Ascot heartbreak for Hannon as Rosallion just eclipsed
A narrow winner of the St James's Palace Stakes on this day 12 months ago, the son of Blue Point finished a promising third on his return from almost a year off the track in the Lockinge at Newbury last month and was a 5-2 favourite to claim his fourth career Group One win under Sean Levey.
Rosallion quickened up smartly down the outside of the field to ensure he reversed the form with the two that finished in front of him at Newbury – Lead Artist and Dancing Gemini – but having looked likely to pick up Docklands late on, the latter battled back to claim the narrowest of victories.

Hannon said: 'It hurts, it does and it should. But he's beaten an awful lot of champions and hit the front and just got done on the line.
'It's horrible, but no one has died and he's run a great race. He's still a top-class miler and I really thought he had it.
'It was an unbelievable race and he's done everything bar win, he's done us proud and we're delighted.'
Considering plans for later in the summer, the trainer added: 'He could go to the Sussex or all of those mile races and that might be a sweeter day. Goodwood could be next and a mile is still his distance.
'All went fine and he's ran a fantastic race. He beat all those horses that were in the Lockinge Stakes, but just found one too good. But we're very pleased.'

Just under two lengths behind Rosallion in third place was Cairo, who was sent off a 100-1 shot for Alice Haynes.
Haynes said: 'That was absolutely fantastic and three furlongs out I started to get really interested. He's been in fantastic form at home and maybe he won't win a Group One, but he deserves to win a nice race as he keeps knocking on the door.
'He's ran the race of his life there and he will probably head off to America. We'll go to (the) Arlington (Million at Colonial Downs in August) and do a bit of a tour and he can run in the Grade Ones out there.
'A mile or 10 furlongs on quick ground is what he loves and there's plenty of money he can be picking up.'
Charlie Appleby bemoaned the lack of a clear run for last season's 2000 Guineas and Sussex hero Notable Speech, whose rider William Buick dropped his whip after switching to the far side of the track on his way to a fourth-placed finish.
'It was a bit of a messy race, but fair play to the winner, well done to them,' said the Moulton Paddocks handler.
'For ourselves, I think it was clear for all to see what happened. We would all love to sit there and say what jockeys should and shouldn't do, but it's easy for us to say that from a bird's eye view.
'He's ran a great race, could I say he's unlucky? I can say he's unlucky in the way the race has panned out and in the end he couldn't get there, but you could see it developing in that way.'
Notable Speech could drop back in trip later in the season, with his trainer adding: 'William said sometimes is he really a true miler? He travels for fun and he could easily come back to seven furlongs. The race that is tailor-made for him is the City Of York Stakes now that is a Group One.
'We've got that and the Sussex Stakes which he won last year as options and a easier run mile there would suit him as well.'

Mark Zahra had a glint in his eye and well he might. He had came and conquered Ascot, making his first ride at the Royal meeting a winning one, and now the party could start properly. Zahra is one of Australia's top jockeys, a proud member of an exclusive club of riders who have landed back-to-back renewals of the Melbourne Cup, and he showed his ability to the world when coaxing Docklands home to win The Queen Anne Stakes. There was a carnival atmosphere around the paddock, as racegoers from Down Under flocked to let Zahra know how appreciative they were of his efforts to deny hot favourite Rosallion by a nose in the Group One race over a mile. It was clear there were going to be celebrations and those were not going to be restricted to the stands. Zahra couldn't wait to reveal that Ascot was a stopping off destination en route to Ibiza, Europe's party capital. He and his wife, Elyse, are busy making plans to find a babysitter for their daughter, Harper, for when they get to 'The White Isle' so they can hit the dancefloor and toast the gutsy Docklands. 'My mate, Fisher (a DJ), plays at Universe, the new club they have just opened,' said Zahra with a broad grin. 'I think we will be heading there, I reckon! Me and the wife like to have a night out, so we will be getting a babysitter I reckon. 'I've got Mykonos before then with Jamie Spencer and a few of the other boys. I've got to get through that alive first and then we will go to Ibiza!' Zahra is well entitled to dine out on this success. He gave Docklands a magnificent ride, overcoming the fact he dropped his whip with 200 yards to run to get the five-year-old's head down when it mattered. He is no stranger to success, having partnered champions such as Verry Ellegant, Gold Trip, Without A Fight and Merchant Navy, but the experience of being at the Royal meeting was all new to him. As we stood in front of the weighing room, Zahra kept glancing up at the towering stand behind him to take in all the sights and sounds. Inevitably, he made a comparisons to the race back home that stops a nation. 'It's a bit different to Melbourne,' he said. 'It's very laid back, very green and everything is behind the stands. Melbourne is out the front of the stands, everything is on top of you. 'They are both great atmospheres in their own way, it's pretty hard to compare them. They are just as good as each is a pinch me moment. You come in, get one ride on the Tuesday and win on it – I'll keep that strike rate, that's for certain! 'It's hard to put this into words. It's going to be something I look back on for a very long time. The closer we got to the race, the more Harry (Eustace, trainer) filled me with confidence and he was right. 'It was amazing walking in. There were so many Aussies in the crowd, I could see them standing by the rails and they were screaming. It was just great to come back to that kind of reception. 'You look at that amazing stand and you can feel the atmosphere, it's what it's all about. I won't forget this for a long time. 'There was no relief – I'm just excited! The horse was 20/1 so I didn't have any pressure on me.' Zahra had ridden Docklands for Eustace in Hong Kong last December for Australian owners O T I Racing, with the horse – who had previously won the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot in 2023 – named after an area in Melbourne. 'I was asked to come over and do a job and it was great to deliver,' said Zahra. 'People put their faith in you and it's so satisfying when you are able to come over and repay them. It's so very special.'

Wednesday's Royal Ascot Tips & Day Two Best Bets
The 2025 Royal Ascot festival began with a bang on Tuesday and day two promises plenty more intrigue as another seven races take place on the famed course, with one Group 1 and three Group 2s included on Wednesday's card. The sole Group 1 race of the day is set up to be one of the best races of the week if the Tattersalls Gold Cup is anything to go by, as Los Angeles and Anmaat face off again in the Prince of Wales's Stakes after the former won by just half a length just under a month ago. It's Los Angeles who's the early favourite for the Prince of Wales at around 9/4 on betting sites, while Cinderella's Dream has the shortest Royal Ascot odds for one of Wednesday's other big races, the Duke of Cambridge Stakes. As usual with Royal Ascot, it's a day of high quality racing, kicking off with the Queen Mary Stakes at 14.30 before the Queen's Vase at 15.05. Here are our best bets for day two at Royal Ascot. Prince of Wales's Stakes Betting Preview (16.20, ITV1) Early favourite Los Angeles arrives at Ascot off the back of a brilliant win in the Tattersalls Gold Cup on Irish Guineas weekend, seeing off second-favourite Anmaat by around half a length last month.
