Long-time LSU commit to reportedly visit Alabama this weekend

According to multiple reports, a current LSU football commit is set to visit the Alabama Crimson Tide this weekend. That prospect is wide receiver Kenny Darby, a Louisiana native who has been committed to the in-state Tigers since Nov. 2024. Darby also, according to reports, previously shut his recruitment down earlier this year. Advertisement According to the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Darby is currently rated as the nation's No. 155 overall player in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 7 prospect in the state of Louisiana where he attends Airline High School. A four-star prospect, Darby also ranks as the No. 23 overall wide receiver in the class. Darby will now be yet another name to monitor as the Crimson Tide prepare to host a loaded recruiting weekend in Tuscaloosa. Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently has only five commitments, none of which are wide receivers. Top 10 all-time leading passers in Alabama football history

Top 10 all-time leading passers in Alabama football history Throughout the storied history of the Alabama Crimson Tide football program, there has been no shortage of stellar play from the quarterback position. Over the years, Alabama has seen a quarterback win the Heisman Trophy, while others have also finished highly in voting for college football's top individual honor. The Crimson Tide have also seen multiple quarterbacks drafted in the first round of the NFL draft, some of which have come as high as No. 1 overall. A big reason for that success was each's on-field performance while at Alabama, with many of those same names going on to depart Tuscaloosa leading in many of the program's all-time statistical categories, arguably the most notable of which among quarterbacks is passing yards. Here is a look at just who Alabama's Top 10 all-time leaders in passing yards are entering the 2025 college football season. 10. Jay Barker (1991-94) Career Passing Yards: 5,689 One of Alabama's top quarterbacks of the 1990's, Barker ended his four-year Crimson Tide career with 5,689 yards passing from 1991-94, combining that total with a 56.9 CMP% and 26 touchdowns during his time in Tuscaloosa. A multi-year starter at Alabama, Barker helped lead the Crimson Tide to the 1992 national championship, with his best season in Tuscaloosa likely his 1994 campaign in which he finished fifth in Heisman voting. 9. Greg McElroy (2007-10) Career Passing Yards: 5,691 Among the first big names of the Nick Saban era, McElroy ended his Alabama career just ahead of Barker on the all-time passing leaders list with 5,691 yards from 2007-10, while also boasting a combined 66.3 CMP% and 39 scores through the air. A two-year starter at Alabama, McElroy helped lead the Crimson Tide to the 2009 national title, with his best season coming likely in 2010 where he led the SEC with a 70.9 CMP%. 8. Andrew Zow (1998-2001) Career Passing Yards: 5,983 A starter in the late-1990's who helped lead Alabama into the 2000's, Zow finished his Crimson Tide career with a total of 5,983 yards passing from 1998-2001, combining that total with a 53.9 CMP% and 35 touchdowns through the air. Zow's top season at Alabama was likely his first in 1998 where he threw for 1,969 yards with a 55.9 CMP%. 7. Jalen Milroe (2021-24) Career Passing Yards: 6,016 One of the top rushing quarterbacks in Alabama's history, Milroe ended his Crimson Tide career with 6,016 passing yards from 2021-24, along with a 64.3 CMP% and 45 touchdowns through the air. Milroe's top season at Alabama was likely his 2023 campaign in which he finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. 6. Mac Jones (2018-20) Career Passing Yards: 6,126 Owning one of the greatest season's Alabama has ever seen from the quarterback position, Jones concluded his Crimson Tide career with 6,126 passing yards, along with a 74.3 CMP% and 56 touchdowns through the air. The best season for Jones at Alabama was undoubtedly his 2020 season in which he helped lead the Crimson Tide to the national championship, while also finishing third in Heisman voting after leading the nation in passing yards and completion percentage. 5. Brodie Croyle (2002-05) Career Passing Yards: 6,382 A multi-year starter in Tuscaloosa, Croyle's time at Alabama concluded with a combined 6,382 passing yards from 2002-05, while also posting a 56.2 CMP% with 41 scores through the air. Croyle's top season at Alabama was likely his last in 2005 where he threw for a career-high 2,499 yards and a 59.6 CMP%. 4. Tua Tagovailoa (2017-19) Career Passing Yards: 7,442 One of the more talented quarterbacks in Alabama history, Tagovailoa ended his Crimson Tide career with a total of 7,442 passing yards, along with a combined 69.3 CMP% and 87 touchdowns through the air. Helping lead Alabama to the 2017 national championship, Tagovailoa's best season at Alabama was likely his 2018 campaign in which he finished runner-up for the Heisman Trophy by leading the SEC in numerous statistical categories such as completion percentage, passing yards, and touchdowns. 3. John Parker Wilson (2005-08) Career Passing Yards: 7,924 The first starting quarterback of the Saban era, Wilson was a three-year starter at Alabama who ended with 7,924 passing yards, a 56.6 CMP%, and 47 touchdowns through the air. Wilson's top season at Alabama was likely his 2006 campaign pre-Saban, but an argument could certainly be made for either 2007 or 2008 as well. 2. Bryce Young (2020-22) Career Passing Yards: 8,356 One of the highest-rated recruits in Alabama history, Young concluded his Crimson Tide career sitting second on the all-time passing yardage list at 8,356 total, while also owning a combined 65.8 CMP% with 80 touchdowns via the air as well. A one-time national champion in 2020, Young's top season at Alabama was his 2021 campaign in which he won the Heisman Trophy after leading the SEC in both passing yards and touchdowns. 1. AJ McCarron (2010-13) Career Passing Yards: 9,019 One of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Alabama history, McCarron is the Crimson Tide's all-time leading passer with 9,019 yards from 2010-13, which he paired that total with a career 66.9 CMP% and 77 touchdowns through the air. McCarron concluded his Alabama career as a two-time national champion in 2011 and 2012, with his best season in Tuscaloosa either his 2013 campaign in which he was the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, or his 2012 in which he led college football in passer rating. Trump to deliver commencement address to West Point graduates

