John Textor issues parting dig as he explains decision to sell Crystal Palace stake
'It has disappointed me that our English league partner [Palace] has chosen not to accept any of our obviously qualified players from top teams, top leagues, and top national teams, and so to really promise player pathways to the players that we meet in different parts of the world, we have to have a collaborative UK partner. It's a must. It is our promise to the athletes, it's our promise to the community.

Kyogo sparks Birmingham City interrogation as Rennes insider breaks silence on Celtic hero's transfer rumours
Kygo is set to be a target for the EFL Championship big spenders One of Kyogo's teammates at Rennes has been put on the spot about reports linking the Celtic hero with a move to his former club Birmingham City. The Japanese frontman only arrived in Ligue 1 in a £10million switch from Parkhead back in January but has failed to make an impact and could well be shown the door this summer. Premier League side Bournemouth have already been credited with an interest in the 30-year-old and would offer Kyogo a reunion with former Hoops pal Ryan Christie. And they aren't the only English club to be lined with the ex Vissel Kobe attacker. Recent reports claim that Kyogo is a target for English Championship new boys Birmingham City, who are looking to make a splash in England's second tier next season under the ownership of US billionaire Tom Wagner and former NFL star Tom Brady. A move to St Andrews would see Kyogo team up with Celtic and Japan pal Tomoki Iwata, who was a key cog in the side that romped to the League One title last season. Another man who could have inside knowledge on Kyogo's potential transfer to Birmingham is Wales international Jordan James. The 20-year-old rose through the ranks with the Blues before landing a big £4million move to Rennes 12 months ago. Brum diehards have taken to social media to quiz James on any news about his club teammate but the player has now responded by insisting he has heard nothing. He wrote on X: "Just to make it clear don't have a clue about (the) Kyogo rumours , what a legend though." However, some supporters have questioned whether the 20-time Wales cap is hiding something. One fan replied: "Nice bluff. We know what you're really saying." While another wrote: "If you wanted to you (you) could find out..." A third responded: "He is coming tho isn't he JJ" You can get all the news you need on our dedicated Rangers and Celtic pages, and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season. Rangers are interested in adding a highly-rated former Arsenal coach to their backroom staff as head coach Russell Martin begins to assemble his new coaching staff at Ibrox. According to an exclusive report from Sheffield Star journalist Alex Miller, the Glasgow giants are weighing up a move for Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeping coach Sal Bibbo as a replacement for the outgoing Allan McGregor, who returned to the club under interim boss Barry Ferguson in February. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad The Basingstoke born former stopper is thought to be available without the need for compensation, with controversial Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri having not yet dealt with the frontline coaching team's contracts, which are due to expire at the end of the month, according to the Sheffield Star's report. Rangers head coach Russell Martin is looking to add to his backroom staff. The 50-year-old coach enjoyed a modest playing career playing for the likes of Havant and Waterlooville and Bath City, but has found more success post-playing career, first signing for Reading as a goalkeeping coach on an initial part-time basis before signing full-time in 2006. Following his spell at the Majeski Stadium, Bibbo was then poached by English Premier League giants Arsenal in the summer of 2019, and remained with the Gunners when Mikel Arteta was appointed as club new boss just a few short months later, working alongside Iñaki Caña, though he has spent the last two seasons at EFL Championship side Sheffield Wednesday working alongside German head coach Danny Rohl. During his time at the Emirates, he was given glowing praise for his work with German international Bernd Leno and Argentinian World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez, with the latter crediting the influence of Bibbo as a key reason for him making the move to the Gunners. 'I really look up to Sal,' said Martinez. 'He's a great goalkeeper coach and a great man so he was a major influence in me coming here. When [Arsène] Wenger left, so many people were sacked at Arsenal. The fact that Arsenal wanted to keep him [Bibbo] in the club, it was for a reason. I'm very pleased that he's still at Arsenal.' Jets owner Woody Johnson agrees to buy stake in English soccer club Crystal Palace
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson is going back across the pond for his newest investment. Johnson, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom, has agreed to purchase a stake in English soccer club Crystal Palace from American businessman John Textor, the club announced on Monday. ESPN reported that Johnson is purchasing a 43% stake from Textor as part of a $254 million deal. 'Whilst the completion is pending approval from the Premier League and Women's Super League, we do not envisage any issues and look forward to welcoming Woody as a partner and director of the club,' Crystal Palace said in a statement. 'We would like to go on record to thank John Textor for his contribution over the past four years and wish him every success for the future.' Johnson was the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. from 2017 to 2021 during President Donald Trump's first administration. He previously declared himself a supporter of fellow English club Chelsea and made an unsuccessful bid to purchase Chelsea in 2022. Crystal Palace's ownership group also includes other NFL owners in Josh Harris, the Washington Commanders' principal owner, and David Blitzer, a Commanders minority owner, as well as English businessman Steve Parish. Crystal Palace won the 2024-25 FA Cup, an annual domestic competition that pits teams across English soccer divisions against one another, and finished 12th in the Premier League table this past season. The club is now poised to play in the UEFA Europa League. It was potentially in danger of breaching multiclub ownership rules with Textor's Eagle Football Holdings Group also owning a controlling stake in French club Lyon, which also qualified for the Europa League.
