New logo for Cwmbran Green Meadow Community Farm attraction

The logo will be displayed prominently on a three metre wide and 1.2 metres tall timber welcome sign at the entrance to Green Meadow Community Farm's car park from the Greenforge Way roundabout in Cwmbran.
The logo features an 'animal icon group' of the silhouette of a bull and the outline of a goat against it as well as the smaller silhouette of a pig with a rabbit at the bull's front hoofs.
The writing, in English and Welsh, states 'Croeso i Fferm Gymunedol Green Meadow Community Farm' with Green Medow in large capital letters while a double sided panel will be used as an 'open' and 'closed' sign.
The council's planning department has approved advertising consent for the welcome sign.

The small working farm and visitor attraction has been closed to the public since autumn 2022 when the council agreed to a revamp to make it commercially viable.
It had to redraw those plans on cost grounds however in September 2023 when it also agreed to provide a further £1.6 million towards the project, that is still intended to make the farm self-sufficient as an attraction.
The redevelopment has cost a total of £3.7m and in July the council confirmed the attraction will reopen on Saturday, September 13 with a planned April opening date already missed.
Existing buildings are being refurbished as part of the project which also includes building a new play barn and animal barn and improvements to the entrance while the Haybarn will be an event space for weddings, parties and corporate functions.
The council announced earlier in August it has appointed BaxterStorey as catering provider and operator for the farm including the 90 seat 'The Farmer's Table' restaurant which is in a new oak-beam conservatory.
It will serve locally sourced produce and the restaurant and takeaway will be available without visitors having to pay the farm entry free.
Green Meadow has been a working farm for more than 250 years and enthusiasts who feared it would be would be lost to development saved it in the 1980s.

Watchmaker Swatch apologises for 'slanted eye' ad after online backlash in China

SHANGHAI, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Swiss watchmaker Swatch (UHR.S), opens new tab has issued an apology and pulled ads featuring images of an Asian male model pulling the corners of his eyes up and backwards in a "slanted eye" pose. The images for the Swatch Essentials collection were widely condemned online in China, where many comments said they appeared to mimic racist taunts about Asian eyes. In an apology posted in both Chinese and English on its official account on the Weibo social media platform Saturday, Swatch said that it has "taken note of the recent concerns" and removed all related materials worldwide. "We sincerely apologise for any distress or misunderstanding this may have caused," the statement said. It also posted the same apology on Instagram. Swatch Group did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for further comment. Swatch, which also makes Omega, Longines and Tissot watches, is heavily exposed to China for revenue, with around 27% of the group's sales last year coming from the China, Hong Kong and Macau region. Revenue for the watchmaker last year slumped 14.6% to 6.74 billion Swiss francs ($8.4 billion) in 2024, hit by a downturn in demand in China, where Swatch said it was seeing "persistently difficult market conditions and weak demand for consumer goods overall". New bus fare scheme will make travel more affordable

From September 1, single journeys will cost just £1 for 16 to 21-year-olds who hold a valid mytravelpass. Day tickets will be capped at £3 on participating routes, allowing young people to access unlimited travel. Ken Skates, cabinet secretary for transport and North Wales, said: "This scheme will make a real difference to young people across Wales, and will allow them to make journeys for work, education and leisure at a discounted price. "I would encourage those who don't yet have a mytravelpass to apply so they can take full advantage of the scheme when it begins on 1 September." The mytravelpass is free and must be shown to the driver as proof of age to access the discounted fare. The pilot scheme is funded by £15 million from the Welsh Government over two financial years, as part of a Budget agreement with Welsh Liberal Democrats leader Jane Dodds. An additional £7 million will be invested to expand the scheme to include five to 15-year-olds. This extension will come into effect from November 3.
