Who is Shane Flowers?
Standing at an impressive 6'4" and weighing in at around 153–160kg, before his Strongman career, Shane was a competitive powerlifter, representing England at international level.
His transition to strongman began during the Covid-19 lockdown, when gym closures forced him to improvise and train with heavy construction items such as bags of sand and weighted scaffolding poles.

"With powerlifting you have to train with very specific kit and I no longer had access to that, but I wanted to carry on lifting weights.
"So I literally just bought a budget strongman kit, which was just sandbags and logs — all that kind of stuff.
"I started training on my driveway and realised I was pretty good at it."

Balancing work and training
Remarkably, Shane has achieved these impressive results while working long hours in the oil industry.
Only recently has he been able to reduce his work hours to focus more on training and recovery, setting up a dedicated strongman gym at home.
He explained: "I basically worked a security role on an oil farm, and I was doing upwards of 84 hours and still trying to coach and train at the same time. I was burning the candle at both ends."
Outside of competition, Shane also works as an online strength coach and maintains an active presence on social media, where he shares training insights and interacts with fans.

They're just good friends. The reality is they're only there to play tennis.", reports the Express. The former US Open champions will be fully focused on giving their all in their opening match against Pegula and Draper, and Petchey is excited to follow their progress. He added: 'It's exciting for us as fans and I think it's actually very exciting for the players that are involved in it as well. 'Emma and Carlos are excited to play and all the players that I spoke to at Montreal and Cincinnati are all excited to play. They're all thrilled with the opportunity. I think they're all pretty jacked to go and show how much it means to them to try and win this event but also to go and put on a great show for tennis. 'I'm a big fan of the event, I'm a big fan of what they've tried to create, and there may be a bit of tweaking here and there as we go forward. 'The thing about tennis is if you don't try it, you'll never know, and you can go back if it doesn't work. But I think it's going to be a massive success.' Alcaraz had a quick turnaround after the Cincinnati Open, where he lifted the trophy when Jannik Sinner was forced to retire with an illness just 23 minutes into their final on Monday. 'I think it's going to be new for me, which I love. I'm going to have so much fun playing there, playing with Emma. It's going to be tough against Draper and Pegula, but I will try to enjoy as much as I can,' he said on Monday night. 'I will try to see how it's going to be, the court, the balls, everything. I will treat that as a really important and good preparation for me. Brian O'Driscoll insists it was the right move for Johnny Sexton not to link up with Ireland for the Women's Rugby World Cup. In April, Sexton agreed to come on board with the IRFU in a full-time coaching capacity from August 1 in an expanded role that would involve working with the national men's and women's teams up to senior level. "I think he's probably still finding his feet and trying to work out where he can add value," said Sexton's ex-colleague O'Driscoll.
