the trenches. A finisher who loves to bury his man into the ground and has the athleticism to get out on sweeps and pulls. No issues getting to the second level as a run blocker and shows the athleticism and lateral mobility to slide and mirror as a pass protector," he wrote. Advertisement The commitment comes after Campbell came to East Lansing on an official visit from May 30-June 1 -- Campbell left campus remembering why he began to fall in love with the program upon earlier unofficial visits, and was ready to make his commitment within just a couple of weeks. 'I had high expectations coming in…I needed to go back again and really see how much I liked it. I liked even better than I remembered," Campbell told On3. Michigan State was in competition with multiple other Big 10 programs for Campbell's services, including Washington, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, Northwestern, and UCLA. In the end, Campbell's decision came down to the Huskies and the Spartans, as well as Big 12 program Utah.
