Edmonton weather: Warm with a few more scattered storms
Much like the long weekend, we'll get some mid to upper 20s afternoon temperatures AND some scattered thunderstorms today and Wednesday.
Daytime highs over the weekend were 30 C on Saturday, 25 C on Sunday, and 25 C on Monday.
We'll get to the 26-27 C range this afternoon in Edmonton with morning sun giving way to a few clouds for the afternoon.
There's a slight risk of a shower or thunderstorm in the area late this afternoon, but the best chance will be this evening and overnight.
Severe thunderstorms are possible in areas just south of Edmonton through the Calgary/Lethbridge regions; large hail is the main threat.
A mix of sun and cloud on the way for Wednesday in Edmonton with an afternoon high of 24 or 25 C and then a high probability of some showers and/or thunderstorms late in the day (especially the evening and overnight).
An area of low pressure develops over north-central Alberta Wednesday night/early Thursday and we're expecting a broad area of showers/rain that'll stretch west-to-east across the province.
The question is: Does that band of rain sit right over Edmonton and Highway 16, or is it slightly further north?
I'll keep it in the forecast as a 60-per cent chance of showers or rain for Thursday morning in Edmonton and then some sunny breaks in the afternoon.
But...there's a lot of uncertainty with where exactly that precip zone sets up.
As the low-pressure system pushes off to the east, I think we'll probably see some showers or periods of rain wrapping back through the Edmonton area.
The longer-range outlook is shaping up drier for the weekend and next week.
AND...temperatures will drop to around 20 C for highs Thursday/Friday, but they'll bounce back to the mid 20s for the weekend.

Tornado warnings issued in Manitoba

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued the warning around 5 p.m. in the R.M. of St. Clements, and the R.M. of Springfield, which includes Birds Hill Provincial Park. 'Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,' the warning reads. The storm was detected near Balmoral and is heading east at 30 km/h. ECCC says people should take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches, or if you see a funnel cloud, swirling debris near the ground, flying debris or hear a roaring sound. 'Go indoors to a room on the lowest floor, away from outside walls and windows, such as a basement, bathroom, stairwell or interior closet,' ECCC said. 'Leave mobile homes, vehicles, tents, trailers and other temporary or free-standing shelter, and move to a strong building if you can.' Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for August 6, 2025. Between wildfires and drought conditions, some welcomed showers will move across most of Manitoba on Wednesday. On the other hand, the low pressure disturbances slowly crossing the province also come with the risk of thunderstorms—and unwanted lightning. A thunderstorm already passed over Winnipeg Wednesday morning. More showers or another thunderstorm this afternoon or evening can't be entirely ruled out. Across all of southern Manitoba, there is a moderate chance of afternoon showers with the risk of thunderstorms. (Photo by Shawn Dagg) Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says there is the possibility funnel clouds could form Wednesday afternoon from Swan River to the southern edge of Lake Manitoba. This comes after the weather agency reported a likely tornado Tuesday evening near Belleview, as thunderstorms moved over the southwest. Conditions are favourable for a much-needed soaking over northern regions Wednesday, including wildfire areas. Flin Flon could see 10-15 mm of showers that will end overnight. Showers in other areas, including Thompson, are also expected to taper off overnight. Meanwhile, an air quality warning continues for northern and eastern Manitoba.

Canadian Armed Forces to stay one more week in Saskatchewan to fight wildfires
The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) says the recent scattered rain brought little relief to the wildfire situation and it has asked the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) to extend their stay in the province to continue fighting the blaze. About 300 Canadian Armed Forces members have been deployed to fight the wildfire in northern Saskatchewan for the past two weeks. 'We still have 300 Armed Forces personnel here in the province. They have we're here for two weeks, and we have asked and received a one-week extension for them to remain with us, to continue their efforts,' SPSA Vice President of Operations Steve Roberts said in a media briefing Wednesday afternoon. As of Wednesday afternoon, 81 active wildfires were burning in the province, with only seven considered contained, according to the SPSA. This year, the province has battled a total of 448 wildfires, surpassing the five-year average of 354 and impacting about 2.3 million hectares of land. 'So overall, so far this year, very busy. At this point in time, 2.3 million hectares have been impacted by wildfire. So far this year, currently, there are four highways impacted for travel. That's highway 955, north of La Loche, Highway 914 to Pinehouse, Highway 918 from Beauval to Patuanak, and Highway 916, which travels across the northern part of Prince Albert National Park.' According to SPSA, out-of-province resources are still in Saskatchewan fighting the wildfire, including teams from Quebec, Mexico, Australia, British Columbia, Ontario, and Prince Edward Island. Roberts says 13 communities remain under evacuation order with 3,000 people displaced. The number of structures impacted this year totals 2,160, with two additional ones in the past two weeks.
