Inside Mariah Carey's sprawling $18 million hideaway

Daily Telegraph02-07-2025
A sprawling Connecticut estate that was once rented by Mariah Carey has been put on the market for $US12.4 million ($A18.8 million).
Now it can be revealed the common item the star refused to have in it.
In a bizarre interview with Summertime Ball, Carey revealed that she's never owned a clock because she doesn't 'acknowledge the passing of time.'
'I just don't believe in it – just time,' she told the shocked interviewees.
'So no clocks?' one of the panellists asked.
Carey responded 'yeah, let it go.'
The 56-year-old also said she did not celebrate her birthday however she still observed anniversaries.
'I don't have a birthday, no,' she said.
The New Canaan home where the 'Honey' singer lived for nearly two years, gives a rare glimpse into the life she once lived.
The mansion initially hit the market on March 28 for $US13.9 million ($A21.1 million).
But after struggling to sell, the price dropped by more than $US1 million ($A1.5 million) on June 1, Realtor reports.

Since then, celebrity real estate agent Ryan Serhant has helped spark a surge of interest in the dwelling.
The 'Owning Manhattan' star showcased the property on his YouTube channel.
Titling his video: 'An Exclusive Tour of Mariah Carey's MASSIVE Estate', Serhant took viewers on a full tour of the luxurious mansion.
Nicknamed Orchard's End, the pop sensation rented the dwelling for an eye-watering $US75,000 ($A114,000) a month for nearly two years.
The Grammy-winner is said to have written multiple songs while living there, including her upcoming 16th album and her verse in the remix of Muni Long's single, 'Made for Me.'
Serhant listing agents Danielle Malloy and Jessica Lane told Mansion Global that the star had moved out of the home in the beginning of 2025.
Situated on a 6.26-acre lot, the mansion boasts 12-bedrooms and 12.5-bathrooms.
According to its listing, the property underwent a significant $US6 million ($A9.1 million), three-year overhaul in 2014.
The current owners hired 'world-renowned architect' Dinyar Wadia, who expanded the main residence as well as a guesthouse that sits on the estate.
'The main residence [was] improved and expanded [with] a four-bedroom guesthouse, along with a custom designed 5,000-square-foot wellness centre, a custom pool with spa and new terraces [that] transformed Orchard's End into a true masterpiece.
'In a recent interview with Dinyar, he stated he believes in today's market the main house alone would cost in excess of 25 million dollars ($A38 million dollars) to replicate,' the listing adds.
The home's exterior is rightfully compared to a castle and is surrounded by lush greenery, while also boasting a tennis court and a resort-style pool.
Upon entering the homes, guests are greeted with an elegant dining area complete with a chic chandelier, moulded ceilings, an elegant fireplace, and several windows that allow for natural light to flood in.
There is also a grand piano by the window, which is sure to be the spot Carey belted out some tunes.
Another dining area boasts wood-beamed ceilings and a large table, while a third spot comes complete with cozy couches, custom shelves, and a fireplace.
The chef's kitchen is surely made for a star as it boasts a large island, plenty of cabinetry, state-of-the-art appliances, wood-beamed ceilings, and a gold stove.
An office space follows the same wooden aesthetic and features built-in shelving, a wooden desk, and a large window.
The estate is the perfect spot to entertain guests as it features several elegant areas to entertain guests and throw dinner parties.
Another room even comes complete with a pool table for when guests want to experience something more casual.
The master bedroom features a kingsize bed, large window, and a fireplace.
Attached, there is also a walk-in closet, complete with a large island and plenty of shelf space.
Meanwhile, the primary bathroom features a marble soaking tub and his-and-her vanities.
Upstairs, there is a large playroom with a basketball hoop game and more.
There is also a sauna, theatre room, and private gym on the grounds.

