Pakistan hackers target armed forces' sites
NEW DELHI: There has been an increase in cyberattacks emanating from Pakistan, as ceasefire violations by small arms fire continue along the Line of Control (LoC) for the last six days following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Pakistan-based cyber actors have tried to deface pages and harvest personal information from a few welfare and educational websites of the armed forces, which are publicly accessible, but prompt restorative action was taken to isolate and thwart the attempts.
This came after Pakistan-based hackers, operating under the moniker "
IOK Hacker
- Internet of Khilafah", sought to deface pages, disrupt on-line services and harvest personal information from websites and portals run by the Army Welfare Housing Organisation, IAF Placement Organisation, Army Public Schools at Srinagar and Ranikhet. "India's cyber-security architecture detected the intrusions in real time and quickly traced their origin to Pakistan. All the websites under attack were promptly isolated and restorative action was undertaken. No operational or classified networks were affected," he said.

Modelling choreographer arrested for raping woman on false marriage promise
Thiruvananthapuram: Kazhakkoottam police on Sunday arrested a Kozhikode-based modelling choreographer for allegedly raping a techie working at the Technopark on a false marriage promise. The arrested person was identified by police as Fahid, 27, of Thiruvambadi. Police arrested the accused in Kozhikode and discovered several nude photographs of other women stored on his mobile phone. Police said the accused got acquainted with the woman, who is also into modelling, last year during an event. The accused also defrauded lakhs of rupees from the women. According to the complaint, the accused after promising to marry the woman took her to several hotels and sexually exploited her. "The rape took place in Feb, March and April 2024. Later he withdrew from the relationship. In the meantime, after the woman's parents intervened in the issue the accused conveyed his willingness to marry her to the parents as well. However, he withdrew from the marriage and it led her to a state of depression," said police. The woman decided to approach the police after discovering that the accused was involved with several other women as well. The complainant also produced proof of money transferred to the accused's account on several occasions. The accused even blocked the woman on his mobile and social media profiles, police said. The accused was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days after being produced before a court as per Section 376 (2) of the IPC for rape.

Anti-Drugs Agency Freezes Assets Worth 9 Crores In Crackdown on Narco-Financing
The anti-drugs agency or the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has secured the freezing of immovable properties worth Rs 9.20 crore linked to a major amphetamine trafficking case, coming down heavily on narco-financing. The assets were attached under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), 1985. The seized assets include a luxury apartment in Jaypee Greens and a factory unit in Kasna Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, all allegedly purchased using proceeds from international synthetic drug trafficking. The seizure is part of a wider investigation stemming from a joint operation conducted by the NCB and the Delhi Police Special Cell in October 2024, which led to the busting of a clandestine Amphetamine lab in Gautam Budh Nagar and the seizure of 95.501 kilograms of the drug in both solid and liquid forms. Sources said the mastermind, a Delhi-based businessman, was operating the lab with help from four others - including a Tihar Jail warden and a Mexican national. All five accused were arrested and remain in judicial custody. The probe has further revealed that the lab's financing was backed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) - a notorious Mexican drug cartel. The syndicate routed funds through cryptocurrency to Dubai, which were later delivered to New Delhi via hawala in three instalments. Officials said the property attachment marks a significant step in choking the financial networks of transnational drug syndicates. "This case exemplifies NCB's commitment to identifying and dismantling the ecosystem of drug trafficking," a senior officer said. The agency has also appealed to citizens to support its anti-narcotics efforts. Any individual with information related to drug sale or trafficking can call the MANAS - National Narcotics Helpline at 1933. The identity of the caller is kept confidential.

BJP irked over Operation Sindoor's omission in draft motion to be placed in Bengal Assembly
The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit, on Sunday, criticised the omission of the term 'Operation Sindoor' in the draft motion to be moved for discussion in the Assembly this week "to condemn the killing of 26 tourists at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22" and to "commend the coordinated efforts of the different wings of the Indian Armed Forces" as a retaliatory action. The Monsoon session of the Assembly will resume on Monday and on Tuesday, the motion will be moved for a two-hour discussion. However, the draft of the motion, which was finalised at the meeting of the Assembly's business advisory committee, had irked the BJP, since the term "Operation Sindoor" is missing there. "The Indian Armed Forces are the country's pride and their successful operation against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir was named as 'Operation Sindoor'. So the missing mention of the term 'Operation Sindoor' means an insult to the same armed forces," said a member of the BJP's legislative team in West Bengal. Asked to comment on this matter, BJP's chief whip in the state Assembly Shankar Ghosh said that those responsible for drafting the motion proposal do not have the minimum knowledge about the Indian Armed Forces and on what basis the names of the different operations by the security forces are named. "The details of the matter will be elaborated on the floor of the House by the Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari. But all I can say is that lack of knowledge is evident from the drafting of the motion," Ghosh added. After the motion is moved for discussion on Tuesday, the Leader of the Opposition will rise and demand the inclusion of the term "Operation Sindoor" in the motion to pay homage to the Indian armed forces. Since the motion would be moved by the Assembly Speaker Biman Bandopadhya himself, no one in Trinamool Congress was ready to speak on this controversy. "Since the motion is the Assembly Speaker's initiative, it will not be fair on our part to comment on it," said a senior member of the state Cabinet. The Assembly Speaker himself said the proceedings of the House cannot be conducted as per the whims of the BJP's legislative team. He, however, added that the BJP legislators participating in the discussion on the motion will be free to express their views on the matter. Last month, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the name of 'Operation Sindoor' was politically motivated. She also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of marketing the people's sentiments over Sindoor for political gains. Her comments attracted strong criticism from the BJP leaders, who accused the Chief Minister of echoing the narratives of Pakistan through such statements.