US President Donald Trump is set to deliver his first military commencement address since returning to office. The Republican president will speak to the West Point military academy's graduating class on Saturday morning in New York state. Advertisement Mr Trump gave the commencement address at West Point in 2020, during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. The US President urged the graduating cadets to 'never forget' the soldiers who fought a war over slavery during his remarks, which came as the nation was reckoning with its history on race after the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Mr Trump also paid tribute to the military academy's history and its famed graduates, including Douglas MacArthur and Dwight D Eisenhower. The ceremony five years ago drew scrutiny because the military academy forced the graduating cadets, who had been at home because of Covid-19, to return to an area near a pandemic hotspot. Advertisement Mr Trump travelled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, earlier this month to speak to the University of Alabama's graduating class. His remarks mixed standard commencement fare and advice with political attacks against predecessor Joe Biden, musings about transgender athletes and lies about the 2020 election. On Friday, US vice president JD Vance spoke to the graduating class at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr Vance said in his remarks that Mr Trump is working to ensure US soldiers are deployed with clear goals rather than the 'undefined missions' and 'open-ended conflicts' of the past. Advertisement

A fork, a dare and a proposal: How one mother helped her daughter find love at a Holiday Inn

As Summer Waters wrestled an unwieldy pile of luggage through the doors of a Holiday Inn in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she caught sight of a striking young man with dark hair behind the front desk. Her mother, Melissa Waters, noticed him, too. Ethan Phleger, the employee in question, clocked the two women the moment they stepped into the lobby. How could he not? 'Whenever my mom and I go anywhere, we have at least 20 bags,' Summer tells noting that on that particular day in August 2023, they were also unintentionally twinning in identical outfits, making them 'pretty hard to miss.' After Summer and Melissa — plus their many suitcases — finally arrived at their room and opened their takeout bags for lunch, they discovered they had forgotten utensils. Melissa saw it as the perfect opportunity for her daughter to go back downstairs and strike up a conversation with the 'most gorgeous guy' Summer had ever seen. Summer, then a University of Alabama student, was only staying at the hotel while waiting to move into her sorority house. Melissa pointed out if they hit it off, distance wouldn't be an issue — they were both local. Still, Summer wasn't optimistic. 'I was like, 'Nothing is going to come out of this,' she recalls, her words rolling out with the warm, lilting cadence of a thick Southern drawl. At first, Summer thought she was right. Ethan, busy assisting other guests, barely made eye contact when she inquired about forks and simply pointed to where she could find them. Even when she lingered, hoping he might look up, he remained focused elsewhere. Summer recounted the disappointing interaction to Melissa, who wasn't the least bit discouraged. She dared Summer to dial the front desk and ask Ethan if he was single. (He was.) And not only that, he was very interested in Summer and gave her his number. The call was recorded, a moment that would become the centerpiece of a now-viral TikTok chronicling the couple's whirlwind love story. 'We started texting that night,' Summer says. What stood out to Summer, beyond the 'immediate physical attraction,' was Ethan's faith. One of his first questions was about where she attended church in Tuscaloosa. 'The fact that he brought that up so early really stood out to me. I'm a Christian and that is super important to me,' Summer says. She remembers feeling a flutter in her chest, and having to steady herself. 