‘Bieber fever': Music playlists of world elite exposed

Vice President JD Vance is a big fan of the Backstreet Boys' 'I Want It That Way.' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gets pumped up with Beyonce's 'Run the World (Girls)' — and there's one very prominent politician who loves Nelly's 'Hot In Herre.' That's all according to the Panama Playlists — a site that quietly went live Wednesday and claims to reveal the private music tastes of a slew of public figures. 'I found the real Spotify accounts of celebrities, politicians, and journalists. 'Many use their real names. With a little sleuthing, I could say with near-certainty: yep, this is them,' the anonymous eavesdropper wrote. 'We've been scraping their accounts since summer 2024. 'Playlists, live listening feed, everything. I know what songs they played, when, and how many times,' they wrote, also stating the project has not affiliation with company 'Spotify.' The anonymous researcher told The Post that they became convinced in the authenticity of each account as the months of monitoring went on. 'I gained confidence in each person by looking at lots of signals. An example is Pam Bondi. Her longtime partner is John Wakefield, and her profile has an old playlist called 'john' and an old shared playlist with a user named 'John Wakefield,' so that gives me a lot of confidence it is her account.' 'Karoline Leavitt's profile has a playlist called 'Baby Shower,' and she had a baby a month after the playlist was made,' the owner of the website told The Post, emphasising they only collected publicly available information. It all seems to be a bit of summer fun, that reveals the questionable, ironic and sometimes too-on-the-nose music choices of America's rich and powerful. 'Heard of the Panama Papers? That exposed offshore bank accounts. This is about onshore vibes,' the site says. Here is a sample of what 'Panama Playlists' found. Vice President JD Vance is a fan of the songs 'I Want It That Way' by the Backstreet Boys and 'One Time' by Justin Bieber, both of which appear on his oft-listened to 'Making Dinner' playlist. The millennial veep also appears to be a fan of pop-punk, with several songs from the early aughts favourite Death Cab for Cutie appearing on his playlist 'Gold On The Ceiling.' On that playlist, Vance shows off an eclectic taste in tunes, selecting songs 'Fade Into You' by Mazzy Star, 'Pepper,' by Butthole Surfers, 'Signs' by band Tesla, and 'Take a Walk' from Passion Pit. FTX fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried has three public playlists — 'rap' 'soft' and 'loud' — which feature plenty of Eminem, also Death Cab for Cutie, and song 'Young Dumb, Broke' from Khalid. Karoline Leavitt had the songs 'Run the World (Girls)' by Beyonce and 'Girls Just Want to Have Fun' from Cyndi Lauper on her 'Baby Shower' playlist. Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson's liked tracks on his Pandora account include 'Parachutes' from the movie 'Air Force One' and the 'Finding Nemo/Nemo Egg' theme performed by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. He's also into 'One Night Love Affair' by Bryan Adams and 'May It Be' by Enya. Social media gadfly Taylor Lorenz's public playlists include 'Older Millenial College Rager TBT' and 'Breakup Songs' —- but her 'Favs' include tracks 'Romeo and Juliet' from Dire Straits and 'You Can Get It If You Really Want' from reggae legend Jimmy Cliff. Pam Bondi prefers the more upbeat tracks on her playlist named 'Pam' — including Nelly's immortal jam 'Hot In Herre,' 'Hands to Myself' by Selena Gomez, and 'Fix My Eyes' from band For King & Country.' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's 'My Shazam Tracks' — meaning songs he likely looked up — include the well-known 'Get Ur Freak On' by Missy Elliott, 'Make Me Feel Your Love,' by Adele, and 'Vivir Mi Vida' from Marc Anthony. Coinsbase CEO Brian Armstrong has a playlist called 'Repeat' that is the song 'Long Way Home' by Gareth Emery saved 60 times. And Florida Governer Ron DeSantis is a major classic rock fan with his only public playlist featuring iconic songs 'Ring of Fire' by Johnny Cash, 'Southern Nights' from the rhinestone cowboy Glen Campbell, and The Charlie Daniels Band's 'The Devil Went Down To Georgia.'

