Soderstrom hits grand slam, 2-run HR to help Athletics beat Twins 14-3 and snap 9-game skid
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Tyler Soderstrom hit a grand slam and a two-run homer, Max Muncy hit a three-run shot in the first inning, and the Athletics beat the Minnesota Twins 14-3 on Thursday to snap a nine-game losing streak.
Brent Rooker had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs for the Athletics.
David Festa (0-1), who was recalled earlier Thursday from Triple-A St. Paul, pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up seven runs for Minnesota. Jorge Alcala came on after Lawrence Butler drew a two-out walk in the fourth and gave up a single to Jacob Wilson, before Rooker walked and Soderstrom's slam made it 11-0.
Mitch Spence (2-1) gave up a run on three hits over five innings for the Athletics.
Wilson hit a lead-off homer before Soderstrom's two-run shot made it 7-0 in the third.
Matt Wallner hit a solo shot in the fourth and Ty France and Brooks Lee each added an RBI single in the seventh. Infielder Jonah Bride made his MLB pitching debut and gave up two runs in two innings.
Shea Langeliers left the game due to an injury after he fouled off a pitch in the sixth inning.

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The Athletics placed catcher Shea Langeliers on the 10-day injured list Friday with a strained left oblique. He got hurt during Thursday's 14-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins, grabbing his left side during an at-bat in the sixth inning. The A's called up catcher Jhonny Pereda and outfielder Seth Brown from Triple-A Las Vegas and designated outfielder Drew Avans for assignment. Langeliers is batting .237 with 10 homers and 27 RBIs, but he has been in a slump with a .172 average over his past 18 games. Haaland scores again as Norway crushes Italy in World Cup qualifier and Croatia cruises
Erling Haaland scored and Norway humbled Italy 3-0 for the first time in 25 years in qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on Friday. Haaland collected a through ball from playmaker Martin Odegaard and rounded goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the box for the third goal three minutes before halftime. It was his 41st goal in his 42nd match for Norway to the delight of the spectators at Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo, including King Harald V of Norway. Haaland also scored when Moldova was beaten 5-0 and Israel 4-2. Norway remained perfect in qualifying after three games in Europe Group I. Striker Alexander Sorloth received a precise pass from Antonio Nusa then beat Donnarumma with a left foot shot.
