Five-star 2026 linebacker chooses Alabama over Ohio State

Five-star 2026 linebacker chooses Alabama over Ohio State

USA Todaya day ago

In what isn't much of a surprise, five-star 2026 linebacker Xavier Griffin announced his commitment to Alabama on Sunday.
James Laurinaitis and Ohio State had hopes early on that Griffin could join an already solid linebacker room because of the prospects over the last couple of cycles, but as of late, the trend has been towards Tuscaloosa despite Griffin decommitting from USC and immediately scheduling a visit to Coumbus. In the end, the pull to stay in the south for the Georgia product proved to be too much.
Griffin is ranked as the No. 27 overall prospect and the 2nd-best linebacker in the 2026 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. Had the news went Ohio State's way on Sunday it would have been a major shocker as the program looks to put the finishing touches on its 2026 recruiting class.
For now, Laurinaitis and company will soldier on with the fantastic group he has at the spot.

Notre Dame is off to a fast start in the 2027 cycle, as linebacker Ellis McGaskin commits

When you are hot, you are hot, and Notre Dame football recruiting is certainly hot. The Irish have added multiple prospects to its 2026 recruiting class, and have now started its journey with the 2027 cycle. Long snapper Sean Kraft was the first recruit to verbal to Notre Dame, but the first position player to make his pledge to the Irish is linebacker Ellis McGaskin, who made his choice on Monday afternoon. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 190-pounder picked Notre Dame over LSU and Ohio State, giving the Irish another great start to another class. McGaskin is ranked as the No. 209 overall prospect of the 2027 class by the 247Sports Composite, and could see his stock rise over the coming months. Notre Dame made the offer to McGaskin in mid-March, as that was enough for him to want to join one of the trendiest programs in the country. The Irish showed everyone last year, they can compete for championships while getting one of the best educations nationally.

ESPN's latest 2026 NFL mock draft spells trouble for Oregon Ducks' Dillon Gabriel

The Cleveland Browns have spent the last quarter century trying to obtain the future of the quarterback position, but they've had little to no luck. The process continued this year, though, as they selected two quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel from the Oregon Ducks and Shedeur Sanders from the Colorado Buffaloes. Although fans and league executives are excited about the NFL prospects of each player, they were selected as third-round and fifth-round draft picks, respectively, so Cleveland is not tied to them long-term. The Browns are widely expected to field one of the worst rosters in football next season, and, unfortunately for both Gabriel and Sanders, ESPN's Matt Miller expects the team to be in the market for another quarterback if they land a top pick. In Miller's recent 2026 mock draft, he has Cleveland selecting Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik with the first overall pick. 'Spending two picks on quarterbacks in 2025 -- Dillon Gabriel (third round) and Shedeur Sanders (fifth round) -- shouldn't prevent the Browns from looking for a long-term passer here. Klubnik enters the season as my No. 1 QB,' he said. There is a good chance Gabriel wins the starting job this season, so he needs to perform well or he could be replaced just as quickly as he was thrown to the fire.
