Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dahod, excitement is building around the inauguration of the newly completed Dahod Locomotive Manufacturing Workshop , a major infrastructure milestone for Indian Railways.Speaking ahead of the Prime Minister's arrival, Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Western Railway , highlighted the swift progress made at the facility."You can see right now behind me is the first locomotive that has been manufactured at this workshop. The foundation stone of Dahod locomotive manufacturing workshop was laid just a couple of years back in 2022 to be precise, and within 3 years, as we can see this production centre is completely ready to be inaugurated shortly," CPRO said.According to Abhishek, the workshop has been designed with a production capacity of 120 locomotives per year, with potential scalability to 150 units annually depending on future demand."As far as the capacity of this workshop is concerned, we plan to produce around 120 locomotives per year, but if there is a need, we can also increase this production capacity to almost 150...the PM will be coming here on Monday and he will dedicate this locomotive workshop that has been completed in a record time. He will dedicate it to our nation, and we are really keenly looking forward to this important event," he added further.PM Modi will be on a two-day visit to Gujarat on May 26 and 27, where he will unveil a series of development projects in Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar, including major initiatives by the Railways and various state government departments valued at over Rs 24,000 crore.PM Modi will inaugurate the Locomotive Manufacturing Shop at the Rolling Stock Workshop in Dahod, constructed by the Railway Ministry at a cost of Rs 21,405 crore. PM Modi will also dedicate the first 9000 HP locomotive engine, developed under the 'Make in India' initiative, to the nation, an official release said.Alongside this, he will inaugurate railway projects worth Rs 2,287 crore, including the doubling of the Anand-Godhra, Mehsana-Palanpur, and Rajkot-Hadmatiya railway lines, the 107 km electrification of the Sabarmati-Botad railway line, and the gauge conversion of the Kalol-Kadi-Katosan railway line, bringing the total value of railway-related works to Rs 23,692 crore.The railway production unit in Dahod will provide employment to 10,000 people and boost the local economy. The locomotive engine manufactured here will have the capacity to haul 4,600 tonnes of cargo, with a target to produce approximately 1,200 engines over the next 10 years.

Following leopard attacks that left minor girl dead, woman injured in separate incidents, Gujarat village on edge
A week after a 9-year-old girl was allegedly dragged away and killed by a leopard, and three days after a 40-year-old woman was injured in another such attack, a village in Gujarat continues to be on edge with forest department teams of two other districts deployed in the area to locate the big cat. The officers from Banaskantha and Kevadia districts are also trying to ascertain if the attacks in Kolvan village of Sagbara taluka in Narmada district were carried out by the same animal or two different leopards. The village has seen multiple protests by residents, prompting the elected representatives to get involved in the matter. The forest department, meanwhile, has deployed trap cages and cameras and invited teams of experts to help catch the leopard. The first incident occurred on May 27, when the minor girl, Shreyal Vasava, was allegedly dragged from outside her house and mauled by a leopard. The second incident took place on Sunday when a woman, Bebi Vasava, was allegedly attacked by a leopard while she was sleeping in her hut in her farm. Though she was rescued by villagers who had arrived at the scene on hearing her screams, she suffered injuries on her hands and legs besides losing a part of her right ear. Following protests in Kolvan village, forest officials handed over a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family of the deceased minor. Range Forest Officer (RFO) Sagbara Abhay Singh told The Indian Express, 'We have installed 10 trap cages and trap cameras, and also taken help of drone cameras. A special tranquilisation team from Banaskantha, which has helped rescue leopards that stray into revenue areas, has been roped in. We also have one specialist team from the zoo from Kevadia that is helping us understand the behaviour of the wild leopards…' Singh said the forest officials are first addressing the question if the two attacks have been carried out by the same leopard. Singh said, 'The first question is whether the two leopards are same or different. We are trying to ascertain the same by examining pug marks from 550 periphery areas and zeroing down on the routes that the leopard might have taken… We are hopeful that in the next couple of days, we will be able to rescue it.' Singh said since the girl and the woman were attacked within a space of two kilometers, it was likely that the leopard in both the cases is the same. 'The woman, who is the second victim, is also of a small build like the 9-year-old. In leopard attacks, the size of the victim is also of consequence. There is a big possibility that it could be the same leopard but we are trying to confirm this through examination and probe. We have been regularly shifting the cages to increase the chance of the leopard being trapped,' Singh added. Even though the forest department is confident of catching the leopard in a few days, the villagers don't share the optimism. Anil Valvi, the brother of Bebi, said, 'It has been over a month since the leopard attacks have increased in the area and a single person venturing out close to sunset is risky now … We all are scared. The forest department is setting up cages but leopards do not walk into traps these days. They must tranquilise and catch the leopard…' Bharuch MP Mansukh Vasava, who visited Bebi on Tuesday, said a 'taskforce' should be formed to deal with the human-leopard conflict in the region. 'I will appeal to the government to form a special taskforce to tackle the problem of the leopard-human conflict. Now, more leopards are straying into the areas of human habitation from the forests and steps must be taken to resolve the problem,' said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader.

