Starlink launches internet services in Bangladesh
Dhaka, May 20 (UNI) Starlink, the satellite internet venture backed by Elon Musk's SpaceX, has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh, offering high-speed, low-latency internet to both urban and remote users across the country.
Confirming the development, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor, said Starlink informed the Bangladesh government of its entry via a phone call on Monday afternoon, followed by confirmation on their official social media handle earlier Tuesday morning.
"Starlink has officially started its journey in Bangladesh. They have commenced operations with two initial packages — Starlink Residence and Residence Light. The monthly subscription rates are fixed at Tk 6,000 and Tk 4,200 respectively," Taiyeb said in s statement posted on Facebook.
He added that a one-time payment of Tk 47,000 will be required for installation and equipment. Both packages will offer unlimited data with internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps, with no data caps or throttling.
The rollout is expected to significantly benefit remote areas where fibre optic or conventional high-speed internet infrastructure is yet to reach. "This service provides a sustainable alternative for premium users and opens doors for businesses, NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs who require uninterrupted internet access throughout the year," Taiyeb noted.
The Special Assistant further remarked that the Chief Advisor's vision of launching this connectivity service within 90 days had been fulfilled. "The Hon'ble Chief Advisor congratulated all stakeholders involved in facilitating Starlink's entry into Bangladesh," he said.
