Italy Honors Royal Archives' Head for Promoting Morocco-Italy Cultural Dialogue
The Director of the Royal Archives of Morocco, Bahija Simou, has been awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her contribution to the promotion of heritage and Moroccan-Italian cultural dialogue. The insignia were presented to Simou by the Italy's Ambassador to Morocco Armando Barucco, on behalf of the President, on the occasion of Italy's National Day celebration. According to Barucco, this prestigious award—of which only ten are awarded each year—pays tribute to a remarkable and exceptional contribution to the promotion of Moroccan historical heritage, as well as to the significant development of scientific and cultural exchanges between Morocco and Italy. An internationally recognized historian, Simou has distinguished herself through her rigorous work on political and diplomatic relations between Morocco and Italy, as evidenced by numerous landmark publications. As a member of the Strategic Council of the Italian foundation Leonardo MedOr, Simou plays a key role in Euro-Mediterranean academic forums, actively working to preserve collective memory. On this occasion, she praised "the strong symbolism" of this award, emphasizing that her research on Italy highlights "the geopolitical importance of both Morocco and Italy within the Euro-Mediterranean space." She also recalled the historical depth of bilateral relations, which date back to the 12th century. After Italian unification, Morocco adopted a friendly stance toward Italy, which, following Morocco's independence, became one of the Kingdom's first economic partners. Italy was also the first European country visited by the late His Majesty Mohammed V. Simou noted that this award "does not only crown a personal journey, but also affirms a commitment to a living, inclusive history—one that resists oblivion and brings to light memories long kept in the shadows." France Thanks Morocco Over Arrest of Man Behind Crypto-Related Kidnappings
Rabat – France thanked Morocco today, stressing the country's importance as a strategic ally in security following the arrest of a suspect behind a series of recent crypto-related kidnappings in France. French Minister of Justice Gerald Darmanin conveyed his country's gratitude in a statement on X, where he 'sincerely thanks Morocco for this arrest.' He said this 'demonstrates the excellent judicial cooperation between our two countries, particularly in the fight against organized crime.' Earlier today, a joint operation by national judicial police in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) enabled security services to arrest a French-Moroccan national. A statement from the police indicated that the suspect is thought to be involved in crimes related to kidnapping with extortion, ransom demands targeting cryptocurrency users, as well as money laundering operations as part of an international crime network operating in France. The arrest took place in Tangier, falling within Moroccan security services' efforts to tackle insecurity. Police arrested the suspect after receiving a formal complaint from French security services detailing the alleged criminal acts the suspect committed in the European country. DGSN stressed in a statement today that the security operation is part of ongoing and intensive efforts by the national police to combat transnational organized crime and to deny criminals a safe haven or a legitimate operating base in Morocco. Many countries, including France, have highlighted Morocco's assistance on the security front. In April, French Interior Minister Bruno Retalleau described Morocco as a 'precious partner' in security matters. 'We are witnessing a renewed energy in our bilateral relationship, one that extends across multiple fields, including security,' Retailleau said during his visit to Morocco in April. He also pointed to joint cooperation between Moroccan and French authorities, including the arrest of several major drug traffickers wanted by French authorities.

Franco Mastantuono: The Argentine Wonderkid Pitching PSG against Real Madrid
River Plate's midfielder Franco Mastantuono has become one of South America's most closely watched prospects, drawing interest from European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. Real Madrid's chief scout, Juni Calafat, travelled to Buenos Aires this week for discussions with River Plate executives and Mastantuono's entourage, with Los Blancos prepared to activate his $45 million release clause. Madrid's plan would allow the Argentine to remain at River Plate until the end of the year, as they did in 2023 with the Arda Güler transfer saga. The 17-year-old midfielder, who has scored 7 goals and 4 assists in 19 appearances this season, has also received his first call-up to the Argentina squad for World Cup qualifying fixtures in June. Meanwhile, reliable sports journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that PSG is also pushing to secure Mastantuono's signature. PSG believes it can leverage its recent European success to convince the young midfielder who has expressed a preference for the French club. Mastantuono was born in Azul, Buenos Aires Province. He signed his first professional contract with River Plate in August 2023, which included a €45 million release clause. River Plate's youth manager Martín Pellegrino has praised Mastantuono's left-footed versatility: 'He can operate as a forward, an 'enganche' or a playmaker.' Assistant coach Pablo Fernández also said: 'His prowess in one-on-one situations and dead-ball scenarios. Mastantuono cites Julián Álvarez, Phil Foden, and Neymar as inspirations for his dynamic, free-flowing style.' As both Real Madrid and PSG seek his signature, Mastantuono seems destined to follow in the footsteps of Julian Alvarez, Diego Maradona, Carlos Tevez, and Sergio Agüero, potentially securing a high-profile move to Europe in January 2026.
