Aaron Taylor-Johnson Fuels Bond Rumours With This Awkward 28 Years Later Red Carpet Moment

Aaron Taylor-Johnson… will you just spill already?
It's now been well over a year since speculation went into overdrive about whether the Bullet Train actor would be taking over the role of James Bond in the iconic spy franchise, following Daniel Craig's final outing in 2021's No Time To Die.
It seemed we finally had our answer in March 2024 when an unnamed 'source' told The Sun that the Tenet star had been offered the gig. However, this was then cast into doubt just one day later, when a 'production insider' told BBC News there was 'no truth in the rumours'.
Despite the ongoing mystery, Aaron is hardly helping put our racing minds to rest.
Appearing on the red carpet at the world premiere of his new film 28 Years Later in London on Wednesday, the actor was asked by Deadline what he was up to next.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson declined answering a question about what he's doing next during the #28YearsLater world premiere. 'I can't talk about it,' he said as he was being escorted away pic.twitter.com/KI2t1DjhaN
— Deadline (@DEADLINE) June 18, 2025
He coyly replied that he 'can't talk about it' before being whisked away by a member of his publicity team.
But while neither party actually mentioned James Bond, Aaron's response had everyone in agreement that he was only adding more fuel to the speculation fire…

I mean, this won't make Bond speculation go away but it could also be any other project haha https://t.co/7EX59VHjHj

This isn't the first time Aaron has been faced with questions about the next phase of his career by reporters, after he repeatedly dodged the topic of playing 007 in several interviews.
Even his red carpet appearance at the Venice Film Festival last September seemed to point to the fact that he was next in line to play Bond.
If he is, indeed, taking the reins in the legendary franchise, he's already received the seal of approval from two former 007s.
Meanwhile, fans think they spotted a seriously big clue last month about Aaron, that might just be the James Bond confirmation we've all been waiting for.
Besides Aaron, there have been numerous other British stars are reported to be in the running for the highly coveted role, from Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, Richard Madden and even Harry Styles.

Health concerns keep UK's Princess Catherine away from Royal Ascot tradition

Princess Catherine has withdrawn from Royal Ascot as she continues her recovery from cancer, missing the event, which will be attended by Prince William and King Charles. The future queen has gradually returned to duties after remission in January. The Royal Ascot, a cherished event for the royal family, was also Queen Elizabeth II's favourite sporting occasion. Britain's Catherine, Princess of Wales, who is recovering from cancer, has pulled out of the Royal Ascot race meeting, her Kensington Palace office said on Wednesday. The famed sporting event in Berkshire in southern England is a key event in the royal calendar. Catherine, also known as Kate, would not be attending Royal Ascot with her husband, Prince William, King Charles III and Queen Camilla as she continued to 'find the right balance following her battle with cancer,' the Press Association news agency added. The 43-year-old future queen has been making a gradual return to public duties since she announced she was cancer-free in September 2024. In March that year, the mother-of-three revealed she was undergoing a course of 'preventative chemotherapy' for an undisclosed cancer. Kate, who in January revealed she was in remission, was said to be disappointed not to be able to attend Royal Ascot, a renowned social and sporting occasion for which the royal family came out in force. The annual five-day race meeting was said to be the late Queen Elizabeth II's favourite sporting event. Royal Ascot begins each day of the week with the Royal Procession, a historic tradition in which the monarch and various accompanying members of the royal family arrive along the track in horse-drawn carriages. The king announced in early 2024 that he, too, had been diagnosed with an unspecified cancer. He has since returned to public duties but is still undergoing treatment. Catherine on Saturday appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace with the rest of the royal family following Charles' annual birthday parade. Johnny Marr turned down ‘eye-watering' Smiths reunion offer because the ‘vibe' wasn't right

Johnny Marr has confirmed that The Smiths were recently offered the chance to reform for an 'eye-watering' amount but he turned it down because the 'vibe' wasn't right. The indie band, fronted by Morrissey, formed in Manchester in 1982 with Marr as the guitarist, Andy Rourke on bass and Mike Joyce on drums. Rourke died in May 2023, aged 59, following a lengthy illness with pancreatic cancer. The group produced several critically acclaimed albums including Meat is Murder (1985) and The Queen is Dead (1986) but split in 1987, with Marr and Morrissey at loggerheads ever since. In a recent appearance on the Stick to Football YouTube show, which is presented by former England and Manchester United player Gary Neville, Marr said the group had been made an offer to reform in 2024. Marr said: 'We got made an offer really recently, in fact, but yeah, I said no. It was a little bit about principles, but I'm not an idiot, I just think the vibe's not right.' He added: 'It was an eye-watering amount of money, but also, I really like what I'm doing now which makes it a lot easier. I like where I'm at. I still want to write the best song I've ever written. I want to be a better performer.' News of a potential reunion was made public at the time thanks to Morrissey, with the singer announcing on his website: 'In June 2024 AEG Entertainment Group made a lucrative offer to both Morrissey and Marr to tour worldwide as 'The Smiths' throughout 2025. 'Morrissey said yes to the offer; Marr ignored the offer. 'Morrissey undertakes a largely sold out tour of the USA in November. Marr continues to tour as a special guest to New Order.' The feud continued between the pair with Morrissey claiming in September 2024 that Marr had applied for copyright of The Smiths name 'without any consultation' with him, and without giving him a chance to object. In a statement, Marr's representatives denied the claims and explainied that he'd offered a joint ownership document to the singer following a third-party attempt to use the band's name. In 2022, Marr said there was 'zero chance' he'd ever work with Morrissey again. Speaking to the late Steve Wright on BBC Radio Two, Marr said it had been '18 or maybe 15' years since he had last spoken to Morrissey in person. At the time the pair were involved in a fresh spat after Morrissey wrote an open letter to Marr asking him to stop bringing him up in interviews. Marr responded to his former bandmate on Instagram, writing: 'An 'open letter' hasn't really been a thing since 1953, It's all 'social media' now. Even Donald J Trump had that one down. Also, this fake news business… a bit 2021 yeah?'

