'Thank You MS Dhoni': Months After Expressing Gratitude, R Ashwin Set To Leave CSK?

Is Ravichandran Ashwin on his way out of Chennai Super Kings just one season after making an emotional return?
Speculations are rife over the future of Ravichandran Ashwin at Chennai Super Kings with multiple reports claiming that the veteran cricket has had conversations with the franchise on his role going forward. As per a report, Ashwin has made up his mind on leaving the five-time champions ahead of the IPL mini auction expected to be held in December.
Should he part ways, the 38-year-old will also likely quit as Director of Operations at the CSK Academy.
The offspinner, who retired from international cricket last year, was bought up CSK for Rs 9.75 crore as he returned to his old stomping ground having represented the five-time champions from 2009 to 2015.
The comeback was emotional but CSK's and Ashwin's own performances were not up to the mark. While the seasoned campaigner managed 7 wickets from 9 games, CSK finished last in the standings.
The rumours of Ashwin's CSK exit are surprising considering how he had reacted after being re-signed by the team at the two-day IPL mega auction last year.
'It feels like it's 2011 again," said Ashwin during an event in March this year. 'It was nice to go around and get a flavour of what it is like everywhere. You learn a lot, but one thing that really stands out is that CSK has remained a team that's evolved, yet at the same time, remained an archive."
'Today, in the world of cricket corporatisation, there's nobody who runs a business to make a loss – I understand that. But things have evolved, and teams have changed so much. Coming here (to CSK) again, I realise it hasn't changed one bit since I left in 2015. The fact is, it is organically cricket. The best way to run a cricket team and achieve success is to keep it cricket-oriented," he added.
Ashwin proceeded to thank CSK legend and former captain MS Dhoni for the gift of getting him back to the team.
I invited MS for my 100th Test to hand over the memento. I wanted to make that my last Test. Unfortunately, he couldn't come, but I didn't think you'd hand over the gift of getting me back to CSK. It's a much better one, so thank you MS," Ashwin had said.

Trump Signs Executive Order Extending Tariff Truce Deadline With China By 90 Days

The executive order was issued a day after President Trump urged China to significantly increase its purchases of US soybeans. US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order on Monday, extending the tariff truce deadline with China by 90 days, Reuters reported, citing a White House official. The order follows high-level talks between top officials from both countries, who met in Stockholm in July to explore the possibility of shifting the deadline to reach a negotiated agreement on tariffs. A White House official confirmed the latest decision, which came just hours before US tariffs on Chinese goods were due to revert to triple-digit rates. The previously agreed tariff truce between Beijing and Washington was scheduled to expire at 00:01 ET on Tuesday. The executive order, signed on Monday, was issued a day after President Trump urged China to significantly increase its purchases of US soybeans by as much as fourfold. At the same time, Washington has been pressuring Beijing to halt imports of Russian oil, with Trump warning of potential secondary tariffs on Chinese entities found violating the directive. When asked by reporters during a press conference on Monday whether he intended to extend the deadline, Trump responded, 'We'll see what happens. They've been dealing quite nicely. The relationship is very good with President Xi (Jinping) and myself." Without the order being passed, US tariffs on Chinese goods would have surged by 145%, while Chinese tariffs on American goods were set to rise to 125%. At present, imports from China into the US are subject to a 30% tariff, which includes a 10% base rate and an additional 20% imposed in relation to fentanyl-related policy measures. These rates were implemented by Washington earlier this year, between February and March. In response, China currently levies a 10% tariff on goods imported from the US. Both nations have made repeated efforts in recent months to reach a consensus on tariff policy, following the imposition of reciprocal triple-digit tariffs. In May, during a meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, the two sides agreed on a temporary truce, initiating a 90-day period for continued negotiations. They met again in Stockholm, Sweden, in late July, although no official extension was announced at the time. However, both parties described the talks as constructive, signalling the possibility of a truce extension. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
