PETALING JAYA : Akmal Nasir, who was ousted as Johor Bahru PKR chief at the recent party election, will appeal the poll results on grounds of irregularities.
Akmal claimed that he had failed to retain his post while those aligned with him had won, describing it as 'odd'.
In a post on X, he claimed that 10 of the 20 who had been elected to the division's committee were from his camp.
A similar outcome was also observed in the youth and women's wings, he said.
'An objection has been filed with the central election committee,' he said in a post on X.
Akmal, the deputy energy transition and water transformation minister, failed to defend his post as Johor Bahru PKR chief, winning just 587 votes.
The two-term Johor Bahru MP lost to Taufiq Ismail, who garnered 709 votes.
Akmal however claimed that he had in fact garnered 949 votes, 'much more than the official count'.
He said his team had clear proof of the number of votes he had received, including voter lists with signatures, official Form 14s signed by polling station heads, and photos of the voting process.
His campaign manager, whom Akmal identified as Stanley, also made a statutory declaration to confirm the number of votes he received.
'I urge party members to remain calm as the objection is being reviewed by the election committee,' Akmal said.
Akmal, a former PKR Youth chief, became Johor Bahru PKR chief in 2014. He is currently the party's strategic director.
He is among the slew of prominent incumbent PKR divisional leaders who were recently ousted, as party members opted to elect lesser-known figures in the party's divisional elections.
Others include PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad who failed to defend his position as Setiawangsa PKR chief, and youth chief Adam Adli who suffered a heavy defeat when vying for the post of Hang Tuah Jaya PKR deputy chief.

Trump warns Musk against supporting Democrats

Published on: Sunday, June 08, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jun 08, 2025 By: Bernama Text Size: Trump (right) and Musk at the Oval Office. - Filepic by Reuters WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump warned tech billionaire Elon Musk of "very serious consequences" if he were to support Democrats in the future following their public falling-out, German news agency (dpa) reported. "He'll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that," Trump told NBC News in a phone interview set to air on Sunday. Advertisement However Trump declined to share what those consequences might be should Musk support Democratic candidates to harm Republicans who voted for the president's tax and budget bill. The budget bill this week triggered the public dispute between Musk, the world's richest man, and Trump, the world's most powerful one. Musk is demanding far greater spending cuts and called the bill "a disgusting abomination". Trump refers to it as the "big beautiful bill". Since Thursday, Musk and Trump have been engaged in an open mudslinging match after months of unusually close cooperation. Trump does not want to reconcile with Musk. Advertisement In the NBC interview, Trump was asked whether he believed his relationship with Musk, who owns the social media platform X, the electric car company Tesla, and the space voyage firm SpaceX, was over. "I would assume so, yeah," Trump said. He also reiterated that he was not interested in reconciling with Musk, saying he was too busy with other matters. "I have no intention of speaking to him." On Thursday, the brewing feud between the two powerful men exploded with Trump calling Musk "crazy" and Musk claiming that if it weren't for him, Trump would have lost the presidential election last year. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
