Wild moment Coles shopper confronts 'customer' spying on her: 'Leave me alone'

Daily Mail13-05-2025
A shopper shared footage of the moment she confronted a woman she claimed was an undercover Coles worker spying on her.
The woman had been doing her grocery shop when she claimed she noticed a woman in a red top following her around.
She pulled out her phone and filmed the woman who was seen carrying several items in her hand.
The woman stared at the shopper before briefly walking away.
She quickly returned and asked: 'So what's the reason you're making (a) video.'
'Well, you're surveilling me so I'm surveilling you too,' the shopper said.
The shopper shared the footage to TikTok along with the caption: 'Tailgated at Coles by this schmuck'.
The video has been viewed almost 400,000 times and attracted hundreds of comments with social media users agreeing the shopper was being surveilled.
'The girl in red is an undercover security guard of the store,' one said.
'She is looking at the woman who is filming the video to check if that woman is stealing from the store. Every store has surveillance like this, but people don't know.
'They just wander around with some products like (they're) shopping, (the) same as other people, to keep eyes on the thieves. I know because I use to do this job.'
'How do you know she was loss prevention officer?' another asked before the shopper replied: 'She told me.'
'I did it to make her leave me alone,' she said.
Others defended the woman, saying plenty of stores had undercover workers.
'It's not new. Loss prevention officers have been working at Coles and everywhere else for many, many years,' one wrote.
'They're allowed to. Private business. There are other supermarkets you can shop at,' another said.
A Coles spokesman told Daily Mail Australia 'plain-clothes security guards' were employed in 'some stores' to 'help keep our team and customers safe'.
A loss prevention officer is a type of security guard whose primary responsibility is to identify, deter, and investigate theft and other losses within a company.
They often work in retail environments, like shopping centres and large department stores, monitoring suspicious behaviour and potential theft.

Home and Away star reveals he was raped by two men when he was 18 - and his dad's savage reaction after telling him about the assault

Home and Away star Mat Stevenson has revealed he was raped by two men when he was 18-years-old. The 56-year-old, who played Adam Cameron on the soap from 1989 to 1994, spoke out about the horrifying ordeal in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald. He explained he had attended a business presentation about becoming a real estate agent when the assault occurred. After the event, he was offered a drink by his prospective mentor but immediately 'became dizzy'. 'This other bloke [then] came out of nowhere. I was paralysed, I was a strong young kid, I was a good sportsman, but I was paralysed,' Mat said. The men raped the actor who 'blacked out'. The following day Mat revealed he woke up and found himself in the same room but there was no one around. 'I was in a fair bit of pain, and I was late for work. I told my dad, I said, "I think I've just been raped", and he ignored it,' he revealed. Mat received a call the day after the tragic ordeal informing him he had landed a role on Neighbours. He eventually became a household name when he starred on Channel Seven soap Home and Away in the nineties, playing the role of Adam Cameron. But he shocked fans when he left the long-running soap after five years and 500 episodes. In 2019, Mat revealed the real reason he left acting was for love. 'After I left Home and Away, I travelled for three years and when I came back I was 27. I met a woman that I loved and we wanted a family,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'And with that comes responsibility so I sought out some secure work and that's the government role I have been working in ever since.' Mat has been investigating identity theft for the government since 2001. He and his wife share two two daughters, aged 24 and 21. During this TV career, the Victorian-born actor also had roles on Blue Heelers, MDA, City Homicide and Offspring. He still dabbles in acting, with Mat playing the character of Mike in a the 2021 drama film, A Small Punch In a Little Town. The film, directed by former Blue Heelers producer Luke Robson, is about a young man who coward punches an outsider visiting a small community. Australia sues Mercer Super over alleged failure to report member service breaches

Aug 14 (Reuters) - Australia's corporate regulator said on Thursday it had taken pension fund Mercer Super to court, alleging it failed to disclose investigations into major member service failures, including wrong insurance refunds to deceased members. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission said Mercer lacked adequate systems to comply with the reportable situations regime, which requires financial services licensees to promptly disclose ongoing investigations into significant breaches of their obligations. The alleged breaches occurred between October 2021 and September 2024. ASIC also claims Mercer understated the number of affected members in reports to the regulator. "We allege a pattern of longstanding and systemic failure by Mercer Super to comply with the law," said Sarah Court, the regulator's deputy chair. The case comes after the Federal Court fined Mercer A$11.3 million ($7.4 million) in August 2024 for making false claims about the environmental, social and governance credentials of its investments. Mercer Super did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. ($1 = 1.5267 Australian dollars)
