Raja of Perlis: Unity crucial for MADANI society, urges collective effort
KANGAR: Unity among people of different races, religions, and ethnicities is a vital asset and a central pillar in achieving the formation of a MADANI society and nation, which the government is currently pursuing, said the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
His Royal Highness said that since unity is the key to the success and well-being of the people, continuous efforts must be made by all levels of society.
'Everyone must realise their role and responsibility in contributing to the strengthening of unity and values.
'Unity is not the responsibility of a single party. It requires a collective effort from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, community leaders, educational institutions, and every individual. We all have a part to play.
'Let us make our homes, schools, workplaces, and communities' platforms to nurture the spirit of unity and love among people,' His Royal Highness said at the official opening of this year's state-level Unity Week celebration here today.
Gracing the event was Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid.
Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil and Deputy Minister of National Unity, Senator Saraswathy Kandasami were also in attendance.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin stated that the challenges to unity have become increasingly complex, ranging from issues of racism to extremist ideologies, emphasising that initiatives like Unity Week should serve as a platform to strengthen inter-ethnic interaction, broaden community networks, and foster understanding among communities.
'Therefore, I hope that this programme will achieve its goals by ensuring that the element of unity becomes the foundation in every action and interaction, based on mutual respect, cooperation, consensus, and tolerance,' the Ruler said.
Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also urged the people of Perlis, regardless of their background, to continue supporting this noble effort to ensure the continuity of harmony and stability in the state and the nation.

In the Klang Valley, rambutan are priced from RM10-RM12/kg, banana (RM7.50-RM8.50/kg) small pineapple (RM7/kg) and the same apply for watermelon and mangoes,' one netizen summed up for hundreds of online commenters. 'Durian is beyond most people's reach. People buy apples and oranges because they are cheaper than local fruits. 'Please don't insult us with the avocado example. If the government wants us to eat local fruits, please control the prices and not let the businessmen go havoc. 'With the SST on imported fruits, B40 Malaysians won't be able to afford fruits in their diet. The government is making the health of Malaysians worse. This is Reformati, not Reformasi!' Or when will the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) start pursuing the wealth amassed by Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak who was formerly PMX's political secretary? Imagine how detractors just would not spare PMX some breathing space even for a safe topic such as youth empowerment on his own Facebook page. To re-cap, PMX's trust deficit gap has been widening at an alarming pace ever since the run-up to the May 23 PKR central leadership poll whereby his role as the party's president came under massive scrutiny amid cries that the reformasi spirit is dead. The backlash from PKR grassroots was so intense especially after incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli lost the second most powerful post in the party which effectively helmed the Madani government to PMX's eldest daughter Nurul Izzah Anwar with accusation of nepotism reverberating across the party. Student group slams Universiti Malaya over blocked forum, documentary screening on assembly rights
KUALA LUMPUR, June 16 — Student group Mandiri has strongly condemned the actions of Universiti Malaya's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) for blocking a planned documentary screening and forum on assembly rights and the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, which was scheduled to take place on June 15, 2025 at 8pm on campus. In a statement issued today, Mandiri described the move as a blatant violation of academic freedom and freedom of expression, adding that it reflects the increasing restriction of public space under the current Madani administration. 'Security and public order are often used as excuses to silence critical voices, when in fact such discourse is vital in educating students about human rights and civic responsibility,' the group said in a statement. The group has demanded a public explanation from the university's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) regarding the cancellation. It also called for assurances that organisers and participants of the programme would not face any form of pressure or disciplinary action. Additionally, Mandiri urged Universiti Malaya to make a clear commitment to uphold academic freedom within its campus. The group expressed its solidarity with Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia and other students who continue to raise their voices and question authority.
