Three spurious liquor units busted, 14 arrested
In the first operation, officials from Amalapuram and Kakinada carried out a joint raid at Komaragiripatnam village in Allavaram mandal, Konaseema district. A large-scale illegal liquor manufacturing unit was found operating with 1,065 litres of spirit, 125 PET bottles labelled as 'AC Black', sealing machinery, fake caps, labels, and caramel used for liquor production. Eight persons, including Neredumilli Subrahmanyam and Chavvakula Premkumar alias Babloo, were arrested at the scene.
Based on leads from the Konaseema raid, another unit was traced to Palakol in the West Godavari district. This facility was engaged in bottling spurious liquor using rectified spirit, glycerine, caramel, and artificial flavours. Two accused Puli Roshani Sheetal and Borra Satya Apparao were apprehended during the raid.
In a third operation, officials uncovered a distribution network in Payakaraopeta, Anakapalli district. The seizures included 1,247 counterfeit nip bottles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and packaging material. Four suspects were taken into custody.
Authorities are now investigating the source of raw materials, machinery, and fake branding used in the production of spurious liquor. Efforts are on to track down the remaining members of the racket and dismantle the entire illegal supply chain.

Vijayawada: Cracking the whip, the director of excise and prohibition, Nishant Kumar , decided to shift all the staffers in two key excise stations in East Godavari district after observing gross underperformance. The decision follows a review of enforcement work in the region, where Nishant found that staffers, including the station house officers (SHOs), were not showing any keenness to achieve the targets set by the government. This is the first time in the history of the Excise and Prohibition Department that the entire staff from specific stations has been transferred to other locations. According to sources, Nishant Kumar directed the Deputy Commissioner of Excise and Prohibition to transfer all the staffers, including SHOs, from Rajamahendravaram North and South stations. He stated that not even a single staff member from these stations deserved to continue. Staffers from Rajamahendravaram North and South stations were relocated to far-off locations within the district. While some were moved to other station duties, a few were reassigned to check-posts. Sources said Nishant Kumar was particularly disappointed with the poor progress in tracking old offenders, resolving pending cases related to illicit distilled (ID) liquor manufacturers, and maintaining surveillance on suspected offenders. During a surprise inspection two days ago, the staff reportedly failed to provide proper answers to his queries. The new staff brought to these stations will strengthen on-ground enforcement & achieving the objectives of Navodayam 2.0

In a decisive move under the ongoing Navodayam 2.0 enforcement initiative, the Andhra Pradesh Excise department has undertaken a complete staff overhaul at two key stations in East Godavari district. The entire personnel of Rajamahendravaram North and South Excise Stations have been transferred following a continued lack of progress in enforcement work. Director Excise and Prohibition Nishant Kumar ordered the reshuffle after departmental reviews flagged persistent underperformance at both stations. Despite prior instructions and monitoring, officials at the two units reportedly failed to meet operational benchmarks or demonstrate the required vigilance in curbing illicit activities. New staff have been brought in from other divisions to replace the outgoing teams, with the objective of reinvigorating enforcement on the ground and realigning efforts with the goals of Navodayam 2.0 — the State government's intensified campaign against illegal liquor trade and excise-related violations. The department has made it clear that further action will be taken wherever performance lapses are identified, reinforcing its commitment to accountability and effective enforcement.

Ganga e-way contractor booked after 2 kidson bicycle drown in pit dug for construction
Bareilly: A contractor involved in construction of a stretch of Ganga Expressway was slapped with a case of "causing death by negligence" on Friday after two children, aged 10 and 9, got drowned in a pit dug for the road work in Sambhal district on July 10. Police said Nishant Kumar (10) and his classmate Prince (9) couldn't get out of the deep pit after their bicycle slipped into it near the e-way at Nakhasa on the outskirts of Sambhal city. "The pit was deeper than the permissible limit and was dug by a 'CDS contractor' of the Ganga e-way. Prima facie, it is a case of negligence. We'll take necessary action against the accused. An FIR was registered under BNS section 106-1 after a complaint by the grandfather of one of the victims," said Sambhal circle officer Kuldeep Kumar. Kumar added: "The culprit hasn't been named in the FIR so far and investigation is on to find out the person responsible for that particular segment where the incident happened... We'll take appropriate action soon." There have been several such incidents in western UP, especially during monsoon, where children lost their lives due to drowning in deep pits dug up for sand and soil mining. A similar incident took place in the neighbouring Rampur district on July 16, where three girls herding their goats drowned in a pit dug by mining mafia. In 2024, at least 13 children lost their lives due to "killer" pits in the same district. Moreover, as per the records of local officials, more than 40 kids have died of drowning in western parts of the state since June 2024.
