Starlink launches internet services in Bangladesh
Dhaka, May 20 (UNI) Starlink, the satellite internet venture backed by Elon Musk's SpaceX, has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh, offering high-speed, low-latency internet to both urban and remote users across the country.
Confirming the development, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, said Starlink informed the Bangladesh government of its entry via a phone call on Monday afternoon, followed by confirmation on their official social media handle earlier Tuesday morning.
"Starlink has officially started its journey in Bangladesh. They have commenced operations with two initial packages — Starlink Residence and Residence Light. The monthly subscription rates are fixed at Tk 6,000 and Tk 4,200 respectively," Taiyeb said in s statement posted on Facebook.
He added that a one-time payment of Tk 47,000 will be required for installation and equipment. Both packages will offer unlimited data with internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps, with no data caps or throttling.
The rollout is expected to significantly benefit remote areas where fibre optic or conventional high-speed internet infrastructure is yet to reach. "This service provides a sustainable alternative for premium users and opens doors for businesses, NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who require uninterrupted internet access throughout the year," Taiyeb noted.
The Special Assistant further remarked that the Chief Advisor's vision of launching this connectivity service within 90 days had been fulfilled. "The Hon'ble Chief Advisor congratulated all stakeholders involved in facilitating Starlink's entry into Bangladesh," he said.
Consumers across Bangladesh can begin placing orders for Starlink services starting today. UNI BDN SSP

Why Trump Won't Scrap White House Starlink Despite Break-up With Musk
Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. Trump expresses support for Musk, stating no plans to suspend Starlink service at the White House. He suggests Musk should reach out to him following their recent public disagreements. Trump indicates he may remove his Tesla from White House grounds amid ongoing tensions. Washington: US President Donald Trump seems to be extending an olive branch to his billionaire backer, Elon Musk, following their public spat last week. On Monday, Trump told reporters that he doesn't plan to suspend Musk's Starlink internet service at the White House and wishes "very well" for the business tycoon. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, America's commander-in-chief suggested he may remove the Tesla car he purchased from White House grounds, as he indicated that the onus was on the Tesla CEO to reach out to him after an explosive week that saw the pair trade insults and threats in a dispute that began over the president's signature 'One Big Beautiful Bill Act' bill. He said he has not yet considered speaking with Musk but believes the tech billionaire likely wants to talk to him. "I would think that if I were him, I'd want to speak to me. But, and maybe he has already called, you'd have to ask him, ask him whether or not he's already called. But I'd have no problem with - well, I don't want to say that, but, you know, but I would imagine he'd want to talk to me," Trump said. When asked about his current relationship with Musk, the President said, "I wish Musk understand, we had a good relationship" Brushing off concerns over the future of Musk's government-linked ventures, Trump said, "I would not drop Starlink. It's a good service." The President noted that he had not seen a confrontation between Musk and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent getting physical, and hoped the Tesla CEO had not been using recreational drugs during his time working for the government. A New York Times report claimed that Musk, the onetime head of the Department of Government Efficiency effort, had been using ketamine while in office. "I really don't know - I don't think so, I hope not," Trump said. Trump's relatively restrained remarks came after Musk deleted a series of social media posts over the weekend, including multiple suggestions that the Republican leader was mentioned in unreleased files related to disgraced New York financier Jeffrey Epstein. Tesla stock plummeted during the dispute, and Trump threatened to cut government contracts to Musk's companies.

‘I May Move It Around': Trump Keeps Red Tesla, Praises Musk's Starlink As ‘Great Service'
Last Updated: The relationship between Trump and Musk has soured in recent weeks, following Musk's sharp criticism of Trump's so-called 'Big, Beautiful Bill' US President Donald Trump has dismissed speculation that he intends to part ways with his red Tesla Model S, stating instead that he might simply 'move it around a little bit." Speaking at a White House press briefing on Monday, Trump was asked directly if he planned to get rid of the electric car he purchased on March 11 from Elon Musk, his then-close ally. 'No, I may move it around a little bit," Trump replied. When asked where it might be relocated, he added cryptically, 'I have a lot of locations." The car was spotted parked at the White House over the weekend amid rumours of a fallout between Trump and Musk. On Starlink Trump said: 'It's a good service." — Sawyer Merritt (@SawyerMerritt) June 9, 2025 Despite escalating tensions between the two, Trump also clarified he has no intention of discontinuing Starlink, Musk's satellite internet venture operated under SpaceX, at the White House. 'I don't think we'll be doing that with Starlink. It's a good service," Trump said, referring to the high-speed broadband provider that has become integral in remote and emergency communications. The relationship between Trump and Musk has soured in recent weeks, following Musk's sharp criticism of Trump's so-called 'Big, Beautiful Bill", which the Tesla and SpaceX CEO labeled an 'abomination" over concerns about the federal deficit. Trump responded with threats to revoke Musk's government contracts, prompting Musk to warn that SpaceX could withdraw its Dragon program in retaliation. When asked Monday if he still intends to speak with Musk, Trump replied, 'If I were him, I would want to speak to me. Maybe he's already called. You'd have to ask him." He added, 'We had a good relationship, and I just wish him well." Musk later responded with a heart emoji on X (formerly Twitter) to a clip of Trump's remarks — a subdued gesture in an otherwise very public fallout between two of the most prominent figures in American politics and tech.
