GT vs MI Mullanpur pitch report: How will the pitch play for today's IPL 2025 eliminator?

Time of India4 days ago

Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans are set to face five-time champions Mumbai Indians in a crucial IPL 2025 Eliminator in Mullanpur on Friday. Both teams bring playoff experience to the fixture, but they arrive with key issues to address.
Gujarat Titans, winners of the 2022 title, have struggled to maintain their form, especially in the bowling department, conceding 465 runs across their last two matches. The departure of Jos Buttler for international duties has also left a gap in their top order. With an inconsistent middle order, the team will rely heavily on Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Kusal Mendis to anchor the innings.
Mumbai Indians, captained by Hardik Pandya, are also dealing with the absence of overseas players like Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks. Jonny Bairstow is likely to open alongside Rohit Sharma, while Suryakumar Yadav remains the key performer with 640 runs this season. The team continues to face questions around Tilak Varma's form and their ability to set strong totals when batting first, though their bowling attack remains a major asset going into the knockout match.

GT vs MI: Pitch Report
The pitch at Mullanpur features square boundaries of 62 and 65 metres, with a straight boundary of 73 metres, making it deceptively large. The pitch is grassy, assisting batters with good bounce and carry. One end has extra grass aiding pacers, while the other has bare patches where spinners may operate, potentially offering some grip. Dew is expected due to moisture in the air. Batting first is the preferred option for captains after winning the toss.

Harbhajan Singh lambasts Mumbai Indians coaching staff for interfering in IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 vs PBKS, says 'Don't show desperetness'

Harbhajan Singh lambasts Mahela Jayawardene's actions during MI vs PBKS, IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match. New Delhi: On June 2, in the second qualifier for the IPL in 2025, the Mumbai Indians lost to the Punjab Kings. Setting a tough target of 204 runs, the five-time champions could not win, so the Punjab Kings qualified for the final instead. Mumbai Indians' bowlers secured two early wickets, but were unable to curb Punjab Kings' aggressive scoring. Jasprit Bumrah, despite high expectations, had an ineffective performance, conceding 40 runs without taking a wicket. Mumbai Indians' difficulties in their second innings led to head coach Mahela Jayawardene taking a more active role, frequently providing on-field guidance to his players. Harbhajan Singh criticized Mumbai Indians' coaching staff after expressing disapproval of Jayawardene's behavior. 'Look at the Mumbai Indians dugout. When they were leaking runs, there was too much involvement from the outside,' said Harbhajan on his official YouTube channel. 'The coaches are telling a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah what to do and what not. A dressing room needs to remain calm and composed. Coaches should only give advice. Don't show desperation. So somewhere I felt that when this happens way too much, it breaks the player's spirit,' he added. Harbhajan Singh, a former Mumbai Indians captain, played for the team from 2008 to 2017. His final season with the franchise coincided with Jayawardene's tenure. Mumbai Indians (MI) showed significant improvement after a slow start to the IPL season, ultimately securing fourth place with eight wins from fourteen matches. Their victory over the Gujarat Titans in the eliminator secured a spot in the second qualifier, however, they were unable to advance to the final for the fifth consecutive year.

RCB vs PBKS Ahmedabad Weather Forecast IPL 2025 Final: Will inclement rain delay crowning of first-time champions?

Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings are gearing up for a high-stakes IPL final, both aiming to break their long-standing title drought. Despite being part of the league since its inception, neither franchise has managed to lift the coveted trophy—making this clash a golden opportunity to finally rewrite their history. The two teams finished in the top two after the league stage, with Punjab leading the charts with 19 points and Bengaluru right behind them with the same points but an inferior Net Run Rate. However, the win in Qualifier 1 will give Rajat Patidar and Co. a big boost over Punjab Kings, whom they have already beaten twice this season. However, the weather forecast might hamper both teams' plans, as it doesn't look all that pleasant at the moment. According to AccuWeather, there's a 66 per cent chance of rain in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon, casting some concern over the final for both teams and their fans. Temperatures are likely to hover around a sweltering 38 degree Celsius with high humidity levels. However, conditions are expected to ease by evening, with rain chances dropping to just 5 per cent. Despite that, a lingering 33 per cent cloud cover could still keep both camps on edge. Meanwhile, according to the IPL Final conditions, an additional hour to the playtime, extending the duration to 120 minutes and having a reserve day in the final are the measures in place to ensure the contest is completed. Rain had also disrupted the start of the PBKS vs MI Qualifier 2, causing a delayed kickoff. However, once the match got underway, there were no further interruptions, and Punjab Kings delivered a commanding performance to secure their spot in the final. Iyer, who had led Kolkata Knight Riders to a title triumph in 2024, produced a stunning 41-ball unbeaten 87 against MI as Punjab Kings reached their first final in 11 years. RCB and PBKS have already clashed three times this season. Punjab Kings took the upper hand in their first meeting, but RCB bounced back emphatically, winning the next two encounters—most notably a dominant performance in Qualifier 1 that will have boosted their confidence.