Meerut man arrested for operating multi-crore car loan fraud
Meerut: The special task force in Meerut arrested a 35-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly operating a car loan fraud gang, causing losses worth crores to several banks. Additional SP STF Brijesh Kumar Singh said, "Anangpal Nagar, a resident of Kithore in Meerut, was the mastermind behind the crime and had been involved in this scam for the past 10 years. So far, six cars have been identified and a loss of over Rs 2.5 crores have been accounted for." Singh added, "Nagar used forged addresses in car loan documents along with fake Aadhaar cards at banks to secure loans and later sold the cars — mostly luxury — after defaulting on EMIs. The addresses on the documents were often linked to rented houses. Once a vehicle was financed, the accused vacated the listed address, stopped paying the EMI, and sold the vehicle at a reduced price to unsuspecting buyers." During interrogation, Nagar revealed that he registered a fake enterprise named Preeti Dairy, in the name of his female friend, showing its location in the Modipuram region of Meerut. Police said he used this fake business to create financial credibility by opening multiple bank accounts and transferring money between them to manipulate the cibil score in ITR filings. "In March, Anangpal financed a Fortuner from an SBI branch using a friend's name. Last year, he financed a Scorpio for Rs 18.5 lakh from the Indian Bank in the name of another female friend and later sold it to one Mohit Siwach for Rs 11 lakh. Two Toyota HyRyder vehicles were also financed — one from Toyota Finance and the other from ICICI Bank in Gurgaon — using fake address proofs. One of these was later sold to a buyer in Rajnagar Extension of Ghaziabad for Rs 16 lakh," Singh said, adding that investigation is ongoing to identify other members of the gang and trace more vehicles obtained through this racket.

The deal is being touted as the most expensive in India, with each square foot of space costing a whopping Rs 2.83 lakh, as per the report. Additionally, the Kotak family has bought an entire sea-facing building in Mumbai for Rs 628 crore, while DMart owner Radhakishan Damani purchased a vintage bungalow in the posh Malabar Hill area for a staggering Rs 1000 crore. As per experts, there are a multitude of factors responsible for the country's uber-rich deciding to invest in luxury real estate, such as the rising demand in the real estate market for luxury homes. Luxury real estate prices skyrocketing in Indian metros Luxury real estate prices in India metros and tier-I cities are surging at a rapid pace, with Mumbai, Bengaluru and Delhi ranked among 15 world cities where prices of luxury homes are increasing the fastest, as per a report by Knight Frank. Bengaluru ranks 4th on the list, followed by Mumbai at 5th, and Delhi at the 15th spot. According to market data, India's luxury home market grew by 28% in FY23-24, with Delhi-NCR topping the sales. Together, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR accounted for 67% of the total investment in luxury real estate, showcasing these cities as major real estate hubs in the country. Notably, the number of high net worth individuals (HNIs) increased by 6% to 85,698 in 2024, and the number is expected to reach 93,753 by 2028, according to the Knight Frank Wealth Report 2024. The report noted that HNIs in India invested 32% of their wealth in real estate in 2024, while the figure was 25% in 2020.
