One household member overnighted under the stars before Alisha Heffernan and Brian Cahill were wed.
The sacred statue turned out to be a class act for the Cork teachers. 'The Infant of Prague pulled it out of the bag. The weather was absolutely stunning,' says Alisha, from Ballyphehane.

As she and Brian, from Frankfield, Douglas, emerged from the Church of Christ The King as newlyweds to the tune of Leeside anthem After All by The Frank and Walters, Turners Cross could have been Torremolinos.
They were married by Fr Noel O'Sullivan and held their reception in the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Little Island.

West Cork duo Orla and Niall performed in the church and Cathal Fitz entertained during the drinks reception.
Alisha's mother Martina Heffernan and grandmother Helen Heffernan and Brian's parents Christine and Paul Cahill and his grandmother Shirley Cahill led the toasts.

Alisha's sister Sarah Heffernan, her cousin Muireann McCarthy and friends Eva Wallace and Ally Treacy were her bridesmaids.
Brian's brother Keith Cahill was the best man and his brother Aidan Cahill was groomsman, along with his friends Eoghan Linehan and Adam Barry.

The bride's father, the late Liam Heffernan, was in their thoughts. 'It was a very emotional day as we missed my dad greatly. He passed away in 2017 and was commemorated on the day with a memorial table and bouquet charm,' says Alisha.
'My mother and sister gifted me with a beautiful bracelet engraved with 'Love you always, Dad x' in my dad's handwriting which was taken from an old birthday card,' she says.

Their pupils and colleagues also congratulated Alisha, a special class teacher in Carrigtwohill CNS, and Brian, a special class teacher in Blarney Street CBS.
The couple met via the bride's grandmother and the groom's mother. 'Brian's mom, Christine, has been my nana's hairdresser for over 20 years so we had always heard about each other growing up, and we both attended Mary Immaculate College,' says Alisha.

She and Brian went on their first date in July 2015. 'Pretty soon after my mom and Alisha's nana were chatting about who would be sitting at the top table!' says Brian.
He proposed in August 2022. 'Our favourite TV show is 'Taskmaster' and Brian had created a series of tasks for me, from making a picnic to solving puzzles to going on a treasure hunt.'

The latter led to their favourite picnic spot, Tramore Valley Park. 'In an envelope was a message asking me to marry him — along with a beautiful ring from Designworks [Studio] in Cornmarket Street,' says Alisha.
Alisha's dream gown awaited at Cork's Tuckey Street. 'Karl at Memories Bridal Boutique helped me select the dress that made me feel amazing, an Abigail from Willowby,' she says.

Fusion Hair Design and Lizzy Desmond were the bridal hair and makeup team, and the groom and his party sourced their suits at Simply Suits.
Florista created the décor, and Ray and Irene Terry ( rayterryphotography.com) and WedFilms were behind the cameras.

"During the photos, I found a ladybird within a layer of my dress. We took it out only for it to reappear twice during the day! I like to think it was my dad's way of letting me know he was around,' she says.
As the groom is a darts fan, the entrance to the ballroom was decorated to resemble a darts walk, with legendary darts commentator John McDonald providing an audio track.

Thanks to The Old Moderns and DJ Bertie the dance floor was 'never empty'.
The Sallybrook-based newlyweds chose Bali for their honeymoon.

