The former world champ made a great start to the year by winning the Players Championship One and Dutch Darts Masters titles.

But the Sussex thrower has been inconsistent since, and he's yet to make a major quarter-final in 2025.
The World No.9 endured a frustrating World Matchplay campaign, crashing out in the first round after a shock 10-8 defeat to Dirk van Duijvenbode.
Four-times major winner Cross concedes he's been struggling with focus and passion at the oche — but says it's time to get serious.
He said: 'The motivation is a problem for me at the minute, you know, obviously I've had time out.

'I played four or five times in seven weeks, and I felt good for the Matchplay actually, I managed to do a bit of practice and stuff.
'Concentration is probably a little bit of an issue there against Dirk, you know, 6-2 up, averaging 108, and then it was like switching the tap off.
'I need to correct that really coming up for the rest of the year from September onwards, but yeah, motivation has got to change.
'I've got to probably pull my finger out and actually put a bit more practice in and get a little bit more keen and more passionate about the game.

'That's darts and if I don't work at it hard enough, I'm not the most naturally talented player out of all of us up there.
'Some people probably won't have to pick a dart up for a month and still come back and be sort of very decent so yeah, I need to put that work in.'

'It was very frustrating not to get a clean sheet,' said Blayney. 'We thought there was a handball in the build-up. 'I still think we did well because no one else in the competition was able to beat them or even get a draw. 'It would have been brilliant to have got that clean sheet against Southampton, especially because my dad used to play there. It would have been fantastic for me.' 'Dad' to Phoenix is Alan, a three-time double winner in his time with Linfield. Although he only played three Premier League games during a five-year stay at Southampton, his debut in May 2004 was arguably the most significant game of his career. A stop from an Alan Shearer header in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Newcastle United won him the Sky Sports Save of the Season award. The fourth of Alan's five Northern Ireland caps was hugely significant, too. While the 1-1 draw with Morocco in November 2010 isn't one that will particularly stick in the mind of the Green and White Army, the day itself does for the Blayney family; it was the day Phoenix was born. Alan had been called up for the match, left the team hotel to be at the birth and ended a whirlwind day by coming on as a half-time substitute for Jonny Tuffey. Given that he came into the world on that particular day, it was probably inevitable that Phoenix would want to follow in his father's footsteps and be a goalkeeper. 'Ever since I was young, I always had his gloves on in the garden messing about,' said Phoenix, who played in the Junior section for County Antrim in 2024 and is still young enough to return to the Premier competition in 2026. 'I always just loved getting dirty and always loved playing. 'I just love getting hurt, getting the ball in the face and getting dirty. Just loved it from the start.' The young Blayney is already catching the eye of Premier League clubs. Standing at almost 6ft at just 14-years-old, he's hard to miss, but having a father who made it to the top means he knows that it takes more than being tall to hit the heights. 'He just plays his own game. He's calm and he just takes everything in his stride. I don't think he feels pressure,' said Alan. 'I just tell him to work hard, have a good attitude and try to enjoy every game. That's really all the advice I give him and then let him do his own thing and then let the football do the talking. 'It would have been good if he'd managed to keep a clean sheet, but I think he had a decent game and, all in all, it was a decent night for them.' From his start messing about in the garden, things are getting serious for Phoenix, and the benefit of Alan's coaching – both are with Larne – as well as his father's advice means he is well-placed for the future. 'My dad is a massive inspiration. I just always wanted to do what he did,' said Phoenix. 'I'm really keen to do it. I would really, really love to sign across the water and keep football going.'

Chelsea sign 19-year-old Netherlands defender Jorrel Hato from Ajax
The 19-year-old, who has been capped six times by his country, has signed a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge. He becomes the Blues' eighth signing of the summer transfer window. Man Utd and Newcastle on alert after club drop Benjamin Sesko interest
Manchester United and Newcastle's battle to sign Benjamin Sesko has taken a twist after a third club pulled out of the transfer race for the striker. Sesko has emerged as a top target for both Premier League teams, with RB Leipzig rejecting a £70million offer from the Magpies over the weekend. It is said Leipzig were happy with the overall sum of Newcastle's bid but not the payment structure, while United are reportedly 'ready to match' their rival's offer. But they are not the only clubs involved in the saga, with the Slovenian striker on the shortlist of Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal after they failed to sign Victor Osimhen. As per The Athletic, Al-Hilal have also looked at Newcastle's Alexander Isak – who wants to leave St. James' Park for Liverpool – but now they believe the Swede and Sesko are unattainable. They value him at £150m but if they were to sell it may boost their chances of buying Sesko who recorded 21 goals last season and was previously pursued by Arsenal. It is said the 22-year-old is open to joining either Newcastle or Manchester United, with the former also eyeing up PSG's Goncalo Ramos as an alternative.
