Bengals QB Joe Burrow's Latest Message Is a Warning to the NFL

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Cincinnati Bengals and Joe Burrow are looking to bounce back from their disappointing 2024 season with a much stronger 2025 campaign. Burrow and company finished last season with a 9-8 record, narrowly missing out on a spot in the playoffs. After coming up just short last season, the Bengals are highly motivated to come out and play a much better year. While the team did not make the playoffs, Burrow had a career season. He was an MVP candidate, but that isn't good enough for him. Joe Burrow #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals jogs off the field after beating the Minnesota Vikings 27-24 in overtime of the Cincinnati Bengals against the Minnesota Vikings at Paul Brown Stadium on September 12, 2021 in Cincinnati, Ohio. More Photo byThroughout the course of the 2024 NFL season, Burrow completed 70.6 percent of his pass attempts for 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 17 games. He's looking to build off of that and do even more in 2025. Read more: Chiefs Star Travis Kelce Has Made Huge Physical Change Dan Hoard, the voice of the team, shared a message that Burrow sent out about his goals for the upcoming season. "There's room to improve in every area," Burrow said. "Movement, accuracy, spin rate, bigger, faster, stronger – all of those good things." Simply thinking about Burrow improving every aspect of his game is a scary thought for opposing defenses. He's already one of the best in the business and an MVP candidate. If he's able to make the kind of leap that he's targeting, Cincinnati might just be a Super Bowl contending team. At 28 years old, Burrow has put up impressive numbers throughout his five-year NFL career. He has thrown for 19,001 yards, 140 touchdowns, and 46 interceptions, while completing 68.6 percent of his passes in 69 games. Those numbers have come despite two seasons with major injury issues. There is no other way to view this than as a warning to the rest of the NFL. Burrow is targeting his best season yet and he's confident that he can reach his goals. Read more: Vikings QB JJ McCarthy Called Out in Brutally Honest Breakdown During the offseason, the Bengals also were able to lock up his two best weapons. Both Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were given lucrative contract extensions. Once again, Cincinnati is going to have one of the most talented offenses in the NFL. If Burrow takes his game to the next level, the Bengals are going to be very difficult to stop. That could help them compete at the top of the AFC. He will still need to prove it on the field, but this comment from Burrow should excite the Cincinnati fan base. For more Cincinnati Bengals and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.

Russell Wilson Already Impacting Change With Giants

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Last season, the New York Giants had a revolving door of players under center. They rectified this in the offseason by making a drastic upgrade at the position to serve as a sort of stopgap for the future. As mandatory minicamp comes to a close, this addition already seems to be resulting in change within the team's approach. After trading into the end of the first round of the NFL Draft, the Giants potentially found their quarterback of the future in Jaxson Dart. However, the organization is taking an old-school approach to his development. Instead of throwing him right in the mix, he'll spend year one as a backup to adjust to life in the NFL. Dart's mentor will be none other than Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson, who inked a one-year deal with New York in free agency. Wilson is coming off a season where he had to battle for the starting QB spot with Justin Fields on the Pittsburgh Steelers. He ended up taking over the role for the back half of the 2024 campaign, posting a 6-5 record in 11 starts. Now with the Giants, Willson will serve as a short-term solution at QB while Dart waits to take the reigns. Can Russell Wilson's Steelers knock off the Jets as slight underdogs on Sunday Night Football? Can Russell Wilson's Steelers knock off the Jets as slight underdogs on Sunday Night Football?Though he's had a fall from grace since his time with the Seattle Seahawks, Wilson was still once among the NFL's elite quarterbacks. His presence is an upgrade for New York, who is fresh off a failed experience with Daniel Jones. Having Wilson around has also resulted in the Giants tweaking their preparation plans for the 2025 season. Earlier this week, Giants coach Brian Daboll opened up about the team getting more live reps in a 7-on-7 setting. He also cited that this change was spearheaded by Wilson, who suggested it to him. "That's something that Russell feels really good about," Daboll told reporters, according to the NY Post. "We've added some competitive periods where they have to play the situations out. Not that we didn't do that, but we've placed a little bit more emphasis on it. And not just a third-down situation, but maybe a quarter in a game, time left, score. We've done pretty much, I'd say every day we've done a little bit of that." Wilson has a lot riding on how he performs with the Giants, and he wants to make sure he's as ready as possible. With Dart already on the roster, New York has their quarterback for the future. That means this year is an audition for him to showcase his talents to the rest of the league as he looks to remain a starter in the NFL beyond 2025. Even if his time with the Giants ends up being brief, Wilson already seems to be leaving an imprint on the franchise.
