Jimmy Kimmel Says ‘Manufactured' Liberal Outrage Over Comedians Is a Big Reason Trump Got Reelected
Jimmy Kimmel is no fan of Donald Trump, but the late-night host does think that policing what comedians can say, particularly by liberals, certainly helped the man get reelected in 2024.
In a new profile with Rolling Stone on Tuesday, Kimmel explained his approach to comedy, particularly in regards to making off-color jokes here and there. According to the ABC host, 'I don't put limits on what I laugh at,' but he also 'won't make a joke that I wouldn't make if a person of that color or persuasion was in the room.'
That said, Kimmel noted that he thinks many are far too strict in this realm.
'I think a lot of the outrage is completely manufactured, and it's like, a lot of these people who are angry aren't really angry,' he said. 'I think these liberals who have done such a good job of viciously attacking comedians are a big part of the reason why Trump is the president right now.'
When pressed to expound and clarify on that idea, Kimmel argued that whenever someone decides something is not funny and makes a point to intervene and argue exactly why it's not, 'it just doesn't give you a good feeling about a person.'
'There's no black and white when it comes to comedy. There is no line,' Kimmel said. 'The line is different for every person. Dave Chappelle can say things that somebody else might not be able to. I don't think anybody should be canceled. I really don't.'
In 2021, Chappelle faced backlash for his comedy special 'The Closer,' which included jokes targeting trans and other LGBTQ+ people.

Fans mock NBA, ABC for putting ‘CGI' trophies on Finals court after outcry
The NBA and ABC digitally inserted images of the Larry O'Brien Trophy onto the court during the broadcast of Game 2 of the NBA Finals, leading an array of reactions on social media — many of which made fun of the decision. Fans had taken umbrage with the fact that there were no decals during Game 1 — not even digital ones — and the league appeared to take notice Sunday night, alternating between an image of the trophy and a logo that read 'The NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV.' According to Awful Announcing, the NBA has not featured physical decals on the court since 2020 and large physical decals of the trophy haven't been put on the floor of the Finals since 2009. But the attempt by the league and ABC on Sunday drew criticism from fans. 'FANS: The NBA Finals are supposed to be special. You could at least put the logo back on the court. 'NBA: Here are the terribly low-res digital Larry O'Brien Trophies superimposed on the court like you wanted. They're glitchy and disappear if we cut back to them too quickly.' a fan wrote on X. 'Looks like the @NBA got the memo about fans wanting more visuals of the #NBAFinals insignia and Larry OB, but superimposing a digital image isn't the answer,' another person wrote on x. ESPN had digital trophies on the court for Game 2 of the NBA Finals. Screengrab via X/@awfulannouncing 'Lmaoo Adam silver said 'here damn' and put a cgi trophy logo on the finals court,' a third person said on the social media platform. The trophy on the court has become such a talking point among fans on social media that NBA commissioner Adam Silver had weighed in about it after Game 1. 'To be honest, I hadn't thought all that much about it until I (saw) it (on social media),' he told reporters, per The Athletic. 'I'm nostalgic, as well, for certain things. And also, I think for a media-driven culture, whether it's people watching live or seeing those images on social media, it's nice when you're looking back on highlights and they stand out because you see that trophy logo or some other indication that it's a special event. So, we'll look at it.' The Thunder's court didn't have the NBA trophies that were shown digitally on the broadcast. Imagn Images After all the talk about it during Game 2, Silver might explore the situation further ahead of Game 3. The Thunder won Game 2, 123-107, to even the series up at 1-1.

Zelensky says he understands Putin ‘much better' than Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian officials understand Russian leader Vladimir Putin 'much better' than President Trump, who has repeatedly said Putin wants peace, even as he rejects U.S. proposals for a ceasefire. 'With all due respect to President Trump, I think it's just his personal opinion,' Zelensky told Martha Raddatz on ABC's 'This Week' in an interview that aired Sunday morning. 'Trust me, we understand the Russians much better, the mentality of the Russians, than the Americans understand the Russians. I know for sure Putin doesn't want to stop the war.' Zelensky also took issue with Trump's comments in the Oval Office this week comparing Ukraine and Russia to children fighting. 'We are not playing in the park with the Russians like two boys, two kids. Putin is not a kid,' Zelensky said. 'So we can't compare, and we cannot say, 'OK, let them fight for a while.'' 'And it's not about President Trump,' he added. 'Anyone living thousands of miles away can't fully understand the pain, even parents who live in Ukraine cannot feel the pain of those who lost their children.' Ukraine stunned Russia last weekend with drone attacks on Russian air bases, which it said destroyed dozens of bombers. The drones were smuggled into Russia on 18-wheeler trucks, which were parked near military bases and remotely opened ahead of the attack. Trump spoke with Putin on Wednesday, telling reporters that Russia planned to retaliate for the drone strikes. Russia killed five people in Ukraine in drone attacks the next day. Raddatz asked Zelensky if he believed Trump thinks Russia is winning the war. 'I think he's publicly said about it, and I know that he shared this information with some people around him, and I think the separation — and I said it a lot of times, it's not true. It's not a victory when you spent, really spent 1 million people,' he said. Zelensky added that Trump 'must' impose stronger sanctions on Russia. Trump this week said he had yet to look at Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-S.C.) Russia sanctions bill, which is co-sponsored by more than 80 senators, but the president said senators would not move without his blessing. Senators in both parties are itching for the green light. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) told reporters that the bill could hit the floor during the current four-week work period. '[The White House is] still hopeful they'll be able to strike some sort of a deal, but … there's a high level of interest here in the Senate on both sides of the aisle in moving on it,' he said. 'I think a genuine interest in doing something to make clear to Russia that they need to come to the table … I think that would have a big impact.' 'Miller is a man who is richly endowed with the capacity for hatred. He's a world-class hater.' ABC's move to suspend Moran came after White House press secretary suggested the network take action against the veteran journalist.