New three-day Wicklow hiking festival coming in September

Wicklow People Today at 02:00 This September Wicklow will take centre stage in a brand new outdoor event designed to inspire, challenge, and bring people together through the shared love of hiking. Hiking buddies from all corners of Ireland will be travelling to the Garden of Ireland for this weekend hiking festival, which organisers hope will become an annual event. The 'Wicklow Weekender', taking place from Friday, September 5, to Sunday, September 7, is the brainchild of Brian Keogh, a passionate hiker from Dublin with deep Wicklow roots. A dedicated member of the popular group Hiking Buddies Ireland, Brian wanted to create an unforgettable weekend that would celebrate both the natural beauty of Co Wicklow and the community spirit of hiking. To make that vision a reality, Brian has assembled a team of six passionate hike leaders from Hiking Buddies Ireland to guide 11 hikes over the three-day weekend. The hikes range in difficulty-from easy strolls to challenging climbs, taking in the highest mountain in Wicklow, Lugnaquilla. The hike leaders for the weekend include Brian Keogh, Ann Kavanagh, Emer Prendiville, Ann McCabe, Michelle Cahill and Janet Deegan. 'We have always loved these mountains so we wanted others to experience them in a way that's safe, exciting, and welcoming to everyone- no matter your level of experience. Participants must be members of Hiking Buddies Ireland to take part-but joining is simple, even life changing. Hiking Buddies Ireland is not just a group- it's a family,' said Janet 'Founded four years ago by Mairtin Mac Siomoin from Donegal but based in Tipperary, Hiking Buddies was born out of Mairtin's own struggle to find hiking companions. Today, the group has grown to over 16,000 members across Ireland. Together we have tackled trails across the UK, Europe, and even Africa's Mount Kilimanjaro. 'More than just a hiking group, has become a powerful support network, helping people combat isolation, manage health challenges, and building lasting friendships. We've helped each other through Covid and through tough times. We talk about everything and nothing, but we never come down the mountains wishing we'd stayed at home,' added Janet. Hikes taking place on Friday, September 5, include Djouce in Enniskerry, Church Mt in Hollywood, the orange route in Glendalough and Bray Head for sunset. Hikes lined up for Saturday, September 5, include Scarr, Derrybawn in Glendalough, Tonlagee and Lough Ouler, the Sugarloaf and Lowbawn. Hikes to Maulin in Enniskerry, Lugnaquilla and Seahan in Tallaght take place on Sunday, September 7. You must first join Hiking Buddies Ireland on Facebook before you can participate in any of the weekend hikes. Related topics Myles Buchanan

‘You're going to get me in so much trouble' warns Brian Dowling as former Virgin Media star takes live dig

BRIAN Dowling warned a former Virgin Media star that he was "going to get him in trouble" on air. The Six O'Clock Show host ventured out of the studio today to the South Palmer Course at the K-Club for the annual Marie Keating Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic sponsored by Skechers. 3 Brian Dowling was left in fits of laughter on air Credit: VMTV 3 Brian Dowling spoke to Simon Delaney on air Credit: VMTV 3 Brian got his golf questions wrong Credit: VMTV The event is hosted annually by the Foundation's Patron Ronan Keating and he was joined by many of his celebrity friends including Keith Duffy, Brian McFadden and Simon Delaney. Brian interviewed Simon for the hit evening chat show and got more than he bargained for. The 54-year-old started quizzing Brian on his golfing knowledge asking him a host of questions such as: "Who won the US Masters this year?" Brian's answer for every question was Shane Lowry, but unfortunately for him it wasn't the correct answer. Simon jeered him and added: "Again, why are you at a golf event?" Brian attempted to change the subject and brought up the Hollywood movie that the former Ireland AM star worked on recently. The highly anticipated project, Blue Moon, was filmed all over Ireland and primarily Dublin during the summer of 2024. The film stars Ethan Hawke as Hart, with support from Andie MacDowell's daughter, Margaret Qualley and Ireland's own Andrew Scott. While Simon portrays Scott's professional-second-half, Oscar Hammerstein. Speaking about his co-star, Simon said: "It kills me to say it, but he's a lovely fella." Inside Arthur Gourounlian and Brian Dowling's 10th wedding anniversary Brian replied: "His ears are burning. We know he watches this. The 54-year-old joked: "He does, religiously. He said that to me when we were filming. He said, God, Brian looks great these days. Brian replied: "Did you tell him I'm married?" TV TIFF Simon added cheekily: "He knew. He does. He knew, but there was a sadness in his voice." Brian responded saying: "And on that note, before you get me in trouble and get me fired, Simon today." Simon said: "You can't be fired twice, Brian." The dad-of-two remarked: "Well, apparently you can be." And Simon called out Brian's lack of golf knowledge again as he said: "By the way, Rory McIlroy won the US Masters." Brian ended the interview saying: "You're going to get me in so much trouble."

He will be fine but unfortunately he had to have back surgery, of all things." Pippa explained that things escalated quickly and the surgery became unavoidable. She said: "Things just kind of went from bad to worse and he needed to get it done. It was done on Friday and he will be home later on today." Reflecting on how the few days had been, she added: "So the weekend consisted of football matches and hospital visits and I am happy to see a new week."
