Police finally arrest man for throwing sex toy that struck 12-year-old girl at WNBA game
The man accused of hurling a sex toy toward the court during a New York Liberty game - striking a 12-year-old girl - has finally been arrested, police confirmed. Officials say the suspect has been identified as Charles Burgess, 32, of Dayton, Ohio. He was taken into custody by New York Police Department officers on Wednesday, facing two counts of assault in connection with the bizarre incident. According to court and police records, it remains unclear whether Burgess has been formally booked or if he has retained legal counsel. At the start of the month, NYPD launched a search for Burgess, over a sex toy-throwing incident that occurred during the Liberty's game against the Dallas Wings. Officials confirmed that they were seeking out a man - pictured wearing a 'Beavis and Butthead' t-shirt - who is believed to have taken part in the disturbing trend. According to Crime Stoppers, the man was seen throwing a green sex toy from the stands, during a New York Liberty game on Tuesday, which struck a 12-year-old girl. Police have now revealed that the suspect fled the scene on foot and remained on the run until Wednesday. According to the New York Post, one fan said: 'The object was thrown from someone much higher up but definitely in the same section. 'When it landed, the girl started screaming/freaking out (understandably) for like 30 [seconds] and got the attention of most people within the surrounding rows'. Security footage from the Barclays Center showed the man - who has tattoos up and down his arms - wearing a red and black hat as he walked through the arena. Unlike in other incidents that have plagued the league, the sex toy did not make it onto the court and officials were reportedly able to dispose of the item swiftly. Meanwhile, earlier this month, two individuals - including an 18-year-old - were arrested over similar indecent acts in the last week. Kaden Lopez, 18, was booked into jail on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault and public display of explicit sexual material following the game between the Mercury and Sun, Fox 10 Phoenix has reported. While the toy did not reach the court, it allegedly hit an adult male victim who was attending the game with his nine-year-old niece, according to a court document. The moment of Lopez throwing the object, described as a 'green dildo', was captured on video, and the teen was tackled by an arena volunteer before being detained by police. Lopez allegedly apologized for the act, saying it was 'stupid prank that was trending on social media.' It is also alleged in court documents that he bought the toy on Monday - just one day before the game. Days prior to that, Delbert Carver, 23, was arrested for allegedly throwing sex toys onto the floor of two WNBA games last week

The Edinburgh rape crisis centre is abiding by the gender judgment. Why can't the SNP follow suit?
At first glance, the news that a rape crisis centre planned to in future only hire women wouldn't really take anyone by surprise, now would it? However, when it is the Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre (ERCC) announcing that this is now its recruitment policy, the news certainly does attract comment. And very welcome comment at that, because its activities had created incredible controversy when it was learned that women rape victims were dealt with at this centre by a trans woman who was also its chief executive. And a review found that the ERCC had failed to provide women-only spaces for 16 months. And while one swallow does not make a summer, what is encouraging is that at least one official body in Scotland is changing tack. Unfortunately, there is no sign yet that the Scottish Government is ready to fully accept that the situation regarding access to previously women-only venues has been clarified by the Supreme Court justices. Campaign group For Women Scotland, which took the issue to the Supreme Court and won, has now lodged an action at the Court of Session, claiming Scottish Government rules on transgender pupils in schools and transgender people in custody are 'in clear breach' of the April judgment. But now, in what is being seen as a move that brooks no further argument, it has announced that it will no longer be hiring trans women – and in doing so they're abiding to the letter and spirit of April's Supreme Court judgment about 'what is a woman'. It is accepting the judges ruling that the words 'woman' and 'sex' in the 2010 Equality Act refer to a biological woman and biological sex. For instance, they say that for single-sex school toilets, official guidance states young people 'where possible' should be able to 'use the facilities they feel most comfortable with'. And in prisons, transgender women could be admitted to former women only areas when they were deemed not to pose an 'unacceptable risk of harm' to women inmates. The group wants the schools and prisons guidance suspended until the Court of Session considers the case as by remaining in place they were to the 'detriment of vulnerable women and girls'. The ERCC's decision on its hiring policy and the new action before the Court of Session demonstrates yet again how much the trans issue has changed in recent months. And missed by nobody will be the fact that the Supreme Court judgment actually enshrined in law what most people believed to be common sense anyway – that a woman is a biological female. Furthermore, the latest developments are surfacing just as the politician who created the widespread confusion and controversy over the gender issue leaves the stage. Whatever the future holds for the former first minister, Nicola Sturgeon 's potentially dangerous view about allowing biological males access to women-only safe areas caused, for a time, a bitter furore in Scottish public opinion. But thankfully, the Supreme Court as well as the likes of novelist JK Rowling, politician Joanna Cherry and the resolute For Women Scotland group, have begun to erase that memory. It is up to the SNP Government to continue that process, instead of seeking to find ways round the justices' firm declaration and hang on to some of Sturgeon's bitter legacy.

Man arrested for WNBA sex-toy throwing at Liberty game, the 3rd arrest in string of disturbances
An Ohio man has been arrested for the throwing of a sex toy at a WNBA game in New York, police said Thursday. It's the latest development in a string of disturbances where similar toys were tossed at WNBA games across the country, resulting in at least three arrests. Charles Burgess, 32, from Dayton, Ohio, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly throwing an object at the Dallas Wings vs. New York Liberty game on Aug. 5, New York police told The Associated Press. The object hit a 12-year-old girl, and Burgess was charged with two counts of assault. It wasn't immediately clear whether Burgess had an attorney. Similar disturbances happened during games in Atlanta on July 29 and Aug. 1, Los Angeles and Phoenix on Aug. 5, and Chicago on Aug. 1 and Aug. 7. Some of the sex toys reached the court and caused game delays, while others landed in the crowds, such as in Phoenix where an 18-year-old was arrested. The man in that case told police it was a prank that had been trending on social media and he bought the toy a day earlier to take to the game. He was tackled at the arena by a volunteer who had allegedly witnessed him throwing it and began following him as he tried to leave the arena. Police have said that man was arrested on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct and publicly displaying explicit sexual material. A man was also arrested in Georgia for the two toy-throwings at Atlanta Dream games, according to a police report. He is charged with disorderly conduct, criminal trespassing, public indecency and indecent exposure. All four charges are misdemeanors in the state of Georgia, meaning that if he is convicted, the punishment for each can be a fine of up to $1,000 or jail time of up to 12 months. A misdemeanor for public indecency and indecent exposure may also require registration on the state's sex offender list. The report said the Georgia man told police 'this was supposed to be a joke and the joke (was) supposed to go viral.' The sex toy that landed on the court in Los Angeles nearly hit Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. League officials have said any person throwing objects onto the court will be ejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban from attending games. Media reports on the disturbances have tied the toy-throwings to a group involved in a related Cryptocurrency meme coin. ___