Rebel Wilson's new action-comedy film Bride Hard fails at every level

How to assess something as unassailably a flop as Bride Hard? Combining the overarching storylines of Bridesmaids and Die Hard — which, in another universe, could have been good — Bride Hard reads like AI synthesised the scripts of both films and spat out this ill-conceived, half-baked baby. Fast facts about Bride Hard What: A failed mashup of Bridesmaids and Die Hard, neither ridiculous enough to be bad in a good way or serious enough to be good in a meaningful way Starring: Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Gigi Zumbado, Anna Chlumsky, Justin Hartley, Stephen Dorff Likely to make you feel: Extremely bored There's an ostracised maid of honour competing alongside a catty bridesmaid for the affections of a bride. There's the unexpected intrusion of a group of mercenaries. If only there was a defecatory accident and it was Christmas. Sam (Rebel Wilson) is childhood best friends with Betsy (Wilson's Pitch Perfect co-star Anna Camp, who's so perky she's almost breathless throughout). She's also a secret agent who doesn't accommodate anyone else, leading to cracks in her personal and professional life. Betsy and her bridal party – Lydia (a perennially sparkling Da'Vine Joy Randolph), Zoe (a sweet Gigi Zumbado) and Virginia (Anna Chlumsky playing the equivalent of Rose Byrne's Bridesmaids character) — shun Sam after she skips out on Betsy's bachelorette to "save the world". She's also excoriated by her team for bulldozing her way through yet another mission. Simply put, Sam is alone. Placed on the equivalent of gardening leave, Sam resolves to attend Betsy's wedding on a private island estate in Savannah, Georgia and make it up to her. But mercenaries who crash the wedding have other plans — they're after the family gold. Cue Sam to the rescue. This latest offering from director Simon West — of Con Air fame, no less — could've been immensely watchable if there was anything in the way of a serviceable script, but cliched one-liners abound in Shaina Steinberg's screenplay. Anyone writing the addendum "that's what he said" in a 2025 script needs to take a good hard look at themselves. Add to that Wilson's delivery of her lines in her trademark one-note staccato and it's hard to elevate the slop. The film's love interest arrives in the form of family friend Chris, played by This Is Us's Justin Hartley, but here he's stripped of all colour and charisma. Not even a plot twist involving his character can inject a modicum of excitement into the narrative. A rich family being robbed could've been rousing from an "eat the rich" perspective, but the reasons behind it are so muddied and convoluted it never fulfils this potential. Nothing about this film works. The plot is razor thin. The tension entirely non-existent. The characters are cloying at best, wooden at worst and the chemistry between them all deeply lacking. The fight scenes are poorly choreographed and barely obscure the use of stunt doubles — but as you'd expect from an action-comedy flick, there are plenty of them. It unfolds in a slow, boring tedium. Why Holdovers star Da'Vine Joy Randolph deigned to be in it is anyone's guess and though she is the singular best thing about it, it's not enough. The funniest moment may be Camp deliriously clutching on to Wilson as they speed down an implausible super-powered plastic tube en route to the villains. It's not much, but it's a funny image, which can't be said for the rest of the film. Bride Hard is in cinemas from July 31.

Insta-glam home comes with roulette table, Ferrari garage

Want to take a sneak peek inside a Bulimba new-build that's drawing a whole lot of Instagram interest courtesy of its sleek interior and iconic façade? Mosman will open its doors at 11am tomorrow (August 2) for half an hour, marking only the second public viewing of the property after the first inspection drew a crowd of more than 300 people. FBI Interiors owners Michael and Natalie Ajaje worked with Tim Stewart Architects and McBryde Builders to bring the epic build to life and say their vison for the home was simple. 'We wanted to build one of the best houses in Bulimba, if not Brisbane,' Mr Ajaje said. Set on an 814sq m block, the home is known as 'Mosman' and marks the latest in a series of designer properties that the Ajajes have completed in recent years. Described as their 'biggest and best' project to date, it spans three levels and has a commanding street presence due to timber cladding and white battened façade. 'The façade is very unique,' Mr Ajaje conceded. 'It's designed to set the house apart as it's a beautiful home and it deserves to stand out.' Inside, the attention to luxury detail continues, with the five-bedroom residence boasting a beach club back yard, yoga studio, roulette table, eight-car basement garage, and a bespoke circular staircase that cost an eye watering $250,000. 'It's a house with a lot of big-ticket items,' Mr Ajaje said. 'That staircase is a stunner. It's like a piece of art that you might see in the Hilton or a museum.' Featuring soaring ceilings, curves, texture and a clever use of space, the property is also designed to be functional. 'It's three levels with a lift and suits everyone from large families to professional couples and even the bachelor lifestyle,' Mr Ajaje said. Upstairs are four of the property's five ensuited bedrooms including a sprawling 120sq m master suite that's the size of an average three-bedroom apartment. It comes complete with a dressing room worthy of a Rodeo Drive retailer and an ensuite that would be equally at home in an upmarket wellness retreat. 'We've used all the tools we love,' Mr Ajaje said. 'The aim was to create something that offers easy living, is modern and on trend where there are lots of zones for people to retreat to or come together.' The central level is all about that communal lifestyle and features an open plan lounge and kitchen space leading out to the outdoor entertaining area overlooking the pool and back yard. 'People love the size of the home and that area out the back,' Mr Ajaje said. 'It's the ultimate entertainer with a beach club vibe and it's built to stand the test of time.' Downstairs, the basement area includes a games room with casino grade roulette table, a wellness space including yoga room, and a fully tiled, eight-car garage with Ferrari mural. 'The basement ensures there's parking for everyone, but it could also easily be converted to a fully standalone living space to accommodate multi-generational living,' Mr Ajaje said. 'Mosman' is listed with Sarah Hackett of Place and is located at 23 Henderson St, Bulimba. 'I'd love to see it go to a local family with younger or older kids,' Mr Ajaje said. 'It's a beautiful big house that's among the best in Brisbane right now and if you miss it, you could be waiting a long time for something similar.'