'I didn't want to get too excited, just in case,' she explains. Summer and Ethan had their first official date the following week, and, ever the Southern gentleman, he arrived with a bouquet of yellow flowers. Over coffee, they skipped the small talk and dove straight into meaningful conversation. They spoke about the glory of God and the kind of relationship they were searching for. 'Neither of us wanted to waste the other person's time,' Summer says. 'I know this sounds crazy because I was so young, but I was ready to find my husband.' Ethan felt the same. He, too, was looking for something real: a partner, a future, a life built on shared values. Not long after, he presented Summer with a box holding a fork engraved with the date she walked into the Holiday Inn and the words, 'Be my girlfriend?' Three months later, Ethan surprised her again with another box — this one containing a diamond ring. During their wedding in August 2024, as Ethan recited his vows, he paused to place a fork gently in his bride's hand. Etched into it were the words: Just married 8/10/24. It's a match Melissa proudly claims credit for — and Summer agrees. 'If my mom hadn't encouraged me to shoot my shot, I never would have done it,' Summer says. 'I was such a chicken. I never would have even thought about approaching a guy first. But I'm so thankful I did.' This article was originally published on

Housing demands grow and University of Alabama students want to live in ‘The Box'

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) – New developments address the demands of an ever-growing University of Alabama student population. UA had a record-breaking fall 2024 enrollment, and realtors expect the same trend, as well as the challenges that accompany it, this semester. 'You can ask anybody, around October things are already almost all filled for the next school year,' Tuscaloosa Realtor Madison Moore said. 'Which is just crazy.' Moore is a UA graduate. During her time at UA, it was a challenge to find off-student housing. Now as a realtor she sees that the increasing student population creates a need for more development. But they want to move into a very specific area. 'Students love living in 'The Box,'' Tuscaloosa Realtor Alice Maxwell said. 'The Box' comprises of an area that stretches from Queen City Avenue, down to Hotel Capstone and up to the train tracks on Hackberry Lane. 'It's just so convenient to everything they want to do,' Maxwell explained. If you live in 'The Box,' you're walking distance away from Bryant Denny Stadium, Coleman Coliseum, The Strip and everything in between. That can make student living easy, but finding an available lease is not. There's high demand, high enrollment and not enough property. For a developer, finding available land can be just as challenging. But prime real estate in the area has opened up. Helena City Council considers raising sales tax 'We wanted the location, and this came available, and it fit the mold,' William Blakeney said. Blakeney owns William Blakeney Building Company, a Tuscaloosa-based company that specializes in a multitude of construction projects, including residential. In December, he began building a high-end triplex off of Paul W. Bryant Drive near Frank Thomas Avenue. It's three floors, with each floor being its own unit. The building's white brick placed against the black windowpanes and beams create a classic modern feel. 'We also wanted the outdoor living, so we did these outdoor wrap-around porches, wrap-around balcony with grills,' Blakeney said. The elevated triplex is meant to attract sports fans, students and their families. The location is another big selling point. 'That was the most important thing we were looking for, walkability,' William Blakeney said. 'It's great for game days or walking to class.' Given UA's enrollment numbers continue to climb annually, Blakeney's goal is to hand over keys before classes begin. 'We know the deadline,' Blakeney said. 'August 1 is an always huge date for us, and we always hit them.' Units are already up for grabs, and down the street another developer has broken ground. Next year, residents can expect to find elevated townhomes on Paul W. Bryant Drive near Jackie's lounge. 'I think the more development we can have down there, the better.' Moore said. 'It will create more opportunities for Tuscaloosa and the University to grow.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
