Four breakout performances to look out for on ‘The White Lotus'

Boston Globe24-02-2025

As tempting as it is to run down the entire cast list, here are the four whose work I'm most excited to watch play out.
Carrie Coon as 'Laurie'
HBO dramas have been good to Coon, who reliably elevates every production she touches. She's also a remarkable chameleon. Even if you were a fan of her on 'The Leftovers' or '
Natasha Rothwell as 'Belinda'
Though Rothwell's patient massage therapist already appeared in the first season, she almost always shared her scenes alongside Coolidge's (beautifully) exaggerated performance, making it harder for her to stand out on her own considerable merits. Thankfully, her return signals that White may have much more for her to dig into this time around.
Lalisa Manobal as 'Mook'
To millions of fans across the world, Manobal's better known as simply 'Lisa,' a member of the hugely successful K-pop group, Blackpink. On 'The White Lotus,' though, she's a cheerful hotel employee who almost certainly has more to her than meets the eye. It'll be fascinating to see how a pop star takes on the role of a seemingly mild-mannered assistant, a metatextual irony that White and casting director Meredith Tucker certainly considered.

Aimee Lou Wood as 'Chelsea'
As Chelsea, the chatty (and much younger) girlfriend to Goggins' cranky entrepreneur, Woods immediately made a strong impression — which confirmed my suspicions that out of everyone in this cast, she'd be my bet for which bright young 'White Lotus' actor could be this season's breakout a la Sweeney in season 1 or Mass. native Meghann Fahy in season 2.

‘Ginny And Georgia' Dethroned By A New Show In Netflix's Top 10 List

Ginny and Georgia season 3 Netflix Ginny and Georgia season 3 has been planted at the #1 spot in Netflix's Top 10 list since its second day of release, and while it will likely continue that going forward, it has taken a temporary drop to #2. Once again, we have a returning champion, WWE Monday Night RAW, which has taken the #1 spot. This is not an uncommon development, but there are many instances that RAW only lands at #2 or #3, depending on what's happening on a given night. But recent storylines have been developed well, and last night's episode is receiving a lot of praise thanks to things like unpredictable title changes, a fairly rare occurrence these days: Also, the recently released R-Truth shaved his head which was something to behold, and he transformed into the not-released Ron Killings: Wild times over there, and not surprising that it managed to knock down Ginny and Georgia. Season 2 of the show was #1 on Netflix for about two weeks when it was released in January 2023. Season 3 was released on June 5, so we're not even at a full week yet. Performance does not matter here all that much, as season 4 of Ginny and Georgia was greenlit way back in 2024. The other entries on the list have just shifted down a bit. The Shane Gillis comedy Tires is at #3 now, back for season 3. The Survivors is Netflix's new 100% scored mystery series that may stay high for a bit if word of mouth spreads. One interesting addition here is Blindspot, a full 100 episodes of the show that ran for 5 seasons back when shows were actually 20 episodes on network TV. The series stars Jaimie Alexander and started in 2015 before it ended in 2020. Seriously, five seasons, five years, 100 episodes. Quite literally impossible in 2025 here. We have lost that magic for whatever reason. I'm curious if Blindspot will attract a larger-scale audience like we previously saw with Suits. Shows with a lot of back episodes like this tend to stick around on Netflix. I just checked how the show scored, but it doesn't even have ratings for its last three seasons and season 2 only had six reviews (albeit that was a 100%). Ginny and Georgia will be back on top as soon as tomorrow, I would guess, and we will see if it can match the two weeks on top it had before. I do expect this show to run as long as it wants, but we'll see how it retains viewers over time. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Jeremy Allen White Is the New Face of Louis Vuitton. Here's Why the Two Are a Perfect Match.

After months of subtle sartorial hints, Jeremy Allen White is now a Louis Vuitton ambassador. Known for his misanthropic roles across critically acclaimed TV shows, like Shameless and The Bear, White has yet to make the official jump into the luxury realm. However, the actor attended both the SAG Awards and the Met Gala in full Louis Vuitton earlier this year after being introduced to the maison and its men's creative director, Pharrell Williams, by his longtime stylist, Jamie Mizrahi—a sure sign in the celebrity fashion world that something is brewing. Establishing a signature style with a house like Louis Vuitton feels like a natural next step, especially while his star power continues to grow as he preps for his upcoming role as Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me from Nowhere. At the SAG Awards, White quietly subverted the traditional three-piece suit, opting for a boot-cut trouser and no necktie. Meanwhile at the Met just a few months later, The Iron Claw actor stepped out onto the carpet again in a sharply tailored three-piece suit, this time adhering to more traditional rules, and honoring the 'tailored for you' theme with a slim necktie and straight-leg pant. 'Jeremy's got a quiet confidence and authenticity that you can't fake. It's effortless. At Louis Vuitton, it's about real people who move culture forward—and Jeremy lives that. We're proud to welcome him into the family,' said Williams in a statement. The announcement is accompanied by a video highlighting the behind-the-scenes of the shoot in White's hometown, New York City. Relaxed and low-key, the collaborative campaign capitalizes on the inherent style that White exudes and points to the burgeoning creative relationship between actor and brand.

Jason Isaacs on the Decision That Saved His Life

Jason Isaacs, 62, is a British actor best known for the 'Harry Potter' film series, and TV's 'Star Trek: Discovery' and 'The White Lotus.' He currently co-stars in the biographical drama film 'Words of War.' He spoke with Marc Myers. Because I have an English accent, Americans often assume I have an expansive knowledge of culture, which is hilarious. I went to good schools, but all my family ever did was watch TV.
