SPARTANBURG, S.C. (WSPA) – A search for a suspect is underway following an officer-involved crash Saturday night in Spartanburg.
Before midnight, officers with the Spartanburg Police Department were coordinating to stop a vehicle reported stolen that had alerted the FLOCK camera at Union Street and County Club Road.
Police said the vehicle was a gray Nissan Altima that fit the description of a suspected car in a reported shooting under the investigation of the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office.
Officers attempted to box the vehicle in at a red light near the intersection of Marion Avenue and South Church Street. One of the officers exited their vehicle, presented their firearm and began giving verbal commands, according to police.
Authorities said the driver of the Nissan then reportedly drove into the front passenger side of the patrol vehicle to escape law enforcement.
Shortly after the crash, officers located the Nissan in another crash down an embankment near West Hampton Avenue and Timothy Street.
Officers were able to identify the driver as James Byrd, who allegedly fled from the scene prior to police arrival. Police said they are seeking arrest warrants for possession of a stolen vehicle and blue light violation for the suspect.
The SC Highway Patrol was requested to investigate the incident due to the officer-involved collision.

What was the police response on Pioneer Monday in Puyallup? Here's what we know

Two men are in custody and one is on the loose after an early-morning burglary in Bonney Lake, according to police. Mark Berry, police chief for the Bonney Lake Police Department, told The News Tribune the burglary happened at a local pharmacy at about 3:20 a.m. on Monday. When The News Tribune asked him for the name of the pharmacy, he declined to answer but said it is in the area of 204th Avenue East and state Route 410. Berry said the suspects were three men. When police showed up at the pharmacy, they saw one of the men flee out the window and the two other men drive away in a white SUV, he said. Berry said investigators used the city's Flock license plate camera system 'to identify the suspect vehicle and put that information out.' A K9 from the Puyallup Police Department found the three men driving at 13th Street Southeast and Pioneer Way East in Puyallup, Berry said. The three men then ran out of the car and officers used a drone and a K9 to find two of the suspects, who are now in custody. The third is still at large. 'After a search warrant on the vehicle, we recovered several bags of stolen prescription narcotics from the pharmacy, as well as burglary tools,' Berry said. 'We are currently working with other agencies in the area who have reported similar burglaries.' Berry said the third man was last seen wearing all-black clothing and a mask.
