'Action need to be taken fast, people must stop exploiting artistes for ratings and monetary gains', says Karyawan of malice that is threatening Malaysia and the region
Some of these videos created by these irresponsible parties paint a sad picture of these top artistes, including personal issues, sickness and in some cases even falsely reporting the death of the artiste concerned.
The trend is not new in Malaysia. Such issues have cropped in many countries especially in South-East Asia including th likes of the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia.
And in many occasions it is the artistes that have to pay the heavy price and some had been even picked up by the authorities for questioning on such issues.
'None of these (such fake news and malice intent) could be further from the truth. We are becoming increasingly concerned about this trend that is becoming more and more prevalent on social media.
"These videos are created by those who are willing to fabricate false stories about our artistes in order to chase views and money' said Karyawan President Datuk Freddie Fernandez.
'These videos also use fabricated voices and images from AI technology, to create catchy video titles that are supposedly exclusive, when in fact they are nothing but mere fabrications.'
'More worryingly, there is also content that at first glance seems to be shocking news about artistes, but when clicked on, it takes viewers to pages that sell various products.
'The names and images of the artistes are used without their permission, which is clearly a violation of their rights.
"This is not only immoral, but a form of blatant fraud and exploitation of artistes. It also confuses the public, makes fans panic, and damages the reputation of the artistes themselves, leading to losses in potential income for the artistes concerned' he added.
'We call on authorities such as MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) to monitor and block fake content like these from going viral. Platforms such as YouTube, TikTok and Facebook also need to be more strict in their monitoring to ensure the veracity of the content uploaded on their platforms.
'We also encourage the public to actively report fake videos like these. If many people report to the operating platform, their channels could be suspended or blocked immediately. We must all take responsibility so that our digital space becomes healthier and free from scams such as these.'
In some cases in recent times, many scammers have also been using AI to copy voices of famous actresses and actors, top singers and celebrities, to scam people from buying their products which has led to some people losing huge amounts of money.
'To fellow artists and art activists, let us unite to defend the dignity of our fellow artistes.
"And to all Malaysian citizens – do not easily believe everything that goes viral. Filter before sharing. In this era of AI, we are going to be faced with more and more fake content such as these. Let's work together to put these irresponsible people out of business," said Freddie.

Ismail Sabri denies any link to attack on Rafizi's son
KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) is denying any claims on social media that he is involved in the attack on Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli's son. In a statement on Wednesday (Aug 19), the former prime minister said that a police report was made over the allegations on Facebook. "On Aug 18, my press secretary made a police report at the Dang Wangi police station over two articles on Facebook that claim I was involved in the attack on Rafizi's son as well as a scandal involving a private company. "A report was lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Facebook. "The articles are false and malicious, meant to besmirch my reputation and name," he said. He also urged authorities to take action against those responsible. "I have also instructed my lawyer to take legal action on those involved," he said. Previously, police confirmed that Rafizi's son had been assaulted on Aug 13 at a shopping mall in Putrajaya. Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel for breaking news alerts and key updates!

Seremban family's RM200 flag display for Merdeka competition
SEREMBAN: Jasmin Abu Hassan has turned his Taman Pinggiran Senawang residence into a spectacular display of patriotism using only RM200. The 53-year-old water company supervisor decorated his house with over 150 flags for the 'Rumah Terpaling Merdeka' competition. He received assistance from his wife Rosmaini Mohd Yusof, a 47-year-old kindergarten teacher, throughout the two-week decoration process. Jasmin explained how this year's effort surpassed his previous attempts at festive decoration. 'Last year I only hung flags, but this time I added a special touch by including extra decorations,' he stated. The additional elements included the Negeri Sembilan state flag and portraits of national leaders displayed at his house entrance. 'This year is livelier because there are winners every week,' Jasmin commented about the enhanced competition format. He noted that the decorations have become more creative compared to previous years. 'The children are excited to help,' Jasmin added about family participation in the project. He proudly displayed portraits of all Malaysian Prime Ministers from the first to the current leader. Jasmin achieved the overall runner-up position in last year's competition. The father of six has resided in the neighborhood for twenty-five years. Approximately forty percent of his decorations remain incomplete before the month-end deadline. Taman Pinggiran Senawang Neighbourhood Watch chairman Fadzil Sharil expressed satisfaction with the competition's growth. The 59-year-old chairman noted the event now enters its second successful year. 'We have received growing response, with more than 80 per cent of residents participating,' Fadzil revealed. He observed that participants showcase greater creativity in decorating their homes compared to last year. 'So far, we already have four weekly winners,' the chairman told reporters. Although the prizes are modest medals, hampers and daily necessities, Fadzil praised participants' extraordinary spirit. 'Every week new elements are added, making the neighbourhood livelier,' he remarked. Twenty best-decorated houses will advance to the finals scheduled for September 6. The competition features four judging categories: cheerfulness, arrangement, creativity and neatness. The neighbourhood watch committee has also created a national landmark replica for the celebrations. They constructed miniature KLCC towers using 500 recycled bottles and PVC pipes. This community project forms part of the broader National Month decorations throughout the area. - Bernama
