Sabah Youths Urged To Choose TVET As Primary Option, Not An Alternative
He said TVET now plays a significant role in the state's economic and social development, in line with technological transformation and current industrial needs.
'TVET not only equips individuals with practical skills, but it is also synonymous with empowerment, employment opportunities, and economic growth,' he said in his speech for the Launch Ceremony of the Sabah TVET Council (MTS) here today.
The text of his speech was read out by Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.
Hajiji said the TVET courses currently offered have been tailored to the needs of the job market and the rapidly developing industrial sector, making it a stable and viable career path for young people.
'I urge the youth of this state not to hesitate in joining the TVET field. Now is the time to shift perceptions and see TVET as a smart choice that opens doors to becoming professionals, entrepreneurs, and innovators,' he said.
According to him, the Sabah TVET Council launched today is the Sabah government's commitment to strengthening the technical training ecosystem, coordinating over 160 TVET institutions across the state, and ensuring that every graduate produced is truly ready to face the challenges of the working world.
He said TVET is also seen as a key driver for the state's development goals through the Sabah Maju Jaya 2.0 Development Blueprint and strategic national documents such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 2030), the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP 2030), and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR).
Hajiji also touched on the current wave of technological revolution, including artificial intelligence (AI), which requires the younger generation to be equipped with new, adaptive, and innovation-oriented skills.

Ringgit rises against major currencies, eases vs US dollar
KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit appreciated against most major currencies but eased slightly against the greenback at the close on Wednesday amid cautious market sentiments ahead of the release of the US Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes later tonight. At 6 pm, the local note dipped to 4.2250/2290 against the US dollar from yesterday's close of 4.2215/2255. Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd chief economist Dr Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid said that apart from the minutes, comments by senior US central bank officials will also come into focus after the release of the FOMC details. "Markets are anxious about whether the US Federal Reserve (Fed) will deliver a 25 basis points interest rate cut in the upcoming FOMC meeting,' he told Bernama. Afzanizam said last week's US consumer price index and producer price index dynamics suggested that the Fed might continue to focus on inflation, but noted that the weak labour market warranted additional monetary stimulus. In addition, the market sentiment will stay guarded ahead of policy signals from the Fed's Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium later this week. At the close, the ringgit settled mostly higher against a basket of major currencies. It gained versus the euro to 4.9196/9242 from 4.9307/9354 yesterday and inched up against the British pound to 5.7033/7087 from 5.7066/7120, but dropped vis-à-vis the Japanese yen to 2.8648/8677 from 2.8572/8601. The ringgit also traded mostly higher against other ASEAN currencies. It gained versus the Singapore dollar to 3.2864/2898 from 3.2901/2935 at Tuesday's close, strengthened against the Thai baht to 12.9756/9935 from 12.9848/13.0027 and inched up vis-à-vis the Indonesian rupiah to 259.6/260.0 from 259.8/260.2. New Early Childhood Education Act On The Way
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- A new act on early childhood education will be introduced to ensure comprehensive and effective regulation, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. She said it is among the education reform strategies outlined under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) aimed at strengthening governance in the country's education system. 'Governance at all levels of learning from preschool, primary, secondary and up to pre-university will be strengthened to enhance the effectiveness of service delivery more comprehensively,' she said during her winding-up speech on the 13MP for the Ministry of Education (MOE) in the Dewan Rakyat today. She added that MOE will also introduce the 2026 Preschool Curriculum, based on the 2027 School Curriculum Framework, emphasising character building, self-confidence, love, and resilience through age-appropriate experiential learning. 'In line with this, the national preschool curriculum will be made mandatory for all early childhood education institutions, with emphasis on human dignity values, character formation, critical thinking and life skills,' she said. 'To achieve this, enforcement of the Education Act 1996 will be strengthened,' she said. Meanwhile, Fadhlina said MOE remains committed to maintaining the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) as an internationally recognised pre-university qualification. 'With about 50,000 to 55,000 enrolments annually, various measures are being and will continue to be implemented to attract SPM graduates, particularly through the Form Six Education Roadmap 2024-2030,' she said. The roadmap focuses on five key areas - image branding, infrastructure enhancement, administrative improvements, more flexible teaching and learning, and a curriculum benchmarked against international standards such as A-Levels.

Communications Ministry To Conduct Study On Music Industry Development, Issues And Challenges
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Communications is implementing a Music Industry Development Study to examine issues, challenges and proposed action plans towards empowering the sustainable and dynamic development of the Malaysian music industry. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the study is also refining business models, governance, staffing and specific laws that can support the development of the industry. 'For music, we currently do not have a specific act, therefore the ministry is looking into the best way to ensure that an act is drafted to ensure the welfare, sustainability and development of the music industry. 'We are looking into it and this study also takes into account the views and input of music industry players through the Music Industry Protem Committee,' he said when winding up the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) motion for the Ministry of Communications at the Dewan Rakyat today. He said a total of 20 members of the Music Industry Protem Committee had been appointed, from various fields including composers, lyricists, recording companies or studios, singers, musicians, Collective Management Organisations (CMOs), publishing companies, association representatives, academicians and event management. Fahmi said the results of the study would be used as input in determining the availability and need for a specific body to regulate the development of the music industry or to include the music industry in the functions of existing agencies or regulatory bodies. Regarding the proposed amendments to the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia Act (Finas) 1981 (Act 244), Fahmi said it is expected to be tabled in the upcoming Parliament meeting scheduled for this October. He said the process of improving the act includes expanding the scope of regulation, governance, functions and enforcement aspects of the act. Among the proposed amendments under Act 244 is related to the membership of Finas Corporation Members, which falls under the scope of governance which aims to improve the membership structure so that it consists of experienced local film industry players, has an excellent record of achievement in the field of local film and has credibility in fighting for the welfare of industry players.
