25 more OFWs from Israel back in Philippines — DMW
According to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), they arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on July 6.
The repatriation was part of the ongoing effort of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipinos abroad, especially amid the continuing Iran-Israel conflict.
The returning OFWs were welcomed by a whole-of-government team led by Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
"Nag-aalala ang Pangulo sa kalagayan ninyo, pero masaya na siya na nakauwi na kayo. At bilin niya ay mahalagang makarating ang tulong ng gobyerno sa inyo. Kaya ang hiling namin ay gamitin ng wasto ang financial assistance," Cacdac was quoted in a statement as saying.
(The President is worried about your situation, but he's happy now that you're home. He instructed us to make sure government aid reaches you. So we ask that you use the financial assistance wisely.)
The DMW, together with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) headed by Administrator PY Caunan, provided financial aid to the returnees through key programs such as the AKSYON Fund and the Emergency Repatriation Fund.
In addition, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended separate cash assistance.
The repatriated workers also received TESDA training vouchers for skills upgrading, medical checkups, and health referrals from the Department of Health (DOH).
Medical teams from the DOH and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) provided immediate health screenings upon arrival.
"Mabuti na lang po may financial assistance na binigay sa amin, magagamit namin ito sa pagtatayo ng maliit na negosyo," said OFW Nelizza Baldrias from Calaca, Batangas.
(It's a good thing we were given financial assistance; we can use it to start a small business.)
The 25 caregivers are part of the 39th batch of OFWs repatriated from Israel under the Marcos administration's voluntary repatriation initiative. A total of 72 Filipinos have returned from Israel since tensions flared in the region.
Since October 2023, a total of 1,405 Filipino migrant workers have been repatriated under President Marcos Jr.'s directive, as the government continues to prioritize the protection and reintegration of overseas Filipinos. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Israel's military said it targeted and killed Anas Al Sharif, alleging he had headed a Hamas militant cell and was involved in rocket attacks on Israel. Al Jazeera rejected the assertion and before his death, Al Sharif had also rejected earlier claims by Israel that he was connected to Hamas. An entire news crew working for Al Jazeera was killed by Israel on August 10. A sixth journalist, Mohammad Al-Khaldi, a local freelance reporter, was also killed in the airstrike, medics at Al Shifa Hospital said on Monday. Calling Al Sharif "one of Gaza's bravest journalists," Al Jazeera said the attack was a "desperate attempt to silence voices in anticipation of the occupation of Gaza." The other journalists killed were Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, Al Jazeera said. The Hamas-run Gaza government media office said 238 journalists have been killed since the war started on October 7, 2023. The Committee to Protect Journalists said at least 186 journalists have been killed in the Gaza conflict. A press freedom group and a United Nations expert previously warned that Al Sharif's life was in danger due to his reporting from Gaza. UN Special Rapporteur Irene Khan said last month that Israel's claims against him were unsubstantiated. Pre-recorded message Al Jazeera said Al Sharif had left a social media message to be posted in the event of his death that read, ."..I never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or misrepresentation, hoping that God would witness those who remained silent." Last October, Israel's military had named Al Sharif as one of six Gaza journalists it alleged were members of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, citing documents it said showed lists of people who completed training courses and salaries. 'Al Jazeera categorically rejects the Israeli occupation forces' portrayal of our journalists as terrorists and denounces their use of fabricated evidence,' the network said in a statement at the time. The Committee to Protect Journalists, which in July urged the international community to protect Al Sharif, said in a statement that Israel had failed to provide any evidence to back up its allegations against him. 'Israel's pattern of labeling journalists as militants without providing credible evidence raises serious questions about its intent and respect for press freedom,' said Sara Qudah, CPJ's director for the Middle East and North Africa. Al Sharif, whose X account showed more than 500,000 followers, posted on the platform minutes before his death that Israel had been intensely bombarding Gaza City for more than two hours. Palestinian militant group Hamas, which runs Gaza, said the killing may signal the start of an Israeli offensive. "The assassination of journalists and the intimidation of those who remain paves the way for a major crime that the occupation is planning to commit in Gaza City," Hamas said in a statement. PCG At least three senators on Monday maintained that they will continue defending Philippine sovereignty following the recent dangerous maneuvers of a Chinese vessel against a Philippine ship at Bajo de Masinloc or Scarborough (Panatag) Shoal. Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada, chairperson of the Senate committee on national defense and security, peace, unification and reconciliation, condemned the incident, calling on the Chinese Coast Guard to cease and desist from engaging in such acts against the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and other Philippine maritime vessels. 'These tactics not only endanger our maritime personnel and fisherfolk—they also escalate tensions unnecessarily. Nothing good will come of such actions, except the empty display of logistical superiority,' Estrada said in a statement. Earlier in the day, the PCG said a Chinese vessel fired a water cannon at a Philippine vessel during a mission to aid Filipino fishermen in Bajo de Masinloc in the West Philippine Sea on Monday morning. Aside from water cannoning, Chinese vessels also conducted hazardous maneuvers and blocking actions against Philippine vessels that led to a collision between China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 3104 and People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) ship 164. Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva said that the incident 'only shows the peril our troops face in asserting our rightful jurisdiction on our waters.' 'We reiterate to the Chinese Coast Guard and fishing militia: Your continued presence and operation at the West Philippine Sea is illegal and unauthorized. The West Philippine Sea is ours. Get out of Philippine waters!' Villanueva said. Senator Risa Hontiveros, for her part, expressed hope that China would take the incident as a lesson, saying that the collision between their two vessels proves that 'Beijing's own actions are reckless, and endanger their own people.'
