With Shakira Austin back, youthful Mystics keep it up to beat the Sun
UNCASVILLE, Conn. — Midway through the third quarter Sunday afternoon, Shakira Austin stood, turned left and headed toward the tunnel leading to the Washington Mystics' locker room. After being ejected, she gave a quick wave as she disappeared.
The No. 3 pick in the 2022 WNBA draft had made her season debut against the Connecticut Sun — and she quickly made her presence known, showing off her rare skill set before getting into a fracas and later getting tossed. Without her, the Mystics went on to win, 90-85, having erased an early 15-point deficit to start the season 2-0 — but the return of a healthy Austin was the best news of the day.

CHICAGO (AP) — Colt Keith hit a tiebreaking RBI double in the eighth inning to help the major league-leading Detroit Tigers beat the lowly Chicago White Sox 5-4 on a rainy Wednesday night. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Heliot Ramos hit a tying two-run double in the seventh then Jung Hoo Lee followed with a sacrifice fly that put San Francisco ahead, and the Giants rallied to beat the San Diego Padres 6-5 on Wednesday night. San Francisco ended a stretch of 16 straight games scoring four or fewer runs. Gavin Sheets hit a two-run triple in the first then singled in two more runs in the fifth for San Diego, which had a pair of 10-inning wins to start the four-game series.
