Ed Sheeran says he identifies culturally as Irish

The Galway Girl singer, 34, who was brought up in Suffolk, has a large Irish family and said he would spend his holidays in the country as a child.
'I class my culture as Irish. I think that's what I grew up with,' he told The Louis Theroux Podcast.
'My mum's family is very, very small, it's her and her parents, and my dad's family is… he's got seven brothers and sisters.
'We'd spend all of our holidays in Ireland. My first musical experiences were in Ireland, I grew up with trad music in the house. So I identify culturally as Irish, but I was obviously born and raised in Britain.
'I do feel like my culture is something that I'm really proud of and grew up with and want to express.
'And I feel like just because I was born in Britain doesn't necessarily mean that I have to just be (British), there's loads of people I know that are half this or quarter this.'
He added: 'I don't think there's any rules to it. It should be how you feel and how you were raised and what you lean into.'
Asked if he gets 'a lot of love' in Ireland, he said: 'I'd say it's basically my second home musically. I'd say Ireland is the place that I am most successful musically.'
Sheeran previously told BBC Radio 4's Desert Island Discs that he has Irish family and spent most of his childhood summers, birthdays and Christmases in the country.
Also on the podcast, Sheeran reflected on the drawbacks of fame and said he is 'really sensitive' to people taking pictures of his children.

'My first daughter, six weeks after she was born, we hadn't sent any photos of her whatsoever, but there was paparazzi outside our house that got a photo of her, and it was in the paper and I just found it weird that some strange old man that I'd never met was the only person with an image of my kid on their device.
'It's a strange trade-off because, obviously, to be successful in the music industry, you end up being rich, famous and successful, and those things are things that people go, 'Well, that's the trade-off.'
'But my kids have not signed up to that, and I find it weird that it's normal to take pictures of other people's children if they're famous.'
Sheeran is married to Cherry Seaborn and the couple have two children.
The four-time Grammy-winning singer also revealed that he does not own a private jet and likes to travel via train.
'I like the environment, I like trees. I'd find it hard to justify. No one's perfect. When we're doing intense promo trips, there will be the odd time', he told Theroux.

Dakota Johnson shares Chris Martin's reaction to her dream about British singer

Actress Dakota Johnson has revealed her dream about The 1975's Matty Healy, which saw the singer morphing into a vegetable to dodge the police, with Chris Martin's reaction Newly single Dakota Johnson has revealed her ex Chris Martin's brilliant reaction to her wacky dream about singer Matty Healy. The Fifty Shades of Grey actress, 35, and the Coldplay frontman, 48, recently ended their romantic relationship after eight years together. Chatting with comedian Amy Poehler, Dakota recalled having a bizarre dream about The 1975 hitmaker. "I actually had a dream the other night," Dakota told host Amy during the latest episode of the Good Hang podcast. "Matty Healy from The 1975 was in my dream and he was murdering people, and he was Matty Healy as himself." ‌ Dakota, who recently enjoyed a dinner date with Matty's ex Taylor Swift, then went on to note how the dream got even stranger, with her dream version of Matty morphing into a vegetable to dodge the police. "When the people were looking for him—they were cops maybe," Dakota continued, "he would turn into a piece of asparagus." ‌ If that wasn't weird enough, an Oscar-winning actress then entered the dream. "I saw these two poles and a bed and I was like, 'Matty?'" Dakota said. "The sheets came down and it was him as an asparagus and Angelina Jolie as an asparagus. They were getting married, and they left in a helicopter together as asparagus." The next morning, Dakota shared her wild dream with her then-boyfriend Chris. The Fix You songwriter was fascinated by Dakota's subconscious, telling her: "That's a really good pitch for a movie." Dakota and Chris reportedly split over his reluctance to set a wedding date. . Insiders allege that the frustration stemming from this hesitancy contributed to the end of their eight-year relationship, with 35 year old Dakota particularly "sick" that no date had been decided. The two became engaged years after their on-off romance took off in 2017, following the dad-of-two's split from his ex-wife, Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow. A source told Page Six: "She was sick of him dragging his feet on setting a date for the wedding." ‌ Others in Dakota and Chris' inner circle reckon disagreements on starting a family played a role too. Another insider claimed: "They broke up over Chris Martin not wanting to have more kids." While Dakota, unlike her former beau, has never tied the knot or had children, she has hinted at her desire for both. A confidant shared with The Sun, "They really tried to work through their issues but the age gap was often a problem. She'd [also] expressed that she may want children in the future, whereas Chris is kind of done with that part of his life." Following the news of the couple's split, an insider disclosed: "They just haven't been able to figure out to make it official. Dakota held a flame for them to be together because she loved him so much and loved his kids so much. "Breakups aren't instant and they continued to breakup and makeup and sometimes things would work when they were away from each other, while they were working because absence makes the heart grow fonder, but then they'd get back together and little things just kept adding up to where they weren't right for each other anymore... "Dakota is devastated that she isn't going to be around his kids as much anymore, but wants them to know that she is always there for them."

Ed Sheeran reveals intense safety measures he's taken to protect family

Ed Sheeran has revealed that he has 24-hour security at his Suffolk house after an attempted break-in. The singer, 34, has a sprawling estate in West Sussex, which is made up of five houses which he purchased in 2012. This is just one part of his large property portfolio reportedly worth £57 million, but the Suffolk home is where he resides with his wife and two daughters in what he calls Sheeranville. In a recent interview, the Castle on the Hill singer revealed that there are intense security measures at the property, ensuring his family's safety. 'I do think that there is a different kind of normal that is our business. I have like 24-hour security on my house. I have security with my kids. 'I have security with me. I have security with my wife, just because there have been a couple of weird things over the years that have happened,' he said on The Louis Theroux Podcast. He clarified that this practice was completely normal in the music industry because of the 'dangerous people' out there and a recent break-in attempt. 'Just so you know, there are lots of dangerous people out there. We've had like you know, a break-in attempt. 'In my industry, that's normal. That's kind of like an underlying thing that no one really talks about, but that is kind of a part of being in the public eye.' Ed married his childhood friend Cherry Seaborn in 2018 after the pair began dating in 2015. The couple had children just a couple of years after tying the knot withLyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran, born in 2020, and Jupiter Seaborn Sheeran, born in 2022. While in conversation with Louis, Ed also spoke about his children's privacy as he explained why fans will rarely see images of his two daughters. 'I'm very, very private about my children's image … I can't take them to zoos or parks or anything really without someone trying to film them. 'There are times where the normal parts of life I kind of mourn for and wish I could push my kid on a swing in a public park and it not be weird, you know?' He added that his children had not 'signed up' to being famous: 'People go, well that's the trade-off. But my kids have not signed up to that.' This isn't the first time the Shape of You singer has spoken about the tough parts of fame, explaining previously that he locked himself at home when he found the public scrutiny too intense. More Trending In 2017, he told The Sun: 'I stayed inside for four months. I just ordered food in and watched movies. 'I couldn't just go out and get a pint of milk. I always wanted to maintain normality – being able to go to the pub or go and do a gig. 'I just stopped going out, instead I was ordering takeaways and putting on a lot of weight. I hadn't got any balance, so I just stayed inside.' Got a story?
