Famous faces return to celebrate Sportscene at 50
"It was a great time for Scottish football and the Saturday night sports programme was absolutely required viewing," he said."I did 33 consecutive Scottish Cup finals – what a privilege to have been in the hot seat for so many of the big occasions, including all the World Cups and everything else. I was hugely lucky and very much appreciate that."The special edition, which will air exactly 50 years on from the programme's debut show, will also feature archive footage stretching back five decades."The big stand out game for me was the first cup final, because it was probably one of the best cup finals there had ever been," said Brown. "Motherwell 4-3 Dundee United after extra-time and the teams were managed by the McLean brothers – both of whom I knew very well! The game was an absolute cracker."I've done a lot of broadcasting since leaving Sportscene and I'm really looking forward to going back on the show. It'll be good fun. It's an iconic programme that has a big place in the story of sports broadcasting in Scotland."It all kicks off on the BBC Scotland channel and iPlayer at 20:15 BST on Saturday, with a repeat being shown on BBC One Scotland after midnight at 00:20.

Mikey Moore set for Rangers debut alongside two others in predicted XI for Alloa
Gers face the League One side for a place in the quarter finals of the Premier Sports Cup Rangers will look to kickstart their domestic campaign this evening when they host Alloa Athletic in the Premier Sports Cup - and it could provide Russell Martin with an ample opportunity to ring the changes. Despite guiding his new-look team to the play-off round of the Champions League - where they will face Belgium's Club Brugge - Gers have already fallen behind Celtic in the Premiership having drawn both of their opening league matches. While summer recruits Djeidi Gassama and Oliver Antman have made impressive starts at Ibrox, Rangers ' tendency to give up goal-scoring chances has been a cause for concern, and without Jack Butland in midweek the 2-1 defeat to Viktoria Plzen away from home could have looked a lot more ugly. And having missed out on the Premier Sports Cup to Celtic via a penalty shootout last year, Light Blues fans are desperate to get their hands on the first piece of silverware that will be up for grabs, and Martin will be looking for a dominant performance against the Wasps tonight. The former Southampton boss made just two alterations from the side that were held to a 1-1 draw at Ibrox last week in their European trip to the Czech Republic on Tuesday but more are to be expected this evening, with several players in need of some minutes. Tottenham loanee Mikey Moore and Norway international Thelo Aasgaard are both in line to make their Rangers debuts, and should prove Martin with some real dynamism in attacking areas. Striker Cyriel Dessers limped off with a serious looking ankle problem in Plzen, and while his injury is not as bad as first feared, the Nigerian will sit this one out. That should see Danilo restored to the starting line-up, with fellow frontman Hamza Igamane set to make the bench after getting back up to speed. Emmanuel Fernandez is yet to kick a ball in a competitive sense for Gers and will be hoping to get an opportunity while Connor Barron will be desperate to be handed a start for the first time this season. Kieran Dowell and Bailey Rice will vie to partner the former Aberdeen man at the base of the midfield despite Record Sport learning that Motherwell want to bring the latter back to Fir Park. Max Aarons may have to operate at left back with Jefte poised to head back to Brazil and Ridvan Yilmaz also heading for the exit door, with skipper James Tavernier likely to hold down his right back spot on the opposite flank. Stopper Butland was Rangers' savour in midweek but will Martin give some minutes to back-up keeper Liam Kelly? We'll have to wait and see on that one. Record Sport has offered up a potential line-up for the cup clash at Ibrox. Predicted XI Provisional squad Goalkeepers Jack Butland Liam Kelly Kieran Wright Defenders Max Aarons Nasser Djiga Emmanuel Fernandez Leon King John Souttar James Tavernier Jefte Midfielders Nedim Bajrami Connor Barron Lyall Cameron Oscar Cortes Mohamed Diomande Kieran Dowell Djiedi Gassama Nico Raskin Joe Rothwell Oliver Antman Forwards Hamza Igamane Josh Gentles Danilo

