Baby injured after e-bike rider sprays fire extinguisher inside car
Queensland police are investigating after a young baby was injured when a person sprayed a fire extinguisher inside a car on the Sunshine Coast.
Tiffani Teasdale's five-month-old daughter Pixie was in the back seat as their car waited at traffic lights on High Street in Sippy Downs about 7.45pm on Sunday.
Ms Teasdale said an e-bike pulled up next to the car and the rider sprayed a fire extinguisher inside the vehicle through the window, before riding away.
"The car just filled up with gas and white powder straight away," Ms Teasdale said.
"[Pixie] was completely covered in white powder and just looked like she was in shock, she wasn't even crying.
"We were in hospital until very early morning and they had to put 100 millilitres of saline solution into her eyes.
"I've never heard her scream like that before, I actually had to leave the room.
"The doctors had to hold her down for me because it was the most horrible thing I've ever heard ... no one should have to go through that."
Pixie was discharged with Ms Teasdale instructed to monitor her condition.
"She's quite red in the face, her eyes are still a bit swollen," Ms Teasdale said.
"She's a little bit wheezy but I think she should be fine."
Ms Teasdale described the attack as horrific.
"I'm all for teenagers going out and having fun, but not at the expense of other people's lives," she said.
The fire extinguisher spray left a thick film blanketing the car's interior, destroying the baby's pram, toys and nappy bag.
A local car detailing business has offered to clean the family's vehicle for free.
Ms Teasdale said someone reported a fire extinguisher abandoned on a nearby street.
"We're going to take that to the police station today and hopefully they're able to get some fingerprints off it," she said.
Sunshine Coast police said officers were aware of the incident and were investigating.
Anyone with information was urged to contact police.
The incident comes after a similar nearby attack at the weekend.
Police received a report that two youths on e-scooters sprayed a fire extinguisher into an Indian restaurant about 8.30pm on Saturday.
The restaurant had to remove the patrons and temporarily close the kitchen while the venue was cleaned.

‘Respected' Constable Keith Anthony Smith killed in shooting incident on regional Tasmania property
Tasmania Police has confirmed the identity of the police officer killed during a shooting in Tasmania's north. Constable Keith Anthony Smith, 57, an officer for 25 years at Tasmania Police, was executing a court-ordered warrant on a regional property in North Motton with another officer on Monday. Constable Smith was shot and killed at the property – the first fatal police shooting since 1999. Tasmania Police Commissioner Donna Adams identified the fallen officer with permission from his family. She said the police veteran had previously worked in the north and northwest region of the state before moving to the Ulverstone area about five years ago. Tasmania's police commissioner has named the officer fatally shot on Monday while on duty as Constable Keith Anthony Smith, a 25-year veteran of the police service. Constable Smith, 57, was shot dead while taking part in "routine duties" at a rural property at North Motton property in the state's north-west. "Keith was a respected and committed officer, and his loss will be deeply felt across our policing family and the wider community," Commissioner Donna Adams said. "My heart goes out to Keith's wife and family. We will be supporting them in every way we can during this incredibly difficult time." Constable Smith was shot by the resident of the home as he approached to execute a court-ordered warrant to repossess the house. Special Operations Group (SOG) police who were in attendance shot the man in the hand, after which he surrendered, police said. Constable Smith died at the scene. The family of Constable Smith has asked for privacy at this time.
