Brentford boss Keith Andrews does not know how Yoane Wissa's transfer situation will play out. Wissa was not involved in Sunday's Premier League opener at Nottingham Forest, where the Bees went down to a 3-1 defeat. The 28-year-old wants to follow Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard out of the club during the summer transfer window, with Newcastle strongly linked with a bid, and Andrews said before the match he was not in the right head space to play. 'We weren't really aware he would be available, as soon as we knew it was a pretty easy decision to get him on board. 'Thankfully the club have been able to do that and it is a really significant investment for us. It will be a brilliant investment.' Forest made a mockery of Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-match worries. Nuno expressed his 'concern' for the campaign ahead of the match, citing a lack of options in his squad. After new signings Omari Hutchinson and James McAtee were unveiled before kick-off, their new team-mates put on a show. But Nuno says the display does not change Forest's situation, with Arnaud Kalimuendo having a medical ahead of a move from Rennes and links to Juventus' Douglas Luiz and Manchester City's Rico Lewis. Housing project paused amid lead pollution fears
A proposed 3,500-home housing development in Gravesham, Kent, has been paused due to concerns over dangerous lead pollution from an adjacent refinery. Britannia Refined Metals (BRM), the refinery owner, claims the site is a "lead pollution hotspot" and warns there is "no safe level for exposure to lead", particularly for children. Developers Northfleet Harbourside dismiss these warnings, arguing the scheme and refinery can coexist and that the project is vital for addressing the national housing crisis on brownfield land. The project, which includes commercial space, a hotel, and a football stadium, was initially granted planning permission but is now under review following a planning inquiry. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will make a final decision on the controversial development after the inquiry delivers its findings.

Developer given green light to remove hedgerows in Ilminster
One of the UK's largest housebuilders has secured approval to remove large sections of hedgerow ahead of putting forward revised plans for 360 new homes at a nature reserve in Homes was granted planning permission in January 2024 to build homes near the Meadows Surgery, in Canal Way in Ilminster. The development site was designated as a nature reserve by South Somerset District Council in July 2018.A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes said the company would work with the council to "meet our shared goals of taking on the housing crisis with real action, leaving a positive and lasting legacy in Ilminster". The Exeter-based developer submitted plans in June for the access arrangements, which involved removing 120 metres (393ft) of hedges and changing the layout of the surgery's car park. Persimmon said the new development would deliver a biodiversity net gain of 10%, in line with government to the plans, the developer will maximise hedgerow retention, plant additional hedgerows and monitor and manage wildlife said dormouse boxes would be provided and 1.6 hectares (16,000 sq metres) of woodland would be planted. The spokesperson added: "In addition to these ecological enhancements and meeting housing need in the area... we are investing nearly £3.5m in community infrastructure as part of our plans for Ilminster."Persimmon is due to submit the detailed planning application in September, the Local Democracy Reporting Service Council is then expected to make a decision on the development within months.
