Malaysia Can Dethrone Thailand In SEA Games Regu Event
KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- The national sepak takraw squad is on the right track to win gold in the regu event at the SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this year, said Malaysian Sepaktakraw Association president Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan.
His confidence has been boosted by the national squad's success in winning the regu event at the Sepak Takraw Asian Cup 2025 here yesterday.
'Our target is of course gold, since our regu team has already won multiple times in the tournaments they've participated in.

'However, it won't be easy because we have to remember that we'll be playing away, and in Thailand the environment will definitely be different. So the chances of us getting gold are 50-50,' he told reporters yesterday. Thailand are the SEA Games regu defending champions.
Earlier, Malaysia made headlines by defeating arch-rivals Thailand 2-0 in the Asian Cup regu final at Titiwangsa Stadium.
The national trio of Farhan Adam (feeder), Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi (tekong) and Mohamad Azlan Alias (striker) had little trouble winning 15-12, 15-9, giving Malaysia their second title in the Asian Cup.
Mohd Sumali said he was pleased to see the regu squad maintaining their fine form following their triumph at last year's World Cup.
He hoped that the momentum would carry through to the team regu event, which kicked off today.
'Of course, winning the Asian Cup is no easy feat. But I told the players to set aside that victory for now because we have a bigger mission — to chase a third title at the Asian Cup. I hope the players can stay focused on achieving that mission,' he said.

LONDON: Thomas Tuchel says his England players are fully aware they under-performed in their 1-0 victory over minnows Andorra on Saturday and that he has no need to "sugarcoat" criticism. England came under fire for their sloppy performance in the World Cup qualifier in Barcelona, where Harry Kane scored the only goal early in the second half. They were booed after struggling to break down a team ranked 173rd in the world even though they extended Tuchel's winning start to three games. "I think there was commonsense straight after in the dressing room," Tuchel told reporters on Monday, on the eve of a friendly against Senegal in Nottingham. "We all shared the same feeling. We have to look at the side, we created an xG (expected goals) of four. If you look at the sides who played Andorra, we had more xG than them but failed to convert chances, being clinical and our efficiency, accuracy in our chances. "We underperformed clearly in the physical input in the game which you could see on the sideline and the data. We didn't run enough." The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss admitted the performance did not match the standards he has been trying to set since he took over as England boss at the start of the year. "I protect my players, I said no names of players," he said. "We as a team didn't match our standards. "I didn't like the last 10 minutes, I felt on the sidelines. We didn't play seriously enough to win it in the end and what we needed to do in a World Cup qualifier. "Everything I say here I say to the players, why should I sugarcoat? There is no harm done, we can have criticism and I believe a group of players in football can speak honestly to each other. "I always include myself in that – now it's on us to do better. The attitude towards training and the camp and commitment is outstanding. Everybody wanted to be there and be involved, they wanted to start and wanted to play. Iraq FA applies to host Asian World Cup qualifying group
HONG KONG: The Iraqi Football Association (IFA) has submitted an official request to host one of the two groups in the fourth round of Asian qualifiers for next year's World Cup in North America. Iraq will finish third or fourth in Group B in the third round, with 12 points ahead of their final match against Jordan in Amman on Tuesday. "We had sent a letter to International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) calling for the highest levels of transparency and fairness in the process of selecting the host country or countries for the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers," IFA said in a statement on Facebook. The IFA has said it is fully prepared to assume all organisational, security and financial obligations associated with hosting matches, with support from the Iraqi government and state institutions. In the fourth round of qualifying, the six teams who finished third and fourth in the third-stage groups will be divided into two groups. The top team in each group will qualify directly for the World Cup finals and the two teams finishing second will compete in a playoff to decide who will represent Asia in an international playoff. - Reuters

England laboured to a lacklustre 1-0 win over Andorra in World Cup qualifying on Saturday. "After the last (Premier League) game of the season I had a little strain," Saka told reporters on Monday. "Fair play to England, they managed me well. The manager left me out (on Saturday) and said I will play tomorrow. "I love coming to England camps and playing for England. It has been a bit of frustrating year with injuries but I am here now and looking forward to tomorrow." Tuchel was very critical of his team's "lack of urgency" after the win over Andorra which put them in command of Group K. "I protect my players, I said no names of players, it is not an individual matter," Tuchel said at the team's training base at St. George's Park. "But as a team we did not reach our standards. I felt we didn't play seriously enough in what we needed to do in a World Cup qualifier. "Why should we sugar coat it? You have been in the stadium, why should I tell you that we had a good game? No harm done. We can handle criticism." England should face a tougher test against Senegal. The African side, who lost 3-0 to England at the 2022 World Cup in the only previous match between the teams, are unbeaten in their last 23 matches across all competitions. England have won all three games under Tuchel and their last six matches in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet in each of the last five. Saka sidestepped a question about how Tuchel's managerial style compares to his predecessor Gareth Southgate. "I don't really like to compare, if I'm honest," Saka said. "Since I have come into the camp (Tuchel) has been quite demanding, quite intense on the pitch and off the pitch he's been more relaxed.