28 Years Later's Aaron Taylor-Johnson teases sequel The Bone Temple

28 Years Later may have taken years to get to the big screen, but viewers won't have long to wait for the next instalment in the franchise: The Bone Temple. That's right, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland's iconic horror franchise will return and much sooner than viewers think, which is a good thing given the shocking events that close out 28 Years Later. The movie follows the journey of 12-year-old Spike (Alfie Williams), whose life is turned upside down after he and his father Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) have terrifying encounters when they go to the mainland so that Spike can have his first kill. The Rage virus that broke out nearly 30 years ago, and which Cillian Murphy's bicycle courier Jim first encountered in 28 Days later, has ravaged the landscape. Britain has been cut off from the rest of the world and the survivors have been left to fend for themselves, those that remain have been forever changed by the outbreak. Taylor-Johnson, Williams and their co-star Jodie Comer shared some details with Yahoo UK of what people can expect from the next film. Here is everything that we know so far about The Bone Temple, but be warned there are some spoilers for 28 Years Later in this article. When asked about the sequel by Yahoo UK and if there was anything they could tease, Taylor-Johnson shared: "Oh if only, we wish. But I think if you come and see this movie and you see the journey in which Spike goes, where it ends, you definitely wanna see more for sure. "I suppose I could give a tee up of what Danny would say: This movie starts with Teletubbies and it ends with Teletubbies, but not in the way that you expect." Comer, who portrays Spike's mother Isla, admitted that she's "just as excited to see" The Bone Temple as audiences will be, because of the unexpected ways it takes the franchise. Reflecting on the surprising way 28 Years Later ends, she said: "It's like a total energy shift, right? You're like, 'oh my God, OK!' you can already feel that the second film is going to be very, very different, which is exciting." Following the death of his mother Isla (Jodie Comer), Spike decides to venture onto the mainland but not before leaving the baby of an Infected with his island community. His mother helped the pregnant infected give birth, and while the baby girl is the child of an infected she isn't infected herself, so Spike urges his community to keep her safe and tells them that she has named her Isla. Spike decides he wants to spend some time alone on the mainland, still angry at his father for cheating on Isla while she was dying from cancer. The film jumps to 28 days later (see what they did there) and Spike is taking things day by day, surviving off the land and killing infected as he goes. One day he is jumped by a number of infected and whilst fighting them off he is met with a group that is being led by Jack O'Connell's Sir Jimmy Crystal. All of them are dressed the same, as knock-off Jimmy Saville impersonators with long blonde hair, a plethora of gold jewellery and colourful boiler suits — they're also all named Jimmy in some variation, and whether any of this is addressed in The Bone Temple is to be seen. O'Connell's character asks Spike if he and his followers can step in, when Spike agrees the group unleash hell on the infected in a bonkers sequence that sees them execute them with the help of elaborate acrobatics and gruesome homemade weapons. Jimmy then introduces himself to Spike, and the film leaves the characters there ahead of The Bone Temple. Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Garland, The Bone Temple was filmed back to back with 28 Yers Later and it is scheduled to be released on 16 January 2026. Little is known about the plot other than it will follow on from the events of 28 years Later and Boyle is hopeful that a third film can be made to make it a trilogy. As mentioned, Williams and Taylor-Johnson are expected to return for the next film, as is Ralph Fiennes who starred as Dr Kelson in 28 Years Later and O'Connell will reprise his role as Sir Jimmy. Emma Laird will also return as Jimmima, as will Maura Bird as Jimmy Jones, and Ghazi Al Ruffai as Jimmy Snake, all of whom are members of Crystal's cult. The most exciting casting news though is that Cillian Murphy will return to the franchise as Jim, the character he made iconic in 28 Days Later. It is unclear how Jim will fit into the narrative, but he was last seen living with fellow survivor Selena (Naomie Harris) and Hannah (Megan Burns) in Cumbria where they were hoping for rescue. 28 Years Later is out now in cinemas, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple premieres in UK cinemas on 16 January, 2026.
