Nintendo denies Switch 2 report claiming that Japanese retailers are getting a bigger cut of each sale following a timely drop in stocks and shares
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nintendo has publicly debunked a report claiming that the company is allowing Japanese retailers to earn more from each Nintendo Switch 2 console sold. While the Nintendo Switch 2 looks poised to be a success no matter how you shake it, Nintendo has taken some unconventional approaches to the launch of its new console. For example, a Japanese-only version of the console which is selling for 20,000 Yen less than the multi-language version. Even the Mario Kart World bundle is a bit of an unconventional choice, since the last Nintendo console to come bundled with a game at launch was the Wii back in 2006 (and even then, Wii Sports was only a pack-in after Reggie Fils-Amié fought for it). Just ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2 launching later this week, Bloomberg reported that Nintendo would be giving a bigger cut of every Nintendo Switch 2 sold to retailers. "Store operators will be able to make a gross margin of about 5% on each Switch 2 sold, higher than the informal industry standard of roughly 2%" the report said, adding "The decision will help bolster domestic retailers and ensure the new console is given prominent placement at outlets across the country." Around four hours later, Nintendo took to Twitter to debunk the rumour: "A news report related to the wholesale price of Nintendo Switch 2 in the Japanese market was published. We want to clarify that this report is not true. Nintendo does not disclose any information regarding business conditions with distribution and retail partners."While Nintendo is well known for not commenting on rumours, on Monday (when this report was published) Nintendo shares dropped which likely led the publisher to make a public statement about the report. J Balvin's First Electric Motorcycle Is Part Sculpture, Part Anime
Last month,J Balvincelebrated his monumental 40th birthday with a casino-themed bash in Tuscany's rolling vineyards that was attended by the likes ofDaddy Yankee,Sofia Vergara, andZion. The star of the night, however, was not an A-lister but a one-of-one, bright-red, electric motorcycle, the first to come from Balvin's creative studio VVT (Vita Veloce Team), which he founded last year with designerMattias Gollin. Designed in collaboration withDAB Motors, the bubbly bike's arrival at the affair was quite the shock for Balvin.'He knew the DAB x VVT bike was coming,' said Gollin and Simon Dabadie, founder of DAB. 'But he had no idea when it would be ready. We kept the manufacturing of the motorcycle completely secret. Rolling it out at Castello di Velona, surrounded by friends—that moment felt special.' With AI-powered design tools and 3D-modeling capabilities, the prototype was brought to life in just three weeks. 'Part sculpture, part anime, and fully rideable,' the bike was built on DAB's1α platform with fully enclosed wheels, a sleek windshield, a deep matte red body, and all-over graphic sticker decorations — all in a bid to create a machine that looks like it came straight out of a popular Japanese animated movie. From a technical perspective, the two-seater motorcycle has a top speed of 130 km/hr, with a zero to 100% charging time of three hours and 30 minutes (compatible with both home sockets and Type 2 stations). The design also produces a multi-sensory experience, with sound-absorbing foam on the wheel covers and rims that creates a low-frequency tone, as well as atmospheric LED light strips in the wheels. 'It's cinematic, but functional, we wanted to build something that felt like riding through a dream,' Gollin and Dabadie concluded. An Iconic Sunset Strip Chinese Restaurant Is Closing ‘Unexpectedly' After More 40 Years
Another longtime Los Angeles restaurant is set to close. Chin Chin, a decades-old Chinese restaurant along West Hollywood's Sunset Strip, will shutter on July 27, 2025 after more than 40 years. Chin Chin's other locations in Brentwood, Studio City, and Las Vegas will remain open. Eater LA has reached out for more information. Chin Chin announced the closure in an Instagram post on May 31 that read, 'After 45 unforgettable years (sic) in West Hollywood, we are heartbroken to announce that Chin Chin will be unexpectedly closing its doors at our Sunset Plaza location and will begin the search for a new home.' The restaurant hopes to reopen in a new location and has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with the relocation process and support its employees in the meantime. Chin Chin first opened its doors in West Hollywood in 1983, serving dim sum, alongside its signature Chinese chicken salad dotted with wonton strips, pot stickers, and more. Over the decades, it became a favorite for locals and celebrities alike, with actor Sean Hayes even publicly expressing his adoration for the restaurant. Other celebrities, including Lindsay Lohan, Megan Fox, and Britney Spears, have been spotted at Chin Chin. Chin Chin is just the most recent in a series of closures that have hit the Sunset Strip. Earlier this year, West Hollywood restaurants the Den, Hudson House, Le Petit Four, and Rock & Reilly's all suddenly shuttered. Tesse also closed in late 2024 after six years of operation. And while the closures change the landscape of the neighborhood, new exciting openings are also headed to the area, like the arrival of Japanese food hall Round 1 Delicious, which will bring eight high-end restaurants from Japan under one roof, and the reopening of Aitor Zabala's acclaimed Somni off Santa Monica Boulevard.
