‘Outstanding' UK car dealership to be BULLDOZED after 50 years of business under new plans

AN 'OUTSTANDING' car dealership is set to be bulldozed after serving customers for 50 years. The space is expected to be completely transformed into a huge two-story shop. 2 2 The former TDI Autos at 3-7 The Parade on the A127 is set to be demolished in the plans. Locals said the garage had been "outstanding" before sadly closing after 50 years. A new retail unit will be installed in the space, across a total of 538 square metres. However, the type of shop moving into the space has not yet been revealed. There will be a 'large commercial floor area', as well as a loading bay and a staff area - according to planning documents. An internal staircase will lead shoppers to a mezzanine area and more retail floorspace. According to planning documents drawn up by Spatial Design Architects, on behalf of the applicant GDI Developments LLP, the pre-application enquiry was submitted on November 2018. After the initial enquiry, pre-application meetings were held with Transport for London (TfL) and planning officers throughout 2024. Planning officers raised concerns about the site's location, saying it could cause 'noise and disturbance' on the already busy A127. Havering Council also put forward a 'comprehensive redevelopment' of the site, which would have seen the neighbouring 1-2 location being regenerated. All UK car dealerships will STOP selling 10,000s of iconic brand's used models impacted by lethal airbag flaw However, the planning statement says that this was not 'currently feasible' for the applicant. TfL raised concerns to ensure that the network was not "compromised" during the planned window for the closure. Spatial Design Architects said in its planning statement that all the concerns had been addressed and that the applicant has plans to ensure "minimal disruption" during construction. Havering Council is expected to make a decision on the application by September 2. Spatial Design Architects has been approached for comment by The Sun. The news comes as car dealerships close their doors across the country, as manufacturers battle rising production costs and international tariffs. With the rise in production costs, the price of buying a car has grown too - leading to declining sales. Marshall Motor Group confirmed that 138 of its stores will close across the UK, after Stallantis UK - the owner of Peugeot and Vauxhall - terminated its contract with the brand. Speaking to The Sun, a source said: 'Staff at all four branches have been told the exact same thing. 'There is a lot of purposefully confusing jargon being thrown around, but essentially they are not renewing the contracts with Stellantis. 'There are roughly 60 people at each location, so we're looking at dozens of jobs being put at risk. 'They didn't give staff any particular reason, it doesn't seem to make much sense to them.'

M4 brought to a standstill as drivers get out of their cars & cops launch response

THE M4 has been brought to a standstill as drivers get out of their cars and cops launch a response. National Highways said the M4 westbound between J15 Coate and J16 near Swindon was closed due to an incident being led by the Wiltshire Police. 2 2 Diversion routes were in operation. All closures have since been lifted following the incident, with delays clearing quickly, National Highways said. Meanwhile there are 45-minute delays on the M25 anti-clockwise in Kent due to an incident between J5 (A21/Chipstead) and J4. National Highways said on X: "Lane 1 (of 3) is closed following a lorry trailer fire." It added that recovery had almost reached the scene, and there's around seven miles of congestion. Chaos continues to unfold on the M25 as a broken down coach has closed 2 (of 4) lanes on the motorway, anti-clockwise between J6 (Godstone) and J5 (A21/Chipstead). Recovery is said to be on its way - but there are delays of up to 45 minutes on approach with five miles of congestion. is your go-to destination for the best celebrity news, real-life stories, jaw-dropping pictures and must-see video.

Fiat and Vauxhall maker expects £2bn loss after US tariffs hit production

Fiat and Vauxhall carmaker Stellantis is expecting losses to hit £2 billion for the first half of the year as Donald Trump's tariffs squeezed US deliveries and the company grapples with heavy charges. The Dutch business, which is one of the world's biggest automakers, told investors that shipments dropped in recent months partly due to tariff-related pauses in production. It reported a preliminary net loss of 2.3 billion euros (£2 billion) for the first half of 2025. This would mean it swinging to a significant loss after reporting a 5.6 billion euros (£4.9 billion) net profit the same time last year. It said it was expecting some 3.3 billion euros (£2.9 billion) worth of pre-tax net charges in relation to factors including a recent US law scrapping penalties for producing polluting cars, and the company's restructuring efforts. Donald Trump announced on imported vehicles, which has been in place since April" data-source=""> The early cost effects of Mr Trump's higher tariff rates on US imports was estimated to be 300,000 million euros (£260,000), including the impact of lost production. Stellantis halted production at plants in Canada and Mexico after the US president announced a 25% tariff on imported vehicles, which has been in place since April. The UK reached a deal with the US to reduce the levy on its car exports, but other countries remain in negotiations with officials. The firm has also been navigating an overhaul following the abrupt departure of former boss Carlos Tavares in December, and new boss Antonio Filosa appointed in May to oversee the group's turnaround. The carmaker, which also owns brands Jeep and Peugeot, revealed that shipments – meaning the volume of vehicles delivered to dealers and customers – declined over the latest period. In North America, shipments fell by about 109,000, or 25%, between April and June compared with the same period last year. This partly reflected the impact of reduced manufacturing and shipments of imported vehicles, driven by tariffs, it said. Totals sales also declined by a 10th year-on-year in the US, according to its preliminary figures.
