District police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said the 20-year-old victim, also a foreigner, was in critical but stable condition with a slash wound to her neck.
He said the ex-boyfriend was detained shortly after the incident.
"At 6.30pm, Subang Jaya police received a report that a foreign man had injured his former girlfriend, also a foreigner, with a knife at a private university here.
"Investigations revealed that the victim, aged 20, had slash wounds to the left side of her neck. The victimwas sent to University Malaya Medical Centre and placed in the Red Zone.
"The victim is said to be in stable condition," he said.
Wan Azlan said the suspect in the case, a 21-year-old who is the victim's former boyfriend, was detained not long after the incident.
"The motive behind the attack is still under investigation," he said.
He added that the case has been classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means, which carries a sentence of imprisonment of up to 10 years, fine or caning, or any two of the three punishments.

High Court frees former car jockey of rape charges
KUALA LUMPUR: A former car jockey was recently acquitted by the High Court on charges of a raping a woman, then 18, in a car park at an entertainment centre in 2023. High Court judge K. Muniandy reversed the decision of the Sessions Court last year and allowed the appeal of B. Satia, 27, who was sentenced to 11 years in jail and two strokes of the rotan. In his decision, Muniandy said Satia's testimonies were consistent and probable. He said there was none of Satia's DNA evidence on the victim, an aspect of the case as revealed by the chemist which was not considered at all by the Sessions Court judge. Muniandy said the Sessions Court judge did not consider the early statement of Satia, which synced with his oral testimonies in court and was subjected to cross examination. He said, had the Sessions Court judge embarked as such, he would have considered in totality the reasonable doubt raised by Satia. Earlier, defence lawyer Muhammad Amin Abdullah had submitted that the Sessions Court judge had erred in facts when he decided that the prosecution had proven a prima facie case against Satia. He had said the Sessions Court judge did not consider the evidence of DNA which was absent from the victim's body and the car. Amin appeared with co-lawyer Julie Faralisa Abd Jais. The prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Natasha Zaini. In September last year, judge Izralizam Sanusi imposed the jail sentence on Satia and another accused, T. Khanesen, 32, after ruling that they failed to raise reasonable doubt in the prosecution's case. They were separately charged with raping the victim at 5.06am and 5.20am in the car at the centre in Jalan Tun Razak on May 13, 2023. The charge under Section 376 of the Penal Code carries a maximum 20-year jail term and whipping.

Two loan shark members arrested for Tasek Gelugor arson
GEORGE TOWN: Two men suspected of being part of a loan shark syndicate have been arrested in connection with a fire that razed three houses in Tasek Gelugor last month. The suspects, both in their 20s, were detained in separate raids conducted by the Penang Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) on July 3. Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed the arrests, stating that the suspects also allegedly vandalised a house in Tanjong Tokong with paint on June 30. Several items were seized during the raids, including a Yamaha Y16Z motorcycle, sport rims, mobile phones, and clothing. During questioning, both men reportedly admitted involvement in the arson case, which caused an estimated RM300,000 in damages. Five cars and four motorcycles were also destroyed in the fire. The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief by fire. Police further revealed that the suspects may be linked to five other paint-splashing incidents currently under investigation. The fire, which occurred around 4.50 am on June 24 at Taman Tasek Gelugor Utama, did not result in any injuries. One victim later claimed on Facebook that the arson was related to loan shark activities, possibly targeting another house in the area. Reports indicated that a homeowner had received a debt repayment warning, though the affected houses were not the intended target. – Bernama
