Fremantle Dockers fans unleash emotions after disappointing loss to Brisbane Lions
With the top four and a double chance in sight, the Dockers had one of their biggest chances in recent history to build a strong platform for a deep September run.
However, even without dual Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale, the Lions showed they were a class above in front of more than 50,000 Fremantle fans at Optus Stadium, running over a wayward Dockers by 57 points.
It means the Dockers could be left with a one-game shootout to even make the finals against the Western Bulldogs next weekend, unless last-placed West Coast produce a miracle victory over the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
The purple army didn't hold back in the wake of the loss to the Lions, with emotions pouring out after Fremantle kicked eight behinds to start the game.
Responding to The West Australian's back page describing the Dockers' performance as 'Stage Fright', Chris Della labelled the headline more accurate than the team.
'The heading is accurate, the opposite to their goal kicking!!! Fragile under pressure,' he wrote.
David Clancy added: 'Not sure about Flagmantle, how about dismantled?'
Some fans even took aim at coach Justin Longmuir and his game plan, saying he should be sacked if they miss finals again.
'New coach with intensity and firm words is required. Auskick players move the ball quicker than Freo! No manning up, no sharking off the talls, no imagination,' Mark Killmeir wrote.
Some purple army members were more drastic in their takes on Fremantle's X posts.
'Losing two first picks for Bolton = worst ever,' Danco Jovanoski wrote.
Geoff Brian added: 'I have never been more disappointed in a Fremantle performance,' while Callum Hinton labelled the Dockers a 'bunch of pretenders' and said he was hoping for an Eagles upset.
Michael Soh was feeling the hurt, posting: 'My late father was a passionate Freo fan like me, and he would be turning in his grave after Freo's disgusting horror show tonight.'
The word 'fraud' was also bandied around.
Many fans were disappointed for club champion Nat Fyfe, who could have played his final home match after announcing he would retire at the end of the season.
'If you can't do it for Fyfe or for yourselves or your fans, what are y'all even doing?,' an account under the name churro said.
Tans Taafl added: 'Very disappointing. You couldn't even get up for Nat. You didn't even need to win, just turn up. I'll always be a Docker, but I hate that I am so invested in this club. I'll keep on believing, but this performance speaks volumes. I'm really disappointed tbh, not even angry.'

Brisbane Lions breathe easier following positive news about Jarrod Berry's shoulder injury
Lions coach Chris Fagan is confident Jarrod Berry will be available for next month's finals series despite the star midfielder dislocating his shoulder in Brisbane's win over Fremantle. However, Berry's teammate Eric Hipwood is set to be sidelined for four weeks after injuring his calf in Friday night's 57-point victory. There were fears Berry' season was over when his left shoulder popped out after he was pushed to the ground at Optus Stadium. However, Fagan on Monday was optimistic about Berry's recovery hopes and hadn't completely ruled him out of playing against Hawthorn on Sunday night at the Gabba in the final round of the regular season. 'We need a bit more information on that one,' Fagan told SEN's Fireball. 'There was a level of optimism around that he would be able to keep going, but whether that's whether he needs a week off before finals, we're not sure yet. That will be decided during the week.' A win over the Hawks will guarantee Brisbane a top-four spot, but should Hawthorn win, the Lions could finish as low as eighth on the ladder. However, with Fagan's men guaranteed to be playing finals football, the Lions won't gamble on Berry this weekend if there is 'any doubt' about his fitness. 'If there's any doubt this week, he doesn't play because you've got the bye (before the finals) the week after,' Fagan said. 'That effectively gives him a three-week period to build the strength back up in the shoulder. 'It's probably more likely that he doesn't play this week, and we just get him ready for that first week of finals.' Hipwood had been due to make his 200th AFL appearance this weekend, but he now joins an injury list that also includes Berry, co-captain Lachie Neale (quad), forward Kai Lohmann (calf) and season-ending casualties Jack Payne (knee), Noah Answerth (Achilles), Lincoln McCarthy (knee) and Keidean Coleman (quad). However, Lohmann could be available to return on Sunday night, while Neale remains on track to return for the start of Brisbane's finals campaign. 'If you look at him, he's running really well,' Fagan said of two-time Brownlow medallist Neale. 'It's just the action of kicking that's a threat to this particular type of injury that he's got. 'We'll take the maximum time to get him right, and he'll play in week one of the finals.'
