Major motorway closed after car breaks out in flames bringing traffic to a standstill & delays for thousands of drivers
A FIRE on the M4 has caused all the traffic on a stretch of the motorway to come to a standstill. Traffic monitoring site Inrix said: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to vehicle fire on M4 in both directions from J18 A46 (Bath / Tormarton) to J17 A350 (Chippenham)." 1 It's not the only motorway in the south-west which is experiencing problems. Drivers on the M5 are also experiencing problems due to a broken-down vehicle which has caused two lanes to be closed on the southbound carriageway. Traffic monitoring site, Inrix, reported shortly after 1pm: "Two lanes closed and slow traffic due to broken down vehicle on M5 southbound from J18 M49 to J19 A369 Martcombe Road (Portishead)." Motorists could face up to nearly 10 miles of tailbacks from the Almondsbury Interchange at Junction 16, back to the Gordano Interchange at Junction 19.

Somerset bus incident: Police deployed to Exmoor village
A large police operation has begun in response to an incident involving a bus in and Somerset Police said it had sent officers to the village of Wheddon Cross, near Minehead, Somerset. "We are responding to an incident involving a bus on the A396 Cutcombe Hill," the force said the other emergency services are also on the scene. Inrix says the incident is partially blocking Cutcombe Hill in both directions.

M5 and A38 traffic: Smoke from blaze causes long delays on roads
Plumes of grey smoke from a tyre fire caused long delays on a motorway during rush hour. The blaze resulted in queues in both directions of the M5 at junction 12 in Gloucestershire, with traffic being held briefly at 17:10 BST by emergency nearby A38 Bristol Road remains blocked in both directions, according to traffic monitoring website Inrix. Firefighters were called at 16:32 BST to tackle the blaze, which is believed to have started at Hiltmead Lane.

Part of A30 in Devon temporarily closes due to wildfire smoke
Smoke from a wildfire in a field forced the temporary closure of a main road near Okehampton in eastbound carriageway of the A30 was closed between the A382 junction at Whiddon Down to Woodleigh Junction at Cheriton Bishop, traffic website Inrix reported thick smoke from the blaze was drifting across the road, creating hazardous driving Highways said on X both carriageways had since been reopened and thanked drivers for their patience.

Car fire ignites moorland blaze on A30 in Cornwall
Fire crews are tackling a car fire which has partially spread to nearby moorland in blaze started on the A30 eastbound carriageway near Temple Tor on Bodmin Moor, said Cornwall Fire & Rescue and Cornwall Police are on the scene and have closed one lane of the eastbound carriageway, the service website Inrix reported traffic was building up in the area.
