'Glad it's over' Texas HC Jim Schlossnagle is relieved to get past Game 1 vs Texas A&M
Texas A&M (24-17, 8-11 SEC) lost to No. 1 Texas on the road in Game 1 on Friday night. The Aggies could only muster one run off a late error, losing 2-1 in a pitching duel that saw both starters on the mound last nearly six innings. However, the emotions surrounding Texas head coach Jim Schlossnagle facing his former team were one of the national stories of the week.
Schlossnagle's departure from College Station after three seasons was controversial, to say the least. The former longtime TCU head coach shared a close friendship with current Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte, who previously held the same position in Fort Worth during Schlossnagle's tenure.
While leaving for other jobs isn't shocking, Schlossnagle's decision to join the program's fiercest rival just days after losing in the College World Series Championship game has turned the veteran coach into a villain for the Aggie fan base.
Still, we're talking about sports, and if we're being honest, none of this was surprising given Texas's legacy and Schlossnagle's friendship with Del Conte. With Game 2 set for late Saturday afternoon, the focus should be on baseball, which Schlossnagle echoed during his post-game press conference.
'Awesome to get the win. Glad it's over, tomorrow should be a little bit easier. Not playing an easier team, but, personally for me it'll be a little bit easier.'
Texas A&M coach Michael Earley had a similar reaction, noting that the next two games will be a "dog fight" that will require poise on the mound and power at the plate. Both teams have proven that they belong on the same field.
Texas A&M vs. No. 1 Texas will face off at 3:00 p.m. CT. on Saturday, April 26. The game will air on ESPN2.

The 24-year-old entered Friday's game against the Minnesota Twins, slashing .185/.241/.185 with three RBI over 10 contests. Advertisement The Astros selected Melton No. 64 overall in the 2022 MLB Draft and hit .254 with two homers, seven RBI, and three stolen bases for Triple-A Sugar Land before getting his first MLB call-up on June 1. However, the 6-foot-3-inch, 208-pounder didn't notch an extra-base hit before Friday. To make matters worse, Melton left Friday's game with an injury, via Brian McTaggart. Rangers' Corey Seager set for injury return after missing 16 games
The post Rangers' Corey Seager set for injury return after missing 16 games appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Texas Rangers lost shortstop Corey Seager to his second hamstring injury in the span of a month when the five-time All-Star hit the 10-day IL with the nagging strain on May 11. Now it appears the Rangers believe Seager has had enough time to heal. Advertisement Texas has activated Seager from the injured list, according to Kennedi Landry. And he'll be back in the Rangers' lineup Wednesday night as the team's DH, per Jeff Wilson on X. Seager initially injured his hamstring on April 23, landing on the 10-day IL. The Rangers activated him when he was first eligible on May 3 but he ended up hobbled again shortly thereafter. Can Corey Seager lead the Rangers back to the playoffs? Kevin Jairaj-Imagn Images Following his second stint on the injured list in such a short time, the Rangers planned on being cautious with Seager, refusing to rush the 11th-year veteran back before he was fully healed. Manager Bruce Bochy made it clear that, even though Seager was eligible to be activated last week, the team would wait another seven to 10 days before taking him off the IL this time around. Advertisement The Rangers are hoping a more cautious approach to the injury will allow Seager to avoid any setbacks. When he has been able to play this season, the two-time World Series MVP has been productive at the plate. Seager is slashing .300/.346/.520 with six home runs, 12 RBI, 15 runs scored, a 148 OPS+ and 1.6 bWAR in 26 games. However, the Rangers have struggled without the veteran. The team is just 3-8 over its last 11 games including a six-game losing streak. Yet despite the recent skid, Texas remains in striking distance in the AL West. The Rangers are 27-29 on the season and 4.5 games behind the first-place Seattle Mariners in the division. The team missed the playoffs last year, following their surprise World Series victory in 2023. If the Rangers hope to rebound and reach the postseason this year, they'll need a healthy Seager to help lead the way.
