A man in his 50s has been taken to hospital with "potentially life-threatening injuries" following a collision that has left a major road closed for a number of hours. Gwent Police were called to the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle on the A40 near Monmouth at around 11.25am on Friday, May 9.
Multiple emergency services attended the incident, including officers from Gwent Police as well as personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and Welsh Air Ambulance. The road remains closed in both directions for and there has been heavy traffic in the area. Follow our live updates here.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported the crash occurred on the A40 eastbound between the A449 (Raglan Interchange) and B4293 (Gibraltar Tunnels). The road is closed between these two points.
The A40 westbound is closed from B4293 (Gibraltar Tunnels) to Mitchel Troy while emergency services respond to the collision on the other carriageway.
A spokesperson for Gwent Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision, involving a motorcycle, on the A40 at around 11.25am on Friday, May 9.

"Officers attended along with personnel from the Welsh Ambulance Service and Welsh Air Ambulance.
"The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, has been taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries."
The Welsh Air Ambulance have been contacted for a statement.

The A483 in Powys has been closed in both directions after a crash. Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed that the A483 near Newtown has been closed by officers after a collision. Traffic between Newtown and Abermule is at a standstill this afternoon and Dyfed-Powys Police have advised drivers to avoid the area. In its latest update it said: 'A483 both ways closed, slow traffic due to accident from the B4386 (Abermule Turn Off, Abermule) to A4811 Pool Road (Newtown). Affecting traffic between Newtown and Welshpool.'

Lorry overturns in crash as air ambulance lands at scene
An air ambulance landed at the scene of a crash. The collision happened on the A525, near Bangor-on-Dee, in Wrexham. An update on the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: "The A525 in both directions blocked, heavy traffic due to accident from Hollybush Lane (Overton turn off) to the Halghton turn off." Police later said: "The A525 at Bangor on Dee has been closed due to an overturned lorry. The road is likely to be closed for some time whilst recovery is arranged. Please avoid the area and use alternative routes." The air ambulance later flew to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. The road remained closed on Monday evening.