Comedian Milton Jones says he is ‘cancer free' after undergoing surgery
Comedian Milton Jones has announced he is cancer free and will be extending his stand-up tour after cancelling several dates earlier this year following his diagnosis. The 61-year-old, who is known for his appearances on cancelled BBC Two show Mock The Week, thanked the doctors and nurses who had helped him amid his treatment for prostate cancer and said he is 'in a completely different place' now. Advertisement A statement from Jones to the PA news agency said: 'A few months ago, I had to stop my tour Ha!Milton because I needed treatment for prostate cancer. 'I'm glad to say I've had that treatment and am now cancer free! Milton Jones said he had cancer in April (Graham Finney/WENN/Alamy/PA) 'So, many thanks to all the doctors and nurses who helped me get better – I couldn't do their job (I tried, but apparently you have to be qualified). 'A big thank you to my family, friends, all those who helped reschedule things and the many others who have been so nice to me. Advertisement 'Along with all those who have kept hold of their tickets for the shows that have been rescheduled and apologies to those whose shows we were unable to move. 'I have to admit there were a few dark moments when I wondered if anyone would ever see me again, but then I realised that I was leaning against the light switch. 'Thankfully I'm now in a completely different place, and if you look at my website, you'll see that very soon I'll be in lots of other different places on tour too – I hope to see you there.' In April, Jones announced his diagnosis in an Instagram post where he explained he would be needing time to recover after undergoing surgery. Advertisement In the comments, Olympic cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, who has incurable stage four prostate cancer, said: 'Really sorry to hear it mate, best of luck.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Milton Jones (@themiltonjones) The comedian rescheduled some of his summer gigs and has now announced more than 20 new dates to take place across September, October and November in cities and towns that include Exeter, Guildford, St Albans, Newbury, Crewe, Wrexham and Bury St Edmunds. His stand-up show, Ha!Milton, which is currently scheduled to end in November, is a play on words, making reference to the hit musical of the same name. The NHS says prostate cancer develops slowly, so there may be no signs for years, but says symptoms may include an increased need to urinate, straining while urinating and a feeling that the bladder has not fully emptied. Advertisement Jones's career has seen him perform on Live At The Apollo, Lee Mack's All Star Cast and Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow.

Gary Lineker sends warning to his three Match of the Day successors - and admits he is unlikely to watch first show since his exit
Gary Lineker has sent a warning to his three successors as host of Match of the Day. Lineker has been replaced by a trio of presenters, with Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates and Gabby Logan to share hosting duties. According to Lineker, the fact that three individuals have been called upon for the job emphasises how much of a commitment it is. Lineker told Four Four Two: 'That's probably down to the fact it's a massive commitment. 'Those three have all got families, and if you're saying someone is going to do it for the next 10 or 20 years, then your weekends are gone. That might be it, I don't know. I didn't get involved in any of that. I take it as a compliment that they've named three, but I suspect it's not due to that.' Lineker has backed the trio to be hugely successful but admitted that he probably won't be watching the first show of the season live. He said: 'I haven't seen them yet to speak to them, but I will do – they'll be fine and they'll do a great job. I've known them all for years, they're top presenters. 'I'll be watching, but probably on iPlayer… I don't think I'll be watching on Saturday. Maybe the odd time, if I'm in.' Lineker first presented Match of the Day in 1999 as he replaced Des Lynam. In November last year it was announced that he would depart the show at the end of last season. Lineker had been due to be part of BBC's coverage of the 2026 World Cup but was axed in May after sharing a social media post which sparked an anti-Semitism row. Chapman will host this season's first edition of Match of the Day on Saturday night, with Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney as pundits. Cates, who has extensive experience of working for Sky Sports, confirmed that Lineker hadn't been in contact with any of the new presenters. 'No he hasn't got in touch and I haven't got in touch with him, but not because we're not avoiding each other,' Cates said as part of Sky Sports' launch of the new Premier League season. 'We just don't know each other. 'I know Gary to say hello to (but) we just don't know each other that well. And I think Chappers was saying that Gary said: 'Well, why would I tell three broadcasters how to do their job?' which is very lovely of him because he was brilliant at the job and adored. 'And as much as he was a controversial character at times, any focus group that was researching will tell you how much he was adored in that role. 'So I think from my point of view, the reason not to do it would be, I don't want to be Gary. I think there's a temptation to try and be someone else, and I think that you get a job because of yourself. 'And if then you try to be someone else, it can all just get a bit confused. I don't need another thing to think about. I don't need to be sitting there thinking: 'What would Gary do?' It's not a decision not to. It's just we don't have that relationship.'